It's not over! Lots of meaningful games left that impact the playoffs. Michigan goes to Madison to play the Badgers. This will no doubt be the Badgers toughest game of the season. If they lose here, they aren't out of the CFP but they are on the edge. TCU travels to Lubbock for Texas Tech. Most would expect TCU to win, and they probably will. I don't think enough could happen to get TCU back into the CFP discussion. But New Years 6 Bowl for sure is on the line. A Couple of Rivalry games out in the Pac12 UCLA vs USC. Bruins are having a disappointing season, Trojans have rebounded strong from the beating that the Irish administered. Could this be the end for Jim Mora? USC pretty much wraps the Pac12S with this game. CAL vs Stanford. The GAME. Stanford in the battle for the Pac12N with Wash State and Washington. They have the tie breaker with Washington, Washington State has the tie breaker with Stanford. Wazzu and UW play Thanksgiving Weekend. Wash vs Utah not really a rivalry game but Wash needs the win to stay up with Wash State and Stanford in the Pac12 N race. There are a lot of off weeks for SEC teams. Alabama plays Mercer Auburn plays La. Monroe Georgia plays Kentucky LSU plays Tenn without Butch Jones. Fla plays UAB is UAB bad enough to give Randy Shannon the win as the Interim? South Carolina plays Wofford Texas A&M goes to Ole Miss. Ole Miss has an interim coach and A&M has a coach maybe in his last few games, or maybe not. Win vs Ole Miss and then LSU and I'm guess Sumlin will be back in 2018. Miami plays Virginia at home in the Orange Bowl where in back to back weeks they have had big crowds and big wins. Will the crowds be back for UVA, is it possible they will have a let down or will they close out the home schedule in style? Clemson has an off week they play the Citadel. Ohio State entertains Illinois ...Buckeyes if they are to pick up a spot in the CFP will need to have a big win over the Illini, something like the MSU game. Penn State has the Huskers ....I wonder if Barkley who has been ordinary the last few weeks will find his groove vs the reeling Huskers in his last home start of his career. Texas goes to Morgantown for WVA...a game mose expect the Longhorns to lose. Herman hasn't named a starter at QB. Texas missing 2 starters in the DB and facing Will Grier one of the better passers in the Nation. Our offense has been terrible, if we are going to pull the upset the defense is going to have to have a great game and force turnovers and score. Irish face Navy on Senior Day in South Bend. Irish have to have some very unusual things to happen to climb back in the CFP, basically the roof has to cave in on everybody in front of them. Navy is a good squad not as good though as previous years, they have had multiple starters at QB and given up a lot of points in most of their games. But still they come to play and will wear you down if you don't jump on them early. No Thursday or Friday Night games in the pick'em contest this week.
RE: Heisman. It is going to be Baker Mayfield if the Sooners win out through the B12 Championship game. He's had a great season no doubt, and the RB's who were competing with him have all tailed off the last couple of weeks, both Josh Adams of ND and Saquon Barkley of PSU have not had good games. Bryce Love was injured for a few games and had a good game in beating Washington. He still has some time to catch Mayfield if he finishes with really great games vs CAL, ND, and if they make the Pac12 Champ game. But Mayfield will basically have to stumble to let Love catch him.
Surprisingly as of Tuesday they only had 800 tickets left for Saturdays noon time game against Virginia so that's huge for the team. Big possibility of a letdown after two emotional prime time wins and now that the cat is out of the bag they can't play the "nobody gives us enough credit" routine. It is Senior Day against Virginia but the Cavaliers have always played us tough and have a 6-6 record against us since we joined the ACC. Next weeks Friday game after Thanksgiving at Pitt in cool weather may be the ultimate trap game for us... The Michigan/Wisconsin game has my interest and always the Cal/Stanford game is a must watch event for the entertainment factor of the band.
Arkansas fired Jeff Long, the Ath Director today. I'm actually pretty shocked at this, he was the chairman of the CFP committee at one time. If the AD is gone, I would think that Bielema will get another year as by the time the new AD is hired and gets settled in to the office, it'll be really late to fire the football coach. Coaches are usually fired late in Nov or early Dec. But if you don't have an AD then who would do the search and who would make the final decision.
Bret will not be coaching Arkansas next year. Interim AD's have fired and hired coaches and I think that will happen in Arkansas. I wonder if they will go after Malzahn. Arkansas alum with deep roots in the state coaching highly sucessful high school programs and past assistant coach at Arkansas. He probably is a little put off at the heat he was getting at Auburn the past few seasons and might be inclined to returned home if the $$$ is right.
If Frost does not go back to Nebraska, I wonder if Bret Bielema would be a good fit for the Huskers? I know he flopped at Ark, but he was very successful at Wisconsin and his style of football being run heavy seems like a natural fit for the Huskers. Plus he looks like he's cornfed already!
I didn't think Alabama and Auburn played till next week, that they both had Bye games? http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/21436815/fan-shot-alabama-crimson-tide-auburn-tigers-better-spat
So I see that Brady Hoke will be wearing headphones this Saturday, his first game as the Vols HC. He was frequently criticised for not wearing headphones when he was the coach at Michigan. I wonder if he'll do what Bum Phillips did many years ago when Bud Adams insisted that he wear headphones on the sidelines....so he did, took awhile before somebody noticed that they weren't plugged in to anything!
sheet, that's not news in Alabama. That's a Wednesday. I really have a strong dislike for Auburn's fans as a whole. With Alabama, and I've said this before, they have the best and worst fans in America regardless of sport. Even by our standards though, and I guess that's what makes it newsworthy, is that the shooting is rare because it didn't take place after the game. At least this one wasn't fatal like the lady who shot up her friends after the Kick6 game. That one was Bama fan on Bama fan.
yeah that one should be justifiable. Temporary insanity due to extremely extenuating circumstances!
Outland Award SemiFinalist are name. Mike McGlinchy OT - Notre Dame Quenton Nelson OG - Notre Dame Orlando Brown OT - Oklahoma Chukwuma Okafor OT - Western Mich Ed Oliver - DT Houston Billy Price - C Ohio State Finalist will be named next week. Kind of OL heavy this year.
Last home game today for the Buckeyes vs Illinois. We have a large group of seniors and 5th-year players who will play their final game in the Horshoe. More notable players will be J.T. Barnett and Billy Price (center). Weather could be nasty with some heavy rain, so anything can happen even when you are favored by 41 points. GO Bucks!
Smash mouth game in Madison. After Peters went down, it looked like we lost our momentum. Hornibrook hit some tough passes to put Wisky ahead and then they just wore us down. Not looking forward to next week's visit from the Buckeyes with Okorn at QB.
