Wow...huge game for the Longhorns. They do not have to beat USC but they have to look competitive in losing the game. A loss like the Irish had to UGA would be just fine, a win of course would be nirvana! I have no idea who will start at QB for the Longhorns. The guru's on InsideTexas say that the Longhorns have to run the football, and run the clock as much as possible, no long FG attempts, go for it on 4th down in the redzone. Seeing what USC did to Stanford last weekend, I fear the only way to avoid a big loss is to forfeit and lose 1-0! :?
What do you think about your defense? For all the talk about their QB, it turns out that USC has a pretty damned good RB.
Our defense gave up 51 points to Maryland, 'nuff said. Which is why our offense has to run the clock, no hurry up. Malik Jefferson was maybe the best LB in his HS class, and he looked like he might continue that in college in his first game at Notre Dame. Since then not so much, he and Strong had some issues, and it was hoped the change in coaches would make him the AA everyone thought he would be by now. Still waiting.
Unbelievable 1st half from the Longhorn defense, offense kept giving USC the short field but defense really bowed up. Then they get the pick six against Darnold. 7-7 at the half. I didn't think the defense had it in them, long way to go though.
Posted too soon USC scores again with 5 seconds to go... another prevent defense failure. 14-7 SC how deflating.
Gut wrenching loss, but since I had little hope we would win and was hoping that we'd play well enough to not get blown out, maybe makes this a good loss if there is such a thing. I think we've found a Qb. And a defense. A couple of plays cost us.
I'm not sure why USC didn't just kick FGs against Texas. Cal did, and they started adding up against Ole Miss. This was a really good game and Texas played like the bunch of 5 stars from the Lone Star that they are suppose to be.
Very exciting game if you had no special interest in the outcome. I felt for certain Texas had won the game, but allowed USC to score on their next possession. Some tremendous hits by the defensive back on both teams. I agree with Terry, a gut-wrenching loss for the Longhorns.
Longhorns have the week off to get ready for Iowa State. I thought for sure that after that USC game that Sam Ehlinger would be the starter, but Herman said he was giving Shane Buchele the majority of the 1st team reps and if his arm is 100% he will be the starter. I don't really think there is a QB controversy though, since Sam is a true freshman he no doubt wants to play but probably is OK with Shane being the starter and waiting is turn which I think he'll get again. Shane is not exactly built to endure a lot of punishment. He was pretty beat up at the end of last season, Sam on the other hand is a much more solid physically player and will be ready when needed. Worst news is that pre-season AA Tackle, Connor Williams, is out for awhile with a knee injury. Will be having or has already had an arthroscopic procedure.
