Supposedly hammering out the details. What has been posted is 6 years, abundant money for assistant coaches and bonuses for championships and such.

    I am estatic.

And MCG read my last post on the other topic and conform on this one or face the consequences.

Cool beans. I hope you're a fan of running the ball because you're going to run it as often as Spurrier threw it :D

I would bet that Bill won't care as long as the ball is getting into the end zone a high percentage of the time... I know I wouldn't care the method as long as the end result is success.

May have a good shot now of keeping what was a great recuiting class together. Don't know how long he wants to stay in CFB but it's good timing for now.

I am happy with whatever system scores enough points to win games and championships.

Official announcement is not until later in the week.

Agreed. Kelly is a big time lover of speed. I'll still be interested to see what they do defensively, especially in the SEC. All those folks who said Oregon's offense could never work in the SEC are about to find out how wrong they were.

MCG, my bet is that he won't be all that anxious to go back to the NFL.

Thanks Ralph and it looks like your Canes could well be headed to the playoffs. Good luck to you.

Corey, a great offense with a not so great defense was his problem in the PAC12. It will be his problem in the SEC too. You can't win it all in the SEC without a very, very good defense.

For the sake of college football maybe after his experiences he will improve upon his earlier weaknesses and add to the fun that is college ball.

Let's be honest he has a pretty good pedigree of exciting football and made it fun to watch. Now add the players that every school east of the Mississippi recruits with a nice portion going to Gainesville and it sounds like a winning combination. Now all he needs is a defensive coordinator that will hush the critics in his transition...

At the very least the Gators can only improve with the slightest upward swing on offense that has been missing for a while...

    Agree with kp.
I never had a problem with Oregon's offenses... and I think Manziel proved you can use that to win in the SEC.

The Gators are about to find out if the NFL taught Chip anything about what it takes to run a defense that can survive slug-fests in the trenches.

    Congrats Bill and Dave.
If nothing else, you've made the most interesting hire of the year.

I don't know why it is that some conferences just don't play good defense and that seems to be the case in the Pac 12.

What I think is that Kelly will have better defenses at Florida and still run his offense.

That is what I am hoping and I believe will happen.

Still no news on the big networks but all the Gator sites are saying it is a done deal.

This is the main reason I would support hiring Chip Kelly:

    https://www.seccountry.com/florida/florida-top-10-class

Otherwise.... he carries such a risk/reward situation with him.

Jeremy Foley probably would never hire this guy with his NCAA baggage.... and I feel he is a temporary job hopper kind of guy based on his track record.

I would rather see a longer tenured Scott Frost or Dan Mullen with some program continuity at coach.

That's the challenge. Do you take a guy that is promising with no ties to your school, or do you go with a "legacy" guy, who will be loyal but is not a demonstrated head coach? :?

    Immediately promising is the key.

I believe if Kelly were not immediately available that Frost or Mullen would move up on the list.

I know UF hired Meyer before he finished an unbeaten season at Utah.... I wonder if we could do the same with Frost?

I would think that in the discussions with Chip Kelly the Fla AD would have talked with him about his plans for the coaching staff and specifically how he will address defense at UF should he take the job. If I were the AD I would want a strong commitment from him to pay attention to the Defense to support him in hiring a great DCoord and letting him run the defense.

Fla has had excellent defenses for awhile, that was Muschamps specialty. But they have just whiffed on the offense, specifically at QB. There is tons of talent in the state of Fla and there is no reason why the Gators shouldn't get their share of that talent. FSU is going to get some of it and now that Richt is at Miami they will start to dominate So.Fla like they used to do back in the day.

But again lots of talent, Gators should have a top 10 class every year. This year it's Miami at #3, FSU at #9 and the Gators at #10.

Regarding P12 defenses, they get a raw deal because there's a lot of great offenses out there. They seem to do okay most years OOC.

The year Chip Kelly took Oregon to the BCS title game, folks seem to forget that the game was 22-19 won on a last second FG. That was against the Cam Newton Auburn team that just destroyed many great defenses, including Alabama in a furious come back.

Since those years though, the RPO is now all over the SEC so it won't totally shock SEC teams to see it now. The big difference is the type of RPO that Kelly runs is based on speed, speed and more speed. He was always big on recruiting track guys and super fast WRs. The RBs in his offense are usually pretty physical.

On defense, he'd typically rely on great athletes. His DBs were always WRs who didn't make the cut at WR. Their defense used to give up yards, but they'd score points themselves. An INT for them turned into a track meet.

If this goes through, I'll be really excited for you guys. This should be fun.

In post-Tebow years UF has had Cam Newton, current NFL starter Jacoby Brissett and Will Grier on campus and because of odd circumstances etc. and an offensively braindead Muschamp the Gators haven't been able to take advantage of any of them.

There's obviously been some great Qb talent at Florida since Tebow.... but the Gators have been snakebit just the same at the position.

Seems there is some thought among talking heads that this will not happen.

I still think it will, but if it doesn't happen this week then I believe we are going to go a different direction.

Lots of Gator fans losing sleep right now.
