All,

OK, we have new turf down (two weeks) and it has been raining constantly for the last two days. Field should be in good shape for Saturday!

Officials for the game are being screened carefully and none will be from Ohio or Michigan per local TV station.

Over 1100 press credentials have been issued (record) and press box is full.

Not a ticket to be had, other than from scalpers.

Ohio High School playoff games have been resschedule to accomodate players to watch the game.

Where else could something like this occur other than Columbus Ohio? :lol:

It's being done because there are so many clown out there that want to believe that their team never loses, it's always jobbed. Odds are there will still be at least one controversial call to satisfy the whiners.

According to an article in the Columbus Dispatch, there will be an unnamed number of Micigan Police Officers at the game to assure the safety of the team and Michigan fans.

Afraid for the safety of its students, the University of Michigan is sending police officers to Saturday’s football game with Ohio State and giving out a cell-phone number that its fans can use for police "support," officials said yesterday.

They also are advising Michigan students to: avoid High Street, carpool to the game in a vehicle that doesn’t have Michigan plates, keep the wraps on Michigan clothing until inside the stadium, stay in groups, stay low-key and don’t fight, even if harassed.

The e-mail, sent Monday by Michigan’s dean of students, alumni association president and student-body president, tells students to call 911 "if at any time you feel unsafe," but it notes that fans can call the University of Michigan police with nonemergency concerns.

OSU Assistant Police Chief Rick Amweg said his department is working with the Michigan officers to promote safety, but he said the quickest responses likely will be from Ohio-based units.

"So if they feel more comfortable talking with the University of Michigan law-enforcement officers, certainly they can use that number," but they should understand that could delay any police response, Amweg said.

No one would say how many Michigan officers will be working the game, but OSU spokesman Jim Lynch said it will be a very small number compared with the Ohio-based police.

Ohio State is not trying to keep people from High Street. To the contrary, Lynch said the university is looking forward to showing off the new South Campus Gateway retail and entertainment complex.

"I think they’ll be impressed, and I think it would be a great place to take your family or fans after the game or before the game," Lynch said. "We’re not telling anybody to avoid a certain area. We’re promoting that our fans will be the best fans around and will treat everybody with respect."

Faced with fan problems that have ranged from overzealous ribbing to full-blown rioting, Ohio State began a campaign this fall to encourage its fans to act with class and dignity. Athletics Director Gene Smith said in September that if the campaign couldn’t change the behavior of what he called the 1 percent of the troublemakers in the crowd, he hoped it would empower the other 99 percent of OSU fans to alert police quickly to any problems.

But Michigan fans who have been to the game in Columbus said they’ll be expecting the worst. Matt Stout, president of the University of Michigan Club of Central Ohio, said some Ohio State fans are out of control. One got in his mother’s face and shouted obscenities because she was wearing a navy-colored coat at a Michigan game. And his mother’s a Buckeyes fan.

"It’s unfortunate," said Stout, a Columbus resident. "I know the majority of Ohio State fans aren’t like that. … I think it goes back to when Woody Hayes preached the hatred of Michigan. It almost seems a lot of times like they hate Michigan more than they like Ohio State."

The 3:30 p.m. kickoff is just going to make matters worse, Stout said.

"It allows for 3 1 /2 more hours to get ‘lubricated’ " than noon games, and it will be dark when the game ends, he said.

Steve Grafton, president of the Michigan Alumni Association, said he took his wife and children to the game in 2004 and, for the first time at a sporting event, feared for their safety.

"What we’re trying to do is help students who have student tickets and are coming to the game," said Grafton, one of the three who signed the e-mail warning to Wolverines fans. He said that Michigan students may join their alumni tailgate free with a valid student ID. The e-mail originally was sent to students, but a slightly different copy has circulated saying it was to all season-ticket holders.

"We wouldn’t send it to season-ticket holders because it just kind of rubs in their face that they couldn’t get tickets," Grafton said.

