Most Gator fans are realistic enough to know that UF has not played it's way into the BCS title game and probably shouldn't be there. The Gators stumbled...and bumbled so much in the second half vs. Auburn that they let it come down to the Leak fumble and that was cutting it too close. Mind you if I felt UF was playing over their heads that night and would have been lucky to win I may feel differently about that turn of events but Florida played like crap in that second half and literally gave away their control of the BCS title shot by losing to an inferior Auburn team. So...the SEC title would be huge and very much appreciated and if it's the Sugar Bowl then that would be great...especially against Notre Dame.
I see that Jarvis Moss is out for the W.Carolina game for smoking weed, didn't the other guy get a longer suspension? Of course I see he's from Texas...which explains it all!! I'm also seeing that he failed the test 3 weeks ago...certainly leaves UF open to criticism that they let him play because of the importance of the games..then suspend him for a game they can't lose even if they play the 2nd string the whole game.
Assemble the appeal panel......and ask the panelist in the back to take off his Gator mascot head will ya!
The year that was, 2001 <t>you're saying UCLA was a bad team that year.

That year UCLA opened the season with a road win AT Alabama. Then they blasted Kansas and beat Ohio State.

The reason UCLA wound up in the Las Vegas Bowl is that they lost 4 straight in conference to Stanford, Washington State, Oregon and USC.

That Stanford team was Ty's last and went 9-3 losing to GTech.
That WSU team went 10-2 and beat Purdue in the Sun Bowl
That Oregon team went 11-1 and murdered, absolutely murdered Big12 Champ Colorado in the Fiesta Bowl
The USC team was only 6-6 in Pete Carrol's first year but it was the in town rivalry game and at the end of the season when USC won 4 of their last 5.

Maybe if UCLA would have stayed playing SEC teams, they would've gone to a better bowl?

Got any more points to prove?</t>
UCLA was a juggernaut that year all right. Yes..yes they were. You got me. The combined record of the teams UCLA did manage to beat that year was a smokin hot 35-44......wow...no wonder they beat OSU.  Please...no more...you're too good.
Tailback, the Gators had 7 possessions, gained 400 yards and got inside the S. Carolina 40 on all 7 possessions. We manage to shoot ourselves in the foot far to oftern, plus our defense while not allowing a lot points are giving up yardage and to much time of possession. On Jarvis Moss the suspended player, the rumor is testing positive, the University won't make an announcement. But no the other guy was not suspended longer for a first offense, he was suspended for the first game. The policy is 10% of the remaining season. Hence one game. I don't know what is unbelievable, other than Notre Dame, according to Notre Dame fans here, the Florida policy is in line with or tougher than some. If you're going to be suspended for a game, this is a good one to miss don[t you think?
I stand corrected. The penalty is much harsher than I thought. With 3 games remaining, the penalty should be 10% of 12 quarters, or only 1.2 quarters, or only 18 minutes. Instead, they've gone way beyond the policy. Poor kid. He oughta sue for discriminatory treatment. Geesh. Only one ND fan has offered a subjective observation, not facts. Tougher than some? Who are you kidding?
As I have stated before....half of the Notre Dame team of 1977 would have been suspended if they were drug tested for Mary Jane. It's not accepted these days and it is a punishable team offense but it's not like he was accepting ill-gotten money and gifts from a female team groupie....if you know what I mean...and I'm sure you do.
No I am not kidding Sid, and if you think that it's universal to drop a heavy punishment on a kid for his first offense then you are not looking very closely. And it is a full game suspension.
Bill's right, what ND does is not the norm in College Football. You can argue that maybe it should be, but it's not. Does the NCAA mandate some sort of drug testing policy or is it left up to the individual schools? I know ND has a policy, don't know what it is to tell you the truth. But if you (ND) guys remember that we had 2 OL's suspended for the Gator Bowl when Willingham was the coach. The story I heard was that one of them was at a party where a lot of MJ was being smoked but supposedly didn't smoke any himself. But when he found out that he was going to be tested, and they were going to take a hair sample he mistakenly assumed that his hair absorbed some MJ and he'd be busted. He got his buddy to submit a sample somehow and they were both caught. Both were suspended for the game and they didn't even smoke the wacky tabacky. Bill do you know what the policy is at UF, do you guy randomly test like 10 guys a week or something like that? I do think the NCAA mandates the whole team has to take drug tests before a bowl game don't they? Seems like in Spurriers last bowl game you guys lost some to drug tests. Terry
Despite my reaction to the news of the FL kid and my subsequent comments, I do not want to cause ill will with fellow Skyboxers, especially those whom I respect, which includes Bill and MCG (Yes, MCG, I'm being truthful). With this in mind I will cease my side of the conversation on the topic of the suspension. Terry, regarding your account of the ND incident, the kid who had it in his hair was denied a 5th year of eligibility, so in essence the incident ended his ND career. The other kid came back for his 5th year.
That's not a violation of any NCAA regulations. You're gonna have to turn the groupie who never went to an ND football game (although she had access to plenty of free tickets) into a booster. Somehow she was.
No Terry, I do not know the policy as to how many or who is selected to test. I do know that we test and that two people have been caught and dealt with. And by the way Marcus Thomas who was the first one is now off the team. There are conflicting stories as to why, but he is no longer a Gator player.
I stand by my original thoughts in this topic. Florida is good and could win the SEC but Michigan and OSU appear to be better. I'll gladly take an SEC Championship.....a Sugar Bowl win...and a #2 final ranking. That would be sweet indeed.
