It's over and it was one of the best opening weekends I can remember. It started on Thurs with that Stanford/KSU game. It was a great game and the Purple Wizzard showed why he's good, they gave Stanford hell all night and Stanford is a really good team. Tenn found out what some people knew, App State is a good football team that you better come ready to play. I listen to XM radio's college football and those guys all predicted that App State would be in the game in the 2nd half. They based on 1) App State a good football team 2) Tenn QB has not shown that he can be consistent passing the football. LSU/Wisc big success in Lambeau Field. Nobody including me gave Whisky a snowball's chance in hell. Les had Cam Cameron really working with his QB so he could have a passing offense. But apparently they left that guy home and while the pre-season predictions had LSU as a possible playoff team. Loaded with Talent. But unless Les figures out a passing game everybody will do what Wisc did, put 9 guys in the box to stop Fournette and dare them to pass. What I don't understand is LSU bascially gets the top players in Louisiana every year, are there never any good QB's in that state? I can't think of a single great LSU QB under Miles, can somebody name one for me? That's just nuts. Alabama served notice that they will not be denied another shot at a repeat. RS Freshman and True Freshman. I wonder who will be playing QB when they go to Ole Miss. BTW I hope Ole Miss finds a way to shore up their OL or if Kelly thought he was under fire in the 2nd half vs FSU it'll be worse vs Bama and it'll be all game long. Texas/ND ...already said enough about that one. FSU/Ole Miss...wow, for as impressive as Beuchele was or Jalen Hurts or some of the other first time starters at QB this weekend. The most impressive is Deondre Francois. I just hope he's not an idiot like Jameis Winston. Texas A*M vs UCLA....last year after the 1st weekend Josh Rosen was ready for the NFL. Looked good in spots and not good in spots and definitely not ready for the NFL ..yet. Trevor Knight good enough to win, but truthfully I'll have to see more of him before I give him a thumb up. he was 1-9 in the 4th Qtr. Big 10 powers Ohio State, Mich and Mich State all cruised to big wins. All looked good. Big 10 west teams Iowa, Wisc and Neb all looked good opening the season. Again on XM radio the guys were talking about the W. Mich coach and what a great job he was doing and that he might be the next Purdue coach. To me though the upset of the week was Houston over OU. This was supposed to be Big Game Bob's best team in years. Great RB's, Heisman candidate at QB, etc. UH just took'em apart. And now if they stay healthy have a legit shot at undefeated. They have a late Nov game with a very good Louisville team with a very dynamic dual threat QB. Already talk that while last year they danced around firing Les Miles at LSU, that this year unless he gets the Offense going, Tom Herman come on down! B12 Expansion...still a work in progress.
It was interesting to me to watch and see how it appeared that the underdogs that won last weekend seemed to be better coached and gameplanned than the favorites. LSU's offense didn't show up but Wisconsin seemed to be better prepared and the same for Houston over Oklahoma. Those weren't fluke wins.
I do not look for as many upsets in Week 2. Otherwise, I might manage to make a decent showing in the contest! Tulsa should provide a more difficult challenge for the Buckeyes. There will be a lot of footballs traveling in the air Saturday, unless the rain that is predicted, might dampen everyone's spirits.
Same thoughts here. And it applied in the TEnn-AppSt OT game and in UF's plodding win over UMass. Those two underdogs were prepared and seemed well coached.
KP, You and I are probably the only 2 without kids on the team following Joey Jones, but he's doing a good job there.
I didn't see the start of the USC/Alabama game but apparently their entrance was pretty stupid, and now it's banned. LOL...watching that video, what a bunch of goofs. http://www.insidesocal.com/usc/2016/09/07/usc-pre-game-entrance-banned/
Well we find out more about the Gators this week. Hopefully a good something. Heck of a first week with 7, I think, of the top 25 falling. Sitting here now watching the National Football League opening with the singing of the National anthem.
