Bottom-of-screen crawler during LSU-A&M game says LSU is close to a deal with Herman. It also says that Texas' president's preference if Herman isn't available is to keep Strong for a 4th season. Interesting. Terry? Thoughts?
This article sheds a little bit on light on the LSU & Texas situations: http://www.cbssports.com/college-fo...-may-not-fire-coach-charlie-strong-after-all/
Well obviously I have no idea what is really going on, but I can tell you that Texas fans are very upset about the possibility of Strong returning for another season.
I don't imagine that Strong survives and it is probably to the point that recruiting will be affected. However Charlie is a quality person and was a very good coach at Louisville and I think he can be successful somewhere. For sure he wouldn't have any problem finding a good paying assistant job. I will never understand though how his defense could have been so bad.
Seems LSU has made an offer to Herman but he may be angling for the Texas offer. https://landryfootball.com/16517-2/
Is Texas willing to get into a bidding situation with LSU for an up and coming coach? We've all heard about how deep the Texas pockets are but is this who they really want to go all out for?
Herman has strong Texas ties, why would he want to go to the SEC and especially LSU? Doesn't make sense to me??
  On the radio I heard that... 1. Herman asked for so much money that LSU backed away. They've decided to stick with Orgeron, who has made many promises, including his promise to hire Lil Kiffin as his OC... 2. Herman to Texas...
Kiffin and Orgeron have the history together so he might go to LSU if O is hired. I figured Kiffin would be taking a head coaching job somewhere soon. I wonder how long he would stay at LSU?
Why would Kiffin leave Saban, a proven winner to the Max for Eddie O a proven nut job to the Max. Even if somehow LSU was able to offer him significantly more than LSU it's not a good move IMHO. Now like kp, I think somebody is going to offer LK a HC job sometime in the near futurre. It won't be an elite job like Tenn or USC, but he'll get offered something if he wants it.
DA COACH O, INTERNASHUNAL MAN OF MYSTUREH! On a serious note, Coach O had some problems off the field back in the day, and there were very few people who stuck by him. Pete Carroll, Monty Kiffin and Lane Kiffin were among those few. Don't ever sell that bond short. Let's not forget that Sark was brought in as a consultant at Alabama this year sort of the way Kiffin was brought in before he was hired. We'll see how this all shakes out. All I know is I hope it's O at LSU. I get to do more obnoxious DA COACHO posts. I also get to hear a countless number of interviews with him that go just like this: *mumble of words that make no sense* One team, One heartbeat *several paragraphs of cajun mumbling that you can't understand* HERE COME DA TIGUHS! And then he storms off in the distance, even when storming off isn't called for. Besides, let's face it.. no one understands the corn dogs the way that DA COACHO understands them. The one downside to this is that he may put a lock down on picking off players from Louisiana. He's a recruiting machine and this is literally his backyard. He actually does speak their language. From the dankest corner of the Quarter to the most coon ass Cajun backwood along the river's neck, he'll be right at home. I'll be interested to see how this goes.
Charlie Strong fired by Texas this morning, That opens the door for Tom Herman. Strong's buyout is 10.5 million for the remaining two years on his contract unless he accepts another job.
I'll be totally shocked if it's not Herman. Risky choice compared to the choice of a veteran like Mack Brown back in 1998, who had a great resume of success at multiple stops.
Yeah this is very similar to the hire of Charlie Strong, except that Strong was a bit more proven. I wonder how much rope they'll give Hermann?
For Texas fans this is a Home Run type of hire, they have been salivating over Tom Herman almost since he took the UofH job. I read an article that said he's going to own the state with his recruiting. That by having coached at so many places in the state, and at both the HS and College level that he's well tuned into where the great recruits are and that he's well liked by the coaches in the state. Interesting thing is that it's unlikely he'll be able to bring Major Applewhite to Austin as his OCoord because Major is entwined in an ugly lawsuit involving a womens track coach who is suing the University. Major had a "liason" with a student manager and was given a slap on the wrist while this lady was fired for the same thing. She's black, he's white and was part of the football program. That's the basis for her suit.
How much better recruiting can you get than top 10 classes every year (5-year average of #11)? What I've read is that Mack underachieved with those recruiting classes over his last three years, going 8-5 (bowl win), 9-4 (bowl win), 8-5 (bowl loss) and that he left the cupboard so bare that Strong wasn't able to be successful. Yet, Strong is leaving the cupboard full and taylor-made for a championship run after going 5-7 (no bowl), 5-7 (no bowl), 5-7 (no bowl). So, which is it? Is the team so stocked with talent that they are on the cusp of a Bama-type national run? Or is Herman going to come in and fix the recruiting problems they've had for six years? I've read good things about Herman, mostly from his time at OSU. The one ding that I've seen is that he's never been anywhere that shows if he is or is not a good recruiter. And there've been some questions about his defenses since he's an offensive guy. Based on his Houston team this year, it didn't appear execution against Navy (gave up 46), Tulsa (gave up 31), SMU (gave up 38 to 5-7 SMU), UCF (won by 7) and Memphis (gave up 48) would do much to silence those questions.
