That may be the case Tim, I know from everything I've read Markese was 100% Irish and I don't think he suddenly decided that he wanted to play somewhere else. I wish him a lot of luck, seems like a good kid. From a practical standpoint he has had a problem with staying healthy in HS, but with our depth at RB and a year of S&C and not playing he probably would have gotten in great shape and 100% recovered from any lingering HS injuries. I'll be curious to see where he enrolls. As far as the Bowl LSU in the Citrus is a good game. LSU is a good team and we will have to play very well to beat them. They are not the same team that lost to Troy. I see the Irish Women lost 80-71 to UConn on the road. Never good to lose but UConn as always has a lot of talent and Geno is certainly the best coach in the womens game right now. I didn't see the game but we were leading after 3 qtrs and UConn just put on the jets and blew us away in the 4th Qtr. We have a good team and we should be a top 10 team all year. Irish Men played St. Francis of Brooklyn and beat them even with Mike Brey and Bonzie Colson getting ejected. Colson for a flagrant 2 foul swinging his elbows and then Brey followed after too strident a defense of Colson to the ref...ie he had to be restrained. Again I didn't see the game but the St. Francis coach declined to come to the post game press conference. So might have been some hard feelings.
Don't pay much attention to Hockey, but the Irish swept Big 10 rival Mich State at E.Lansing this weekend. We are currently on an 11 game winning streak and lead the Big10 Hockey League.
The inclusion of Alabama seems to throw water on those that are constantly harping about ND joining a conference. The question is "why?" 2 major conference champions are sitting home and a team that didn't even win their division is going. The only advantage is that a conference schedule gives you an excuse for a rather weak schedule (see Wisc.) Maybe we should lighten up a little. 10 of our opponents are going to bowl games.
Gip, 7 of Alabama's regular season opponents are going to bowls AND Alabama only lost one game to a top 10 team at their home. So the regular season record still means something. I repeat that Wisconsin's loss was a better loss than Alabama's and they probably had a better argument to be in than Alabama but I firmly believe that it should have been one of those 2 one loss teams. 8)
Everybody and their uncle go to a bowl game. And how many top 10 teams did you play? You’re in because we screwed the pooch at Iowa and I’m ok with that. Be glad we did. We played 3 top 10 teams and beat 2 of them. We played 3 teams that were top 4 when we played them. Our season is defined by one big loss. Maybe you can define yours with 2 big wins. Good luck.
Stu, you are right. Ohio State had 2 losses and Alabama had 1. You played a tough schedule and that may have had something to do with the loss to Iowa. Thank you for the good wishes. 8)
Inclusion of Alabama and Ohio State last season, confirmed that the 4 teams were taken on the totality of their record and that winning the Conf Champ doesn't trump all. That's what it should be, the 4 best teams, even though truthfully as we can see it's not an easy choice. I don't know why anybody wants autobids unless we go to 16 teams. Take the best teams. I like that the NBA has done away with division winners getting into the playoffs automatically, they take the best 8 records in each Confernce. I wish the NFL would do that as well, take the best 6 records in each Conference, if the AFC South doesn't get a team in, tough luck, do better. That's the good thing about the Big12, the 2 best teams ended up in the Championship game and it was guaranteed. Now granted you can do that with a 10 team conference and it'd be hard to do with a 16 team conference.
Terry, I don't think it's fair to compare winning a 12 team conference to the piddly 4 or 5 team pro divisions. I agree that "best teams" should trump conference champions...and that maybe 'Bama was the right choice. But twice in a row it's been shown to be best to lose your division and sit at home during conference championship week and let somebody else take care of your business. "I spit on your conference championship!" I realize that ND fans have always and will always sort of have that attitude...we all look at our own side of things...but to win the conference championship you gotta go through 10 conference games pretty much without a hiccup. Even Wiscy, with all the deserved criticism of the weaker West Division of the B1G, ended up playing 3 ranked teams in conference. ND plays a plenty tough schedule...but they should, given they don't have that final championship game to cross. Even if you don't think conference championships should count for much it still is a final game you gotta play against a guaranteed-to-be good team. But hey, we benefited from staying home last year (then fell flat on our face) and what goes around comes around. Kinda surprised at the lack of love USC has received from anybody...I guess their waxing by ND was their "Iowa" game.
Not related to anything athletic, but I saw this and just shook my head at the constant drum beating to remove all images/statues who somebody thinks is offensive. Now anybody who has been inside the Golden Dome has seen these beautiful murals knows how beautiful they are and should be preserved not taken down because a few people are easily offended and want to sanitize history.
I think a lot of people in our modern day society has lost the ability to tell others to go 'f8ck themselves.' I really think that talent would come in handy here.
I'm with Corey. I have zero tolerance for opposing opinions on the topic of statue. mural or religious artifact removal. Zero. Give these crybabies a permit to organize a rally and then wash them off the campus with high pressure fire hoses.
Corey, I think that ability is making a disturbing comeback. Why not just say "Thank you for your input, but we're not going to do that"? Then follow through with that. :?
There was a long thread on this over at NDNation and I was shocked at how many guys were right there with these kids...one poster said this.. I wonder how many figures in history can live up to today's Social Media Morality Police?
The Native Americans didn't just walk in the woods picking berries and talking to squirrels. The often waged war with other tribes and as a result of a victory they took prisoners who....wait for it.....became slaves. They were incredibly backward not having adopted the use of the wheel. Based on their slow cultural development, if Europeans hadn't arrived in America they'd still be as primitive as the natives in Borneo. I like to think he didn't sow the seeds for the slave trade, I like to think that he was responsible for the NBA. And as to these current day politically correct morons, hopefully someday someone will piss on their graves.
