No surprise after loss to Kansas. http://www.cbssports.com/college-fo...-charlie-strong-announcement-possible-monday/
It's far from a shock, I think the AD and the Admin wanted Charlie to give them a reason to bring him back next year. He's well liked and appreciated for his effort and all that but losing to Kansas was the last straw. Next up is who will be the replacement. Tom Herman is the front runner of course.
I'll say this, if I am Coach Kelly at ND, I will pay Strong whatever he asks to become my defensive coordinator and assistant head coach.
Strong at DCoord? Nope, don't really want him. Speaking of Strong, there are reports that Texas players are very upset that Strong is going to be fired. Talk of a lot of players leaving the program if Strong is fired, talk of boycotting the TCU game. Which I doubt because I believe that Charlie is going to Coach the TCU and they will want to send him off with a win. Tom Herman still the name and now that Houston is out of the New Years Six bowl race for the Group of 5, and Houston will be going to some middle of the road bowl Herman will be free to move on with out ruffling too many feathers at UofH.
It's been a long time since he was a DCoord, and I doubt if his heart is in being a DCoord again. With 10M buyout he doesn't have to take a job next year anyway and I would be shocked if he wasn't a HC again somewhere in 2018, maybe even 2017 if enough jobs come open. Hell even Gerry Faust got a job right after being fired from ND and he actually had several options besides Akron.
Oh I understand and agree about the money situation. I think someone will offer him an HC position at some point in time. People seem to have forgotten that he was good at Louisville. I'm just not too sure Texas was ever really sold on him as their guy.. But my proposal was that, if Kelly wants to save his job, he needs a DC. He needs one of the best DCs and Strong was precisely that. I'd pull out the checkbook if it were my call. Kelly cannot miss on his next hire and status quo will no longer cut it, IMHO.
