Boilermakers up to #5 in the AP Poll. 6 ACC teams in the top 25, with the Irish right on the edge. 3 B12 teams in the top 10.
I think most people don't know what to make of the SEC this year in hoops. Is it Kentucky and no one again? Are there several good teams? (this appears likely). There's some good ball being played in the conference, so I won't be surprised to see there being 4 or 5 teams in the top 25 come late Feb.
Tennessee won again last night. Not as highly ranked as Kentucky, but a bitter in state rival: Vanderbilt. Before anything is said, remember, Vandy is the school that after losing the first football game would say: "Just wait until Basketball". Tennessee is working out to be a second half team. Vandy had us down by 10 points at the end of the 1st half. Tennessee outscored Vandy by 18 in the second half to win by 8 pointe, 92-84. Last week we beat #17 ranked Kentucky and dropped one spot from 23rd to 24th. We'll probably drop by 10 spots by beating Vandy.
Speaking of Vandy, Bryce Drew will be bringing in 2 5 star players for next years squad. Vandy is on the rise.
Ohio State defeats Maryland here in Columbus 91-69 and are currently tied with Purdue at 5-0 in conference play. It is fun to watch the Buckeyes once again! Ohio State hit 17 treys, which is the most of any Ohio State has ever scored in a Big Ten game.
Lady Vols lost their 1st game of the season against Texas A & M last nght in single overtime. Lady Vols are now 15 - 1.
What is going on with Michigan State, they lost to Michigan at home by 10 points today. Izzo is probably asking the same question.
Tennessee men keep winning. Tennessee just beat a great aTm team. A&M had its complete team on the court for the 1st time since 9-Dec. Tennessee took an 8 point lead into the half and exploded in the 2nd half to win by 13. sooner or later Tennessee will get recognition. The is a 3 game winning streak in SEC play.
Irish lose a close game at the end to UNC. Surprised to see MSU lose back to back, and I don't think that they are dealing with injuries. I think it shows that there really aren't any Super teams this year. Parity is the name of the game. Glad to see Rick Barnes having success at Tennessee, his last few years at Texas were rough and he needed to go, but he was always a class act.
Happy for you Tom, and it's a good win, but this is not the same A&M team of 4 weeks ago. They are in total disarray, and have not played the same caliber of ball since before Christmas. I suspect they aren't going to even make the NIT this season and we'll have another new coach on the payroll next season...
Scott, been there.... done that... didn't like it and feel for you and your team. It appears that the Tennessee Lady Vols learned from the loss to aTm and went on to play well on the road against South Carolina. The Lady Vols took them to the wood shed outscoring them in every quarter to win by a score of 86 to 70.
Buckeyes defeated Rutgers on the road 68-46 this evening. Purdue and Ohio State now are tied at 6-0 in conference play. Our next game will be at Northwestern Wednesday evening.
Jan 18th the Lady Vols visit South Bend for a game with the Irish Women's team. It will be a very big game for both teams even though it is not a conference game. Irish Women will look to get a big win against a top 10 team after the embarrassing beat down that Louisville put on them last week. Lady Vols are seeking to add to their resume' with a top 10 win on the road. We are very thin, down to 7 scholarship players and 3 walk on players. We'll need to be very efficient to win against a team like Tenn, even at home. Looks like the B12 race got interesting with KU picking up a highly ranked player who the NCAA had put on hold for the fall semester and now has approved him to play. He's big man and they need big men. TCU who had a great start to the season has now lost 3 in a row, and are at the bottom of the league. Texas Tech is the surprise team of the conference. They are tied with W.VA who they just beat in Lubbock, KU and OU. Should be a great race. Texas is an up and down team right now. could be a bubble team in the NCAA's.
Yep, I got this game set to record on ESPN. Tennessee ranked at #6 with a record of 16-1 and Notre Dame at #5 at 16-2 should be a very good game.
West Virgina at several points last night looked like they were going to run away with the game, and they did lead for most of the game...but KU closed them out, first win by KU at West Virgina in quite awhile. I see that Duke also down most of the game to Miami, went on a 30-9 run and beat the Hurricanes at Miami. Everybody says Duke can score tons of points, but they have no defense right now. This AM on XM Sports they were talking about the SEC not really having any teams that you can say that's a Final Four type of team. Big 12 is loaded this year. I didn't see the Mich vs Maryland game but it came down to Maryland deciding not to guard the guy inbounding the ball with 3.1 secs left, he was able to make a perfect pass to a guy past half court who turned to drive and was fouled on the drive and sank 2 free throws for the win. Big 10 race is tight, tight, tight, just like the B12.
