you'll be glad to know that after 2 years of your 'sweep the leg' coaching style, Carson qualified for the State Championship tournament in his first year as a full-time starter. The last 2 years, he had an older guy above him and the state only allows you to have 1 participant per weight class.
Good job Carson! Now... what is best in life?? <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Oo9buo9Mtos" frameborder="0"></iframe>
Corey, A little birdie broke this news to me last evening in another forum. Carson is in Birmingham, sweeping legs like Sherman once swept through Atlanta. That is quite an accomplishment in a short period of time. Congratulations to all. <iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/uRfeK7jtvq0" frameborder="0"></iframe>
Scott, LOL! KP, They are at the Von Braun center in Huntsville. George, I still haven't gotten him to watch that movie. (amazingly) He does come to me after every win and says 'tell George I swept the leg.' Gip, Terry, Sid et all. I feel that I should have earned a medal. At the Birmingham Crossplex, they were running 6 mats non-stop from 10am till 8pm. I was actually exhausted at the end of the first day alone. I can't imagine how hard that is on the kids. They get fired up to wrestle and then have to wait 6 hours for another match sitting in the bleachers.
Corey, interestingly enough, our local High school, Howell wrestles for the NJ state championship in about 45 mins. The team they meet is there only team who has beat Howell this year, by one point. Howell wrestled in. 32 team meet in Naples, Fl two weeks ago, finishing second to Miami Dade HS by 6 points. The third place team was more than 100 points back.
Damn, I would have liked to see that. Alabama is still evolving and growing into wrestling. This year, they finally split the individual and team tournaments. In the past, they just awarded the state title to the team who scored the most points at the state final. The 'duals championship' was a big hit this year. It'll grow more with increased coverage, which is hard to come by in these parts. Here is Carson's first round opponent at the State Tournament. He's the #1 seed. http://highschoolsports.al.com/news...y-webb-emerges-as-elite-heavyweight-wrestler/
Good luck to Carson. He knows what to do 8) Our hometown Howell team won the NJ state Group 5 tournament tonight over Hunterdon Central, 28-27. It was our 285 wrestler who made the difference down the stretch with a major decision. Maybe that's an omen for Carson.
Carson lost. He weighed in at 228. No one could believe he was wrestling heavyweight. The next lightest wriestler in the entire tournament was 270lbs. All in all, he's really happy with the showing. He feels like this year was a year to gain experience and boy did he.
Good lord that's some serious weight to be giving away! Glad he enjoyed it, and thinks it will help him.
Scott, You are correct. Carson found out that his freakish 'country boy strong' could only take him so far. He needs to get bigger and work on being more consistent with his feet. The super stud OL/Heavyweight that he wrestled in the first match literally just tossed Carson around and he's never had that done to him. Of course, the kid benches something like 450lbs and is a HS sophomore. Still, you gotta be prepared for the freaks as well if you're gonna compete at the next level. It's looking like he'll be attending a few camps this summer, if I can afford it. Valdosta State just invited him to their camp and there's a rather big camp at Birmingham Southern that he's been invited to as well.. That's on top of the mandatory camps that will be held in Decatur and at Clay-Chalkville.
