Since crazy people like North Korean dictators don't care if you kill them 10 times over this kind of unheard of rhetoric coming from Tillerson and Pence seems to be inviting a nuclear holocaust: "The warning comes amid rising tension between the U.S. and North Korea over Pyongyang's nuclear weapons program and ballistic missile testing. Earlier this week, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said the U.S. is considering whether to restore North Korea to the list of state sponsors of terrorism. He said at a Wednesday press conference that the administration is "reviewing all the status of North Korea, both in terms of state sponsorship of terrorism as well as the other ways in which we can bring pressure on the regime in Pyongyang to re-engage with us." "But re-engage with us on a different footing than past talks have been held,” he said at a Wednesday press conference, according to Reuters. “We are evaluating all of those options.” Vice President Pence has also taken a harsh stance on North Korea, saying earlier this week that "an era of strategic patience" in the region is over. The vice president has warned North Korea not to test Trump or the U.S. military. He said the U.S. will seek peace under Trump but noted the "shield stands guard and the sword stands ready." "Those who would challenge our resolve or readiness should know, we will defeat any attack and meet any use of conventional or nuclear weapons with an overwhelming and effective American response," he said earlier this week aboard the USS Ronald Reagan.
The key words in this conversation is aboard the USS Ronald Reagan which best describes our old commander in chief Ronald Reagan. Trump may not be much to folks but he is unconventional and unpredictable as was Ronald Reagan. I personally am tired of paying dues to North Korea every time they want money, food etc....How many years has this been going on and how many secretary of States and defense secretaries have to do this, 5, 10, 20 ? I don't know tell me please.... Sorry as North Korea inches towards the atomic bomb the timeline of acceptance has grown shorter and the reality of dealing with this is no longer about prime time news segments but ending the problem. Yeah it's time we grow up and accept the fact that this may not be what we would really want but the cold hard reality of actions of a madman and how to deal with a rabid dog and the best way to put him down...
The leader of North Korea is crazy and vile enough to engage the U.S. in nuclear warfare and lose 10 million of his citizens. Last I looked similar losses in the U.S. would be pretty unacceptable to any of us. Therefore in a tit for tat confrontation as Pence alludes to we lose big time.
First of all, N. Korea has nukes? Bill Clinton told us he'd worked out a deal ad that they'd given up their Nuclear program!!! (Sort of like Assad duping Obama.) Second, they've yet to develop a serviceable ICBM. However, if we sit in the corner with our thumb up our ass like the last administration did, it's only a matter of time before they have that capability. We can stop them now or stick our heads back in the sand hoping that they bad man in the funny haircut will go away.
https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2017/04/north-korea-tests-missile-in-what-may-be-step-toward-mobile-icbm/ I think they already do test nuclear weapons and are very close to a quick method of launching them. Somehow I just don't think this crazy asshole in N. Korea really gives a **** if we threaten him or not. He probably doesn't care enough about his people or humanity in general.
Good question George. No easy answers. But I don't think this North Korean nutjob can be intimidated for the reasons I gave. You have to be in fear of being hurt or losing something or someone to be intimidated.
The elite in N. Korea have what most of their countrymen do not, ample food and electricity. The average citizen there has existed in multi-generational starvation. Today they are 3 in. shorter and many pounds lighter than their S. Korean counterparts. Yet, they apparently are indoctrinated to not question their leadership. However, if the spoils of the good life enjoyed by the haves there, were effected, there would be a serious question of his leadership. If sanctions with China's help can have some serious effects on the standard of living in Pyongyang they might be ready to get rid of that asshole.
