Does anybody even care this year? Lamar Jackson is a human highlight film but Houston and Kentucky pulled the plug on that in the last month. There are no other exciting candidates like there was last year. The RB from San Diego State is a heck of a player..but nobody knows who he is, D'Onta Foreman the RB from Texas is a stud, but he fumbled in critical situations in the loss to KU and also on Friday. McCaffrey, who's he? Watson? a forgotten man. Fournette, hardly played this year, preserving himself for the NFL. Peppers? doubtful even though he's a great player. JT Barnett, good solid year but not a Heisman year. I guess it's still Lamar Jackson.
Scott was pointing out earlier how nobody really had earned it this year. I'm kind of leaning toward Jabrill at this point.
Peppers is a very talented player but does not possess the character from what I witnessed Saturday at the Shoe. Kerry Combs, OSU coach might have saved his butt after he assaulted a fan as he was exiting the field. If he does win the Heisman, I will be terribly disappointed.
I don't know, after Reggie Bush and Johnny Manzel, does character matter at all? Lost all interest in this dog and pony show some time ago.
Don - I still hold out hope that character does matter. I had heard nothing negative about Jabrill. To be fair, I really haven't heard much talk about anybody except Lamar Jackson...
Well we have the finalists Lamar Jackson ...no shock here. Deshaun Watson....no shock either Jabrill Peppers ...great player no doubt, but not seeing him as a Heisman winner even though UM tried their best to play him everywhere to showcase what a great athlete he is Baker Mayfield. Sort of come back from the dead, after the loss to Houston and Ohio State. He did have a great year and he'll be back next year. DeDe Westbrook ...OU WR who had a great year and really came out of no where. Doubtful he wins though. I think it's between Watson and Jackson. I won't be shocked if Watson gets it, he's had a great career and while it's technically not a career award I can't imagine voters not considering that aspect with him. Jackson to me sort of faded down the stretch with the rest of his team. He had a terrible OL for sure, the should have been sued for non-support during the Houston loss.
Peppers defensive stats were pretty ordinary. Woodson was a more dominant defensive player. My guess is Watson will get the award
Sobering.... Former Heisman winner Rashaan Salaam found dead in a Boulder Colorado Park, he was 42. 1994 winner.
Another little shocker ...Christian McCaffrey is leaving for the NFL. After such a great year last year, he was high on the Heisman list to start the season but Stanford's slow start dropped him out of contention. Although when you look at his stats this season, he had a good year. He ran for 1600ys and his yds/carry was better than last year. He had a little more than 2000yds total offense again and this was with a new OL and Stanford problems at QB. I do wonder if he's physical enough for the NFL but he is clearly a talented kid. I'm waiting for his statement that he needs to leave for the NFL so he can help his family!
Interesting that the 2 best RBs aren't even wasting time with the bowl games and going straight to the NFL.
The ESPN 30 for 30 film ...Catholics vs Convicts will be after the Heisman show. It's been getting great reviews. Ah the good old days when the Irish were the story, not the Tide!!
The Catholics vs Convicts was great! I didn't know that Andre Browns catch wasn't a catch, would have been overturned on replay today, but then Cleveland Gary's fumble would have been reversed so it's sort of a wash. Congrats to Lamar Jackson, his speech was a hoot.
uh oh ....not a good start to his Heisman year for Lamar Jackson? Why couldn't he hang out with Tim Tebow? http://ftw.usatoday.com/2016/12/lamar-jackson-heisman-tropjhy-johnny-manziel-party-picture
