I've seen some posts that suggest that Meyer should call those kids and tell them to shut up, or they'll lose their scholarships. Problem is IMHO kids today feel they are entitled to instagram, snapchat, tweet every thought they have. I could imagine that those kids wouldn't take it too well from Meyer and might even go back to twitter and complain how he was trying to stifle them and decide to take their talent elsewhere...which you might say good riddance but then sometimes stuff snowballs.
Terry, I have similar reservations. I am afraid we all will have to live with the consequences, whether we like it or not. Social media is here to stay and especially for the younger generation.
Don, Terry, on the other hand if OSU publicly thanked these recruits for their input and then pulled their scholarship offers it might go a long way toward team discipline in the future. If these kids are going to publicly criticize coaching decisions before they get on campus what are they going to do after they get on the team. :?
Kp, I hear you loud & clear, but there is still an element of risk in losing a highly rated recruit? Do you think Saban would do that if the situation were reversed?
Don, I'm not sure. I know the Alabama players and coaches are allowed very limited interviews and I don't do twitter or Instagram so I'm not sure how Saban handles that. He is a control freak. It just seems it would set a bad precedence for a guy to be publicly second guessing the coach before you are even on the team.
Yeah Saban is such a control freak, I can't imagine some of his recruits doing this and getting away with it. I think there is an element of discipline that is inherited with your recruitment by Alabama. He has very strict guidelines and rules. It's an interesting 'what if', but then again, I can't say he wouldn't walk away from those players either.
Well it seems like Meyer has done the right thing, I haven't seen any comment from him. Did any reporter even ask him about it in a press conference this week? Talk to the kids privately, encourage responsible use of the social media in regards to the program. If they respond in a smart-ass way start looking at other kids in their position.
