Not really There is literally no one who hates Rape State more than I do. At least not on these boards... what I found... funny, is that in all the Rape State mess we're seeing 2 people actually held accountable. The rapist and a coach who was only named when the media began to ask the question "So....you saw a grown man raping a child in the shower, and you did nothing about it?" The next thing you know, this guy is a f*cking canary blaming all the other coaches and saying they all knew. Personally, I think every member on that staff knew but I just can't prove it despite a mountain of evidence. SO I find it kind of funny that this guy is going to get shut out from the UT job without a single piece of substantive evidence against him. Where I find it MOST FUNNY/IRONIC/TERRIBLE is the UT fans here who are Roy Moore supporters who are jumping out against Schiano. There's way more people who have come out against Roy Moore and aren't people looking to escape justice. I also find it sad that the college football world just moved on from the Rape State situation. They even got their wins back. That program should have been given the death penalty.
Got to weigh in on the Schiano issue. The guy left PSU in 1995 as a 29 year old position coach. This was years prior to even the initial not widely known investigations into Sandyskys behavior and 7 years before the McQueary shower incident. That he was complicit in any cover- up is patently absurd and simple character assassination. I get that there are people that prefer another candidate, but to use this vehicle in this manner despicable. The guy is a fine coach with an excellent track record, I'd hate to lose him. I have no doubt he is as good or better than anyone Tenn is going to land......esp. now. Terrible, just terrible
Corey, I'm not sure who on here is for Roy Moore but it isn't me. Of course I wasn't for Roy Moore 5 yrs ago when he was the Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court. As far as I know you and I are the only citizens of Alabama on here so I just wanted to make sure that it is plain that that is not why I think Shiano is not the right hire. Probably the wrong forum for this.
I'm completely on board with everything BT said in his post. kp and Terry, looking at his 68-67 record at Rutgers doesn't tell the story of his success there. Look up the entire 11 years. I did. As Bobda said, when he took over the program, it was a wasteland. In his first 4 years his record was 12-34. In his last 7 years it was 56-33 (including a 4-8 record in his 10th season). He took the team to 6 bowl games in his last 7 seasons. I don't know what you think, but in my book, that's not mediocre coaching considering where the program was before he got there. I'm just trying to set the record straight regarding his performance as a college head coach. All that information doesn't matter in this instance, but it might be useful to another program looking for a head coach.
Sid, I hear you. So he won 7 or 8 games a year instead of 6 or 7. That wouldn't fly at Tennessee either. 8)
Just amazed how a self-serving double hearsay allegation made by a person of questionable credibility was transformed into "fact" in a twitter blizzard. I read Tom's article and was a little surprised that Sarah Huckabee cited a Washington Post article as proof of Schiano's alleged complicity. Did she miss her boss's tweets and speeches that the Washington Post is the bastion of #fakenews? Tenn can hire whoever they want but wish their fans had not resorted to character assasaination and libel via social media because they did not like their AD's candidate.
kp, my point is he took a dumpster fire program and completely turned it around. Rutgers is a far, far cry from a Tennessee or any other program like Alabama or Florida or Texas, etc., with a strong recruiting base and a years-long winning tradition. Again, my point is, if he can turn around a perennial loser like Rutgers, he should be able to succeed at an established program. Given the fallout from what's happened at TN, we may never find out. I'm sure Urban Meyer is glad to have him staying at OSU, at least for now.
I don't know what to think about the Schiano deal, obviously a lot of Tenn fans don't want him as their coach and made their feelings known. So everybody has to move on including Schiano. I wonder where the Vols turn next?
Agree with what Bob and Sid are saying... getting Rutgers to A bowl... Herculean task... getting them to repeated bowls? Yeah... the guy can coach. Give him superior resources and talent to work with... who knows what he might do.
I'm not sold on Shiano as a head coach at Tennessee but I am also not endorsing the character bushwhacking that he is apparently receiving.
KP, I was referring to UT fans here in Alabama that are big Roy Moore supporters. It's just as funny as can be to watch them flip flop on this issue. I think the bottom line is that UT believed anything less than Gruden, or Peterson was just not acceptable. They aren't getting Gruden, and again, I'd be shocked if they landed Peterson. I keep hearing that they want the Pirate but I just can't imagine the very country assed fan base of UT putting up with Leach and his long lectures on Blackbeard, conservative fiscal economic platforms that are non-existent these days right on down to his comments about the SEC being 'all hype.' Don't get me wrong, Leach would be a **** show that I'd tune into daily. He has a great DC that he could bring with him named Grinch. I just don't see it being a good working relationship. I mean, in the SEC the fans really do know football. They don't often know a whole lot about football outside the SEC but they really do know the game. They'll have to accept that Mike thinks they are full of **** blowhards and he couldn't care less what they think. Does that sound like it will play on Rocky Top? Here's a good article on 'The Bishop and the Pirate" https://www.seattletimes.com/sports...and-mike-leach-may-not-be-all-that-different/
Matt Luke named permanent head coach at Ole Miss. He was the interim HC. I think he will be a place holder to ride out sanctions, if they get any. :?
Yeah I would say that Matt Luke is the best they can do at this time, and who knows maybe he'll be a good choice. But clearly with sanctions on the horizon it will not be an attractive job for most candidates.
I'm more than a little surprised that Scott Frost didn't end up the Gators #1 choice, and I can't imagine that with his career on fire at this time that he will stay at UCF. They can't pay him what Power 5 teams can, and what he can accomplish career wise is limited. This all bodes well for him to return to Neb.
I think Tennessee is being extremely judgmental and premature in their decision with Schiano. He is a very good coach; very high energy and a good recruiter. He does especially well in Florida. When he was at Rutgers they had billboards of he and RU all over the Sunshine state. I cannot believe he had any knowledge of what went on with Sandusky and looked the other way.
Sour Grapes?....Whatever....you'd have been head over heels in full suck mode if they hired Frost. All Urban did at Utah was beat the MWC's at the time, and we saw how well he did when he got to the P5.
 I'm so proud of Tennessee fans. They have their own standards and sense of honor that the school must live up too. Now they need to bring in the Big Broom to clear out that front office who really thought that "winning at all costs" would sit well with their fan base. What school did they think they were running? Nevada Las Vegas? EVERYBODY in Happy Valley knew children were being molested and it was being covered up. Todd Jeffers knew about it and he hinted about his knowledge so many times right here going all the way back to Prodigy days. We corresponded via email for more than 20 years and he admitted this to me several times after the story became public. If the PSU radio broadcaster (Todd) knew about this, it's certain that the coaches knew it too. Well done Volunteer fans. Well done Tom and Cindy...