Tressel, Carr not exactly buddies

Two years after "Bomb-Sniffing Dog Gate," relations between Jim Tressel and Lloyd Carr have returned to normal. Of course, for anyone who coaches Ohio State and Michigan, "normal" is defined as somewhere between cool and tepid.

As Tressel’s No. 1 Buckeyes and Carr’s No. 2 Wolverines prepare for their game Saturday in Ohio Stadium, it’s clear that the intensity of this rivalry affects the relationship between the coaches.

Certainly, there’s not the level of animosity that can exist between rival fans. But the extreme pressure on Tressel and Carr to win The Game has an effect. Their jobs are on the line, and coaches already are competitive by nature.

It’s just the natural order of things. Lions don’t lay down with lambs.

"I think we’ve always had an extremely professional relationship," Carr said of Tressel. "But I do think that the rivalry is so intense … sometimes you have closer friendships than others. I don’t think you’re going to see the Ohio State and Michigan coach going to parties together."

Former Michigan coach Bo Schembechler said of the two, "I don’t think they’re friends."

They don’t have to be, of course. Like Carr, Tressel described their relationship as professional, limited to meeting several times a year at Big Ten functions and shaking hands before and after their teams play.

During their pregame confab in 2004, Carr complained to Tressel about the Michigan contingent being stopped as they came into Ohio Stadium and having their bags subjected to a security search by bomb-sniffing dogs.

Former athletic director Andy Geiger said the search usually was done at the visiting team’s hotel, but the Wolverines were running late and had to be searched at the stadium.

Carr said he found the search, "extremely disrespectful at best," and "at worst, a violation of our individual rights."

He said he asked Tressel about it before the game.

"He said, ‘Well, I didn’t know anything about that,’ " Carr said. "If he told me that, I’d have to believe him."

Last year, Tressel said, "Obviously, we regret if there were any surprises a year ago. They certainly were not intended."

Carr shouldn’t worry about that this year. Ohio State officials said security procedures have been changed.

Tressel said he has great respect for every coach in the Big Ten, but he didn’t have many personal feelings about Carr.

"There might be a little bit more understanding on my part, knowing exactly what he’s living every day, because the expectations are tremendous, just like ours are," Tressel said. "So there might be a little bit more feeling from that standpoint, but no, we’re so busy we don’t have a whole bunch of time to feel."

John Cooper coached against three Michigan coaches in his 13 seasons with the Buckeyes: Schembechler, Gary Moeller and Carr.

"Obviously, being an intense competitor, you want beat them the day you play them, but after that you can be friends," Cooper said.

"Just because the guy coaches Notre Dame or Michigan, you don’t hate him. You want to beat his ears back, but you’ve got to be a good football coach to coach at Ohio State or Michigan, so you have great respect for someone in that capacity."

Schembechler coached under Woody Hayes at Ohio State before taking the Michigan job. From 1969 to 1978, the two met in what became known as "The Ten Years’ War."

During that time, Schembechler said their friendship "was dormant. It did not change, it was just dormant."

But in the ultimate proof that the rivalry’s hard feelings stopped at the sideline, Schembechler said once Hayes’ coaching career was over, Woody had no problem with helping his friend.

"Once he retired, we got together quite a bit and talked quite a bit," Schembechler said. "I used to have him talk to the Michigan team. He’d be up here on a speaking engagement and I’d say, ‘Come on over, talk to the team.’ And he did.’ "

One thing for sure, we love our football in Austin just as much as those guys in Columbus, but we don't need extra police for the A&M game. The only time we've had extra police for a game in Austin was the Ohio State game. The reputation of the Ohio State fans preceded them, but it turned out when the got to Austin they saw how good fans treat visitors and the extra police weren't needed!!

No...and I'm sick about it....the planets are completely f@#ked up and out of line....I've kicked myself all week and I just can't believe I'm not there.....the last meaningful game with the Stripeheads I did not attend was before I was born...it's a long story and I'll tell you Sunday... :wink:
