This is kinda funny, in a sad way. That program is so dirty even Pigpen would say something to them, but what gets him to resign? Calls to an escort service? Didn't see that coming... Freeze resigns
I think there is a more innocent explanation for this--his calls to the escort service were not for his personal needs but for the service to provide suitable chaperones for recruits visiting Oxford 8) Plus, using a university cell phone? I thought Burner Phones 101 was a prereqrisite course these days.
The call isn't a violation of any NCAA rules. Firing him for that doesn't have any sanction ramifications.
I saw where they had a meeting and basically told him they were going to invoke some moral turpitude clause in his contract if he didn't resign. Also I guess digging into his phone records this isn't the only time he's called a morally suspect phone number, although nobody has actually come up with a real incident where he was at a hotel with an escort like the politician from NYC who got caught with 5K a night escorts. Also no incident like Mike Price got involved in when he was fired at Alabama.
Gipper, the call itself is not a violation. The problem is that the use of prostitutes is one of the allegations and Freeze has used his faith prominently in recruiting.
I briefly caught an article earlier today that said something to the effect that this won't be the end of this because turning over call records will also wind up to some sort of booster involvement. I'll have to go back and find the thing.
There were some Gator fans who wanted Freeze to be our next coach when Muschamp was fired. I am certainly glad that didn't come about and it was never really in play.
