Rumors everywhere that Alabama is after our OCoord, Chip Long, to replace the guy who left for the NFL/Bills. Replacing both Coordinators in back to back years isn't a good thing.
Yeah while assistants come and go all the time at all programs. I think Saban has had a lot of OCoord...Major Applewhite, McElwain, Nussmeier, Kiffin, Sark, Daboll...so it's not that unusual. But both coordinators leaving after Kelly made a announcement at a Press Conference that the whole staff would be back...that's not usual.
Elijah Taylor a DT who didn't play this past season due to a LisFranc fracture in his foot, has left the football program. He was an Ohio kid from Moeller High. He redshirted as a freshman and saw limited action as a Soph. No reason for him leaving has emerged. As always is likely what he see's as his future playing time and development and his relationship with his coaches. Academics are always a possibility but he's made it through 2 1/2 years with no known academic issues so I sort of doubt it. Also unlike kids from the South or West Coast distance from home and weather aren't likely either. Good luck to him, I hope his year of rehabbing has been successful and he can play again when he's eligible.
Notre Dame <r>Time for some GOOD news. Coney and Tillery back for SR season!!! <E></E><br/> <br/> Dilly Dilly!!! <E></E></r>
the VAST majority of that Chip Long smoke is coming from ND boards. Locksley is the favorite among players and fans to take over the job at Alabama. Chip Long went to UNA and is from Birmingham, so you can't rule it out, but like I said, most of the smoke is coming out of South Bend not Tuscaloosa.
the DL who was giving up football decided to come back and play next year. Chip Long is out on the recruiting trail. Coney and Tillery decided to come back. Things are finishing just fine.
I think I've read that Holmes and McIntosh are still enrolled and there is always a chance they could be reinstated if they take care of things off the field. Stepherson needs to transfer. I don't know what's going on with Tiassum to tell you the truth. Bonner coming back is a good thing. I wonder why he changed his mind. No word yet on a new OL coach or the 4th D coach. If they want to get Petit-Frere they are going to have get an OL coach. It's important so it's not like we want just a name to throw out there, but who it is could make a difference.
Notre Dame <r>Jeez, what a roller-coaster ride the last 2 weeks have been for ND fans. <E></E> <E></E> <E></E> <E></E> <E></E></r>
I completely forgot about the Irish men playing Louisville last night. Another tough close loss, 2OT! Worse was that freshman DJ Harvey injured his knee, he'd been getting a lot of playing time and things were looking good for him..now this. Unrelated, Charlie Weis Jr. was named the youngest OCoord in FBS by Lane Kiffen at FAU. He's 24. I guess wearing those headphones on the sideline of ND games paid off.
Other sites are saying that Kelly and Denson are scouring the ranks for another RB for this class. There are some good uncommitted backs out there but most of them are not academically eligible for ND. Denson supposedly visiting a kid in Georgia who is a Ga.Tech verbal
Some good news, DJ Harvey does not have an injury to any of the ligaments in his knee, described as a bone bruise and he'll miss a month. This team is just snake bit this year with the injuries. A lot of young players are getting court time which can help a lot next year. But this year, while not lost, is going to be tough to finish and get an NCAA bid. It can be done, but some luck that didn't fall our way the last two games will need to start falling our way.
Irish Hockey returns to the rink this weekend. They play Wisc at Compton Family Ice Arena and then move to Chicago on Sunday afternoon to play Wisconsin again but this time at the United Center. I guess the Big10 is trying to make a statement as Stu said that Minn and Mich State are playing Hockey at Madison Square Garden this weekend as part of an annual event with Big10 Hockey and Basketball.
Irish Women staged their biggest come back ever vs the Lady Vols tonight. They were down 23 at one point, then they turned up the heat on defense and ended up forcing 28 turnovers from the Vols. Won by 14, down 23 to winning by 14 that's a huge turnaround. I really thought the Lady Vols time had come, they have more depth this year and a lot of talent on that squad. Irish are basically a 5 woman team, the 2 bench players are a true freshman and a Grad student who has been a great team member her whole career but she's always been a bench player. That's it. Also of note the Irish have won 7 out of the last 8 vs Tenn. but the all time record is 7-21, Pat Summit put more than a few beat downs of the Irish during her long and distinguished career.
Holy cow! The Irish came back and won that?? I turned it off after the 1st quarter because it looked to be a total snoozer.
Rumors are coming out that UNC DB coach Terry Joseph is the leading candidate to replace Elko as the safeties coach for the Irish. OL coach seems to be pointing towards the BC OL coach, Justin Frye. Joseph coached at both Neb and Texas A&M before moving to UNC.
