    Very, very sad. Was it sudden? He will forever be known among Purdue fans and others as the inventor of "basketball on grass", which enabled Drew Brees to become one of the best college and pro QBs of this era. R.I.P.

    Sorry to hear of his passing, he was a great coach. Brought the spread to the Midwest,. He was only 74, too young.

    Sad news. Remember traveling to West Lafayette when Brees rallied Purdue in the second half to beat Michigan, a pivotal game in Purdue's Rose Bowl season. He was an outstanding coach who fielded exciting teams at both Wyoming and Purdue. RIP.
