Just think what a 16 team playoff would do for your injury list. Three physical games in succession against hard hitting top competition.... and that's before the NC Final. Only the deepest survive.... and those with awesome third stringers.
I truly believe that in a 16 team playoff teams would be a shell of their regular season selves. These aren't conditioned...seasoned NFL verterans out there. If Kerryon J doesn't go on Sat. Auburn is a vastly different team than the one that beat Bama and smoked Georgia.
And if a frog had wings he wouldn't bump his ass when he jumps. Injuries happen to every team. You overcome it or you go home. That's nothing new in football.
MCG, everyone has to deal with injuries. It's part of the game. I think 16 teams is too many. Eight captures the true contenders . 8)
My point is 4 is enough.... if you want high quality of play in the playoffs. That's 15 games for the two finalists....
I am 100% against an 8 team playoff if guaranteed bids for P5 champions come with it. Put the 8 best teams out there, and if some Power 5 Conference has a big upset in the Championship game, well too bad. Top 8 go, no exceptions. It's not the NFL, or the NBA where barely winning teams make the playoff.
The 8 team format allows for 3 wildcards. So your conference champ who gets upset in the title game still has a chance to get in. DI college football is the only place so corrupt, and so back asswards that they can't resolve their championship with a true playoff. 4 is just the start.
Corey any system that doesn't reward the top 8 teams is a no go in my opinion. NO LOW RANKED TEAMS WHO WIN CONF CHAMPS VIA UPSETS ARE WELCOME, SO NO GUARANTEED BIDS. EOS!
Terry I agree. Let's just go from 4 to 8. I think strength of schedule and records will take care of the rankings just like it does now.
RE: Wisconsin Let's wait to see how the B1G champ game works out Sat....I'm pretty sure you'll see an agitated and motivated UW team....especially after Kirkie Herbie fast forwarded already to the winner.
I agree AJ, Wisconsin has been told too many times this season that they are not worthy to be included in any recognition and all they have done is win every game thrown at them. I don't know if they have the horses to go all 4 quarters with Ohio St. but motivation won't be an issue. I get so tired of the media pundits and fans proclaiming oligarchy status because of past history...Let them play the game first and then give an opinion based on the head to head competition.
Ohio State has already shown the ability to screw the pooch...and Wiscy will be very motivated and come on...poor schedule ranking or not they are an extremely talented football team.
Well the problem with that theory Terry is.... what good is a conference then? If we just go by a media driven top 8, they'll stack the thing with half the SEC and half of them are pure grade horse ****...but the media loves them. If Alabama didn't want to get left out of the dance, it isn't like they didn't control their own destiny. I feel for them, but they did it to themselves. What next? We'll be passing out god damned spirit sticks and motivational posters... When did winning on the field become such a bad thing?
So Terry, are you saying you believe that there is likely to be a 4th team that is more deserving than a P5 champion? Sorry... i find that doubtful. Could it happen once in a blue moon? Sure, anything is possible but I find it hard to believe any of the league champions would not be "deserving"... This is not like the BCS having to take a crappy Big East champion. DECIDE IT ON THE FIELD, NOT IN A STINKING POLL! :x
You guys are just dead wrong, sure if we expanded to 16 teams then I'd be ok with auto bids, but auto bids are wrong for a 4 team playoff, it should be the best four teams. If we go to 8 team it should be the best 8 teams, not the best 7 and one 7-5 team that won a Conf Championship with an upset. Most of the time the Conference Champ is going to be in the top 8, so there is no need for auto bids, and if they aren't then they should be happy just being the Conf Champion.
