    OK, it is now Wednesday and we are still boohoo'ing about whatever technical college or kindergarten that the rest of the top 25 is playing... I'm sick of it.

    Its that time of the year when the real fun start. Ohio State Michigan is obviously this week, but let's not forget that Auburn-Alabama this weekend. I think the Tiger fans have this relatively annoying shirts that speak about owning Alabama in Tuscaloosa for the last two centuries or something to that effect.

    This is always one of those fun games in which you never know who the winner is. The media loves to obsess over games such as FSU/Florida, but for sheer number of national titles won and affected, you just can't beat this game for importance.

    I'm neither Tide nor Tiger, but this sure does look to be a whole lotta fun. So where the hell are you guys? KP, Des, AUKitty et all. Someone's gotta want to talk about this game

    I'm on travel for work in Emmitsburg Md. Internet access is limited. Who knows about this game. I do have suggestions about where the war chickens can put their thumbs! :wink:

    Well nothing heard from the Auburnites before the game but I bet I have to put up with their crap after it. I'm going to Montgomery and Panama City for Christmas and I will have to listen to it all from my wife's family. Once again Alabama made too many mistakes to beat a good team like Auburn. 5 turnovers? Well wait til next year. The only reason I would accept a bowl bid would be so the team can get that extra month of practice.

    For what it's worth...UF and FSU between them have played in the national title game a total of 6 times in the last 13 years.

    I believe Bama has played in one and Auburn should have played in one in that time.

    Think UF will be a 30 pt favorite over F$U after they lost 30-0 to Wake Forrest and just barely got by W.Michigan today? I don't think even crooked ACC refs can win this game for F$U.

    FSU was outgained by WMU 265-253.

    They have scored 38 points on offense vs. Va, Wake and WMU combined.

    If Fla loses this game it will be a black mark on the season to be sure.

    The refs would have to be far to blatant about it to affect this outcome I think.

    MCG,
    It's interesting that you picked 13 years. I think that Corey's point was that the history and impact of the Alabama/Auburn game goes back just a wee bit farther than 13 years.

    Just trying to be relevant KP.

    When was the last time Auburn played in the national title game or the equivalent?

    Actually I said 13 years but I need to go back 14 years to get Alabama in there. Man...does time fly...it's been 14 years since Bama smoked Miami for their last NC.

    Yeah it's been that long since our "last" one. There are a whole lot of teams that would love to be able to say that. 80 or 90 years since our first one, and a more than a few in between. When you look at it that way, 13 or 14 years is not that long. How long has it been since UF's "last" one?

    KP,

    I would say most relevant is this year followed by next year.

    After that...the last 14 years seems more relevant than what happened 30-35 years ago but maybe you feel differently.

    interesting fact

    <t>In the past 13 years.<br/>
    <br/>
    <br/>
    Auburn has finished unbeaten twice but has not had the chance to even play for a national title. Florida has never finished unbeaten and has received at least two swipes at the brass ring that I can remember off the top of my head.<br/>
    <br/>
    Maybe they should get some of that sweet press 'y'all' are getting down there in Hogtown.</t>

    IN 1994 Auburn finished 11-0 but could not play for a title and that is one year you are referring to. They did not even play for the SEC title because of probation. With those two chances for losses it's hard to count that.

    I did include their 13-0 season in my post however.

    but that was the point

    <t>you don't have to go unbeaten at Florida, even other SEC teams do. Doesn't that strike you as odd?</t>

    I was trying to be diplomatic. You know what, never mind. You're right. Please remove all doubt.

    Corey,

    In the years 1995 thru 1997 Florida State was a gaudy 32-4.

    The Noles lost once to Va. on a last second play and THREE times to Florida.

    The point of this is that in 1995 UF was 12-0 until being beatdown by Nebraska and in the NC year of 1996 UF went 12-1 with the lone loss to FSU by three in Tallahassee.

    Chances are almost 100% if Auburn or Alabama or any team you can think of in the modern era had played Nebraska in '95 and/or FSU in any of those three years that they could have said bye bye to an undefeated season. I'm sure you will summarily and stubbornly disagee with my statement as usual but hey...that's your opinion.

    Y'all played a great game and we didn't play better, we just made the most of our opportunities. Prothro playing makes it a different game. For those who don't know, Cox has a broken bone in his foot (according to my sources) and was 50% at best. They have been keeping it really quiet because we have NO backup QB. Will I take the win? OF COURSE! We don't get that many of them against the Tide and sloppy is better than nothing <E>:roll:</E> <br/>

    Congratualations to the Auburn fans on what I think is their longest streak ever against Alabama.

    Kp, do you think that Shula will be replaced?

    <t>It ties the longest AU winning streak. We have beaten them 5 times in a row once before when Shug was coaching.</t>
