in 75 years of either listening to Bill Stern or Harry Wismer on the radio in the 40s right up to the present...this was greatest Army / Navy game I have listened to/seen!!
That's old school!! You go Jiffer!..this season I had to listen to about half the NU games on the radio...its actually kinda cool sometimes....especially when Minn rolls ya for 50 plus....
What a great, compelling game to watch. Snow..option football...Army's all white uniforms...no "look at me" theatrics by any player... game going down to the last play before it was decided...the utter jubilation shown by the Army team and cadets and the complete agony etched in the faces of the Navy players after the missed field goal. Incredible game.
I'm sorry that I missed it, but I may try to pick up a replay of the game. I hear they had an amazing Game Day for West Point. Then, the game was beyond that in terms of spectacle. I spent the day with Carson on another recruiting trip (yay free food) to Sewanee yesterday. I spent a lot of time talking to the staff. They have made it abundantly clear that they really want Carson. So now it's a matter of admissions and financial aid. The football program has said they will do all they can do get Carson in soooo we'll see. Still, it was killing me that no one had the game up anywhere. In this day and age of streaming everything, I couldn't find one stream of the game. Damn hippy kids
Doc T <t>I indeed viewed the game on my 50 incher..What I am saying is I never missed an Army Navy game in 75 years be it radio or TV...I think the first one featured Glenn Davis, Doc Blanchard, and Arnold Galiffa for the Army. Damn what a memory...I had WHAT for breakfast today?</t>
Joel, I remember well as a young teen following the Army teams of the late 50s with Pete Dawkins and Bob Anderson at HB and the Lonesome End, a guy named Carpenter. Related story. In 1960 or 61, my HS basketball team from South Jersey went to Annapolis to play the Navy Plebes. We walked through the fieldhouse to the gym. We saw two guys trotting around the fieldhouse track. I'll never forget it. One was Joe Bellino, HB, only 5'8" but with legs as big as tree trunks. The other was Greg Mather, TE, 6'5", which back then made him look to us like a giant. We were in awe of those two guys. An experience I've never forgotten.
I certainly missed an opportunity when these games were held in San Diego, because as I've grown older, one of my football bucket list items is to witness the March On of the Cadets and Midshipmen. The Long Gray Line is something I've always looked at with awe, because it is literally living history in the making right before you. (obviously, I root for Army in the game) One of my son's best friends is down to 2 schools, The Citadel and West Point. I never realized how important The Citadel is to Southern students who are 'in that group' of potential candidates. When asked which I'd choose, I told him I'd take West Point. I think he's waiting to see which one will invite him out for football. At the same time, I told Beau that it's his journey and he's got to choose where his heart is. Either way, it's a wonderful opportunity in front of him and I'm not sure he appreciates just how much is really laid out before him if he's up to the task.
Thoroughly enjoyed yesterday's game. Didn't see one player out there "mentally exhausted." What a great bunch of young people on and off the field. Never thought that the Navy kicker could make the crossbar from that far out in those conditions. Really felt for him when it missed but loved the way that Army once again gutted out a win.

Yup, Eugene is Danny Ruiz' cousin. Danny coaches football down at Mesa CC. Eugene is a West Point graduate who also attended Stanford Medical school. Let's not forget Paul Walski. Paul has now been a civilian for 2 years and owns some business called "Fed Ex Home Delivery Contracts." In the military, his last 3 jobs were: Deputy Director of Operations HQ Air Combat Command, Langley AF Base, VA. Vice Wing Commander 93 Air Ground Operations Wing, Moody AFB, GA Deputy Director, 9 AETF-A Kabul, Afghanistan He was a 3 year, All-WAC player who played at the Air Force Academy and then lost a bunch of weight so he could be an A-10 Warthog pilot for several years. From 1991 to 2003, he had a lot of missions under his belt. He's been more of a Commander type since 2003. Now he's a Civ and living in San Antonio.
