McSorely is pretty good. You just don't hear me talking about them because I simply refuse to acknowledge Penn State's right to field a team.
"lowly" #2 Oregon... just adds to my point. In the final the last two years we have had one #1, two #2s and one #4. I'm guessing that after this year we have another #1 in the final and quite possibly another #2. Expand it to 8 teams over the course of 10 years and I wonder how the numbers would stack up in favor of the top 4 seeds playing in the Final over seeds 5 throuh 8. College football and basketball are two vastly different sports obviously. And you can't throw in the NFL because there isn't a whole lot separating the heirarchy in the NFL and the parity that exists.... rarely is there an Alabama dominating everyone else.
Alabama's second string QB apparently is transferring. Cooper Bateman. I'm not sure but he may be the better qb.
Corey, Agree that PAC 12 schools traditionally scheduled tough non conference games but still think my point re Oklahoma stands--if they had scheduled three cupcakes rather than OSU and Houston, they would have made the playoffs as an undefeated conference champion. So even though the committee claims that they would punish schools for avoiding a challanging non conference slate, their decisions this year send the opposite message.
I agree with Bobda, undefeated power 5 team trumps. Even the Irish if undefeated will make it...unless of course there are 4 or 5 undefeated conference champions! kp...Barnett gone, Bateman now going. That leaves you thin at QB, I assume that those guys don't see much of a chance of playing beyond an injury to Jalen Hurts. I do think however that you have some studs at QB in the 2017 class, the kid from Hawaii is the #2 dual threat in Rivals and you have the # 8 Pro Style QB as well. So as long as Kiffin stays another year, you should be good!
Bobda...true...but OTOH Ohio State would be on the outside looking in had they scheduled three cupcakes in non-conference play. So I'd say there is a mixed message there.
Speaking of QB's, ND's Malik Zaire who is seeking a Grad Student transfer for next year and has an unconditional release from the Irish will be looking at Wisconsin and UNC. He had been interested in the Gators but apparently the Gators have run a foul of some SEC rule regarding Grad transfers and can not take another Grad Transfer right now.
Stu, Good point. TOK, Zaire would fit on well with Wisky's offense. With their road grading offensive line and stockpile of talented running backs, Zaire's ability to run and pass would make their offense pretty frightening.
Thing about Malik Zaire is nobody really knows how good he might be, we have 2 games to base anything on, the Bowl win vs LSU in Nashville where he showed some pizzazz and leadership and the opening win vs Texas where he looked like an AA QB. The next game vs UVA he struggled mightily before the injury. This year he really never got going, he looked terrible vs Texas and hardly played at all after that. I do wish him a lot of luck and I think I'd rather see him at Wisconsin than UNC since we have to play UNC next year.
Bobda, Agreed. At the same time, depending on the cupcake, you get picked off. FunBelt teams are getting more dangerous by the day. Still, your point stands. At the same time, scheduling Houston is a crap shoot in terms of quality.
Well now another Alabama qb is transferring. Sophomore David Cornwell is transferring too. I don't think we have another qb on scholarship. There is a walk-on but he has never taken a snap. I hope no one hurts Hurts!
If so you might find yourself in the same situation that Texas was in a few years ago when their starter Colt McCoy went down on the game's fifth play and the next guy up couldn't quite cut it. If you were playing Florida however you would still be ahead of the game at the Qb position...even with the waterboy behind center.
Wow...why are QB's leaving Alabama? I know QB is always the position most likely to transfer since most of the time you have the starter and the rest of the guys at best get mop up duty. But still...all the backups gone. As I mentioned earlier you do have two highly recruited guys coming in the 2017 class. But unless they are early enrollee's they are hardly likely to be ready for the season if Hurts gets Hurt! Any speculation on who Saban will look to for Kiffin's replacement? Sarkesian is on the staff, if he's sober that could be a good move.
Ha! If Colt McCoy hadn't gotten hurt, Texas would have won the NC and Mack Brown would still be their Head Coach! Seriously though, Alabama has had 3 qbs transfer in the last 2 months. I guess the freshman scared them off. :?
Well Texas was about as ill prepared for that injury as Bama might be if Hurts went down right now. If that happened and Bama lost the game or the next one that just wouldn't be fair to the legacy of this year's Bama team and it's greatness. It truly is a remarkable powerhouse team in all phases. Now the lack of a back-up Qb certainly could be a lethal weakness but only if Hurts goes down would anyone notice.
It is so hard to keep a good backup Qb in college football. They all want to transfer as soon as they figure out they aren't going to be the starter. Look at A&M they had 3 highly ranked QB's in Kenny Hill, Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray ...then they had none. Speaking of highly ranked QB's, I'm sure it's not lost on Lane Kiffin that his starting QB for next year at Houston if he goes there will be former 5 star QB Kyle Allen. I'll bet that was one of the chief factors in his decision.
