Thanks that page is pretty interesting. I wonder why USC has not had many Black QB's. Are there not many black QB's in So. Cal HS sports? You might think well Black QB=dual threat ie...can run but not pass, while USC has for years been a more Pro Style Passing attack. It just seems strange, esp when you look at the number of Black QB's all over college football.
Oh there's plenty of them in SoCal, but they just wind up going to other schools. Typically, USC recruits (esp in modern times say.. the last 25 years) the best QB from Orange County which is usually Mater Dei's QB. Mater Dei's QB is white for as long as I can remember, we can ask JOCO to chime in here to predate me. They will get the kids like Cody Kessler from time to time. A kid from Central CA or an out of state kid like Mitch Mustain or John David Booty. By and large though when you look at it: Sam Darnold Matt Barkley Matt Leinart Carson Palmer are all Mater Dei guys, and that's a lot of USC history right there. They will also pull a QB out of southern Orange County like Rob Johnson or Mark Sanchez out of Mission Viejo.
Isn't Mater Dei's coach a big USC alum? BTW Montgomery Van Gorder will graduate and transfer to play for Bo Pellini at Youngstown State for his 5th year. Good luck to him. That had to be hard to see all that criticism directed at his Dad and still hang in there. So one less QB for the Spring competition!
I made a mistake. In an earlier post I suggested that there will be a 3-way battle at QB. I forgot about the freshman, Avery Davis. Make that a 4-way battle.
Terry, You misspelled asshole Yeah, he's a USC alumnus. I don't think it's any accident that Mater Dei has been a USC pipeline the entire time he's been there.
Irish mens' BB was on fire last night. They beat a decent NC State team without Colson and Matt Farrell, who went down in the 1st half with an ankle. Mike Brey breaks Digger Phelps' career wins record.
Congrats to Coach Brey! I'm still worried that this is going to be a very rough ACC season without Bonzie, but on the positive side it will give guys like DJ Harvey some playing time to grow and show what they can do.
I don't know where to put this question, but I know Krebs reads this topic so I'll put it here... Really? NJ is the only state in the Union now that you can't pump your own gas? I don't even know if there is a full service gas station left in the state of Texas. Used to be the norm, pull up and a guy would come out and you'd tell him fill'em up and he'd check your oil and tires and clean your windshield. That was a long time ago though.
That's right. We do not pump our own gas. We have special petroleum transfer agents who snarl at you in a foreign language. In fact, I was at an Exxon a few years ago and the guy put the nozzle in the tank, grabbed his prayer rug and laid it out in front of the pumps and started praying to Mecca.
We must obey the well thought laws of the state as they know best and not encumber religious beliefs no matter how dry the tank is....My question is who processes the credit card George.
Well the Irish Women got a win vs Ralph's Miami crew. They are so thin though, 7 scholarship players and 3 walkon's...they will still be a tournament team but they can't take any more injuries. Josh Adams declared for the NFL. Good luck to him, I think he gave all for the Irish and RB have a short shelf life so I don't blame him for making the move now. I don't think he's going to be a 1st day draft choice, but I hope he makes a team and has a good career. I think if our OL is good next year, then Dexter Williams, Tony Jones Jr. will take up the slack. Then if CJ Holmes is back along with Deion McIntosh and the freshman we should be just fine. I'm really hoping that Tillery and Coney do not declare, those guys going will impact the defense.
I'm getting a bad vibe by all this movement. Everybody seems to be heading for the exit. Adams is a mid round pick I would think and his tenure will be determined by two things he did very little of at ND.... blocking and receiving. I don't blame him for cashing in, if he does, but it is no guarantee. I use Knowshon Moreno as the yardstick. Averaged over 2000 yards rushing per season in high school here in Jersey, starred for Richt at Georgia as a runner and receiver and ended with the Broncos. Done in five years. Shaun Crawford was complaining on Twitter that you cannot believe the coaches and its not fair that they can leave without penalty but players cannot.
Adams played the last few games like someone who cared more about not getting hurt than someone who wanted to give max effort. Williams ran so much harder the couple of plays he was in on.
We're pretty deep at RB and I think we'll be fine with his departure to the NFL. I am mildly concerned about the amount of people we're turning over this off-season, but we are suppose to be loaded with young talent. I guess we'll see. It certainly doesn't hurt to have guys playing on Sunday coming back and talking with the players/recruits (when on campus). Really, I think this all stings a bit more because of Elko's departure out of nowhere. I think the players have a right to be pissed off.
Who? I think he was never going to play and figured that out from what I read. Nobody thinks it was anything other than a good thing for all parties. BTW Happy Birthday Lou!! 81 years young.
Irish Men beat Syracuse at the Dome today, pretty ugly game in the 1st half for the Irish, but they fought their way back and won at the buzzer pretty much. Gritty win. Irish women play Ga. Tech in Atlanta tomorrow. Irish Hockey beat Michigan in Ann Arbor on Friday night...maybe I should have bet a BAPP with Bobda now that we are conference brudders! They play again Sunday in South Bend. Sort of odd, most 2 game series are either home or away not half/half. I'm sure there is a travel reason here.
Mens BB's decisive win over NC State last week takes on new meaning after NC State upset Duke yesterday. Virginia beats North Carolina. Could there possibly be parity in the ACC?
