It's just getting started.

Charlie Strong gone....Tom Herman in as the new savior of Longhorn Football.

A lot of teams will be letting coaches go soon and some already have. Strong was the only big firing but there are already a number of jobs out there like Purdue, Nevada, San Jose State, etc.

We'll see what goes on the next few weeks.

Brian Kelly has said he's coming back, we haven't heard from Jack Swarbrick and there is of course much unhappiness with Kelly amongst the fans.

The Student newspaper called for his firing, but Sid's old home town newspaper says he's entitled to another year to fix the mess.

    http://www.news-sentinel.com/sports/columns/Notre-Dame-s-Brian-Kelly-deserves-the-chance-to-fix-what-is-wrong

I'm numb myself, it has been 7 years and he made the decision to keep the DCoord instead of firing him and it cost us big time. Not saying we'd be a playoff team, but we darn sure wouldn't be a 4-8 team if he'd gotten a good college DCoord.

Also many are wondering what staff changes he's going to make this offseason. He absolutely needs to bring in a top DCoord and he also needs to make a commitment to Special Teams and hire a guy who is known for that skill.

I think 'numb' is a great description of the Kelly years Terry. We've had our ups, downs and mostly 'meh' seasons that just leave me with no real pulse for the heartbeat of the program.

I'll be interested to see if we lose our OC to UCLA. He's on their target list after firing Kennedy Pualamalo (sic).

To me, the Kelly tenure is starting to answer the question to me 'What would have happened if we gave Bob Davie more time?'

Speaking of Bob Davie, he's revived the New Mexico program. Did you see the whupping his team put on Wyoming this past weekend. Literally ran over them.

I did see that. He's done a fine job and honestly, he's a fine coach. I just don't think he was the right fit for ND. I am surprised he never took a shot, or received one, at a bigger program. I think he's better than half the bowl floaters in the SEC and at least 75% of the ACC.

He recently commented on his time at ND and said he'd do things differently now than he did back then. I hope so! :)

LOL yeah but that's a classic example of hiring the super young, super hot recruiter and making him the HC. That hire was on the ND Admins who should have known better.

Mark Helfrich out at Oregon, and for the 1st time in a long time they are not likely to promote from within.

Lincoln Riley, PJ Fleck are on deck for that job.

Read an interesting article that correlated the rise of Oregon to the decline of UW and USC. Now USC seems to be on the rise and UW is back big time. Impacts Oregon recruiting, since Oregon as a state has very little talent they recruit SoCal and depend on it.

Also while at one time their facilities were far and away the best in the Pac12 that has changed and while great, so are the other schools and their "cool' uniforms are matched by a lot of other schools who have gone away from wearing the same 'traditional' uniforms and adopted the special helmets/uniforms that Oregon pioneered.

Re: Davie. I'll never forgot what my son, who was on the team when Davie was DC, said upon his hiring. He said Davie tried too hard to be a friend to the players (which was the opposite of Lou Holtz' approach), and for that reason he won't make it. Perhaps over the years, he's changed and that's what he means by saying he'd do things differently.

They were just discussing the Oregon job on the radio. They were talking about how Oregon ran tempo and mentioned the uniforms etc, they also mentioned that everyone runs tempo now and has flashy uniforms. However, if you look at the teams who are in the hunt for the title, they all (sans Clemson) play defense and run a more traditional smash mouth brand of football. Ergo, Oregon should try to go along those lines although they do have Scott Frost on the staff as a potential hire within. I guess people forget that ole Scott knows a thing or two about smash mouth football.

He's also a favorite of the Oregon faithful and considered to be 'in the Kelly line.' He's only been at UCF for 1 year though. Still, comparing the 2 jobs is a no brainer.

I did get a giggle out of the top candidate being Chip Kelly. That would be interesting to be sure.

Doesn't he have an NCAA punishment to answer for if he returns to college?
Not everyone has flashy uniforms. That is one trend I really hope Alabama resists. :x

Interesting enough, that was kind of the point they were making. They were saying that the teams who are all in playoff contention (sans Clemson) aren't really tempo teams. They win with ball control offense and great defense.

Kevin Wilson out at IU. I'm a little surprised at this, he's had some competitive squads.

    Sid what are you hearing?

It must have happened within the last hour. I was outside blowing leaves. This is the first I've heard. I'm a bit surprised, only because this is the first season since 1990-91 that IU has gone to back-to-back bowl games.

Update. I've gone to local online sources. It's rumored that he will be replaced by Tom Allen the DC who created a defense this season where there was none in prior seasons. He's from New Castle, IN. He came to IU from a college team in Florida. I don't recall which one. We'll see how this pans out.

Update #2: "Lots of rumors" that he was fired for off-field issues. Again, we'll see what comes out that's fact and not rumor. I doubt this creates much of a ripple in the national picture. It's not like IU football is a destination program.

Tom Allen is the new IU coach with a 6-year contract. In one season as DC, he made IU's defense competitive with its B10 opponents.

It's probably a stretch, but I wonder if IU was concerned that ND would approach him for the DC job.

Re: Wilson. In 2015 he received a 6-year contract, but IU is paying him severance of only one year's base salary ($547,000). The consensus among those reporting is that the reason is something that happened off the field.
