Any of y'all still planning on Fort Myers in October? Haven't heard anything for a while. I'm planning on being there that weekend. (15th-16th)
It's ON! Nothing has really been planned yet. I'll be there the 14th to the 17th. Kesley is also going to make it. Im pretty sure gipper said he's in. I assume those who have no interest in slogging around Ralph's farm after hogs will play golf or just sit around and laugh at those who are outside.. Hopefully attendees will sound off here. I'm there to kill pigs so I'll probably be hoping to catch up with the group in the evenings...
I'll be there with the family, arriving 10/12 and coming back 10/17. We plan on spending one morning with Ralph so the kid can see a working farm and pick some fruit. Then, I'll be spending a couple mornings shooting things while the wife and kid comb the beach. The rest of the time will be lounged on the beach or hanging with 'Boxers.
Hmmm, don't really care for the local guy, may not visit.... Be there or be square...Did you guys figure out where you are staying at yet? I am considering staying in Ft. Myers to be closer if we decide to catch up in the evenings or crash at Stu's house after talking the exploits of the day's hog hunting....I'm joking Stu In all honesty I plan to take off a few days to goof off and I can make my lovely bride happy if we are based in the Ft. Myers area or vicinity.. I'm just excited to say hello to each of you guys and hope you have a wonderful visit in SW Florida...
Ralph, Kesley and I are staying on Sanibel Island. My wife will be in tow (not for the hog excursions) so if your wife is there... they could probably hang out while the boys are off playing with bang stix. I assume there will be a few evening gatherings of ALL the Skybox folks so we can catch up face to face. Looking forward to meeting you and the other guys who I've missed on other trips.
I would love to go but started a new job that doesn't have a lot of flexibility at the moment. I can't even hunt locally
I'm still planning on driving down to meet you guys. Not very mobile these days. Still can bend my elbow though.
I'm not going to make it either. Too much time taken off too close to this event. My 3800 mile bike ride is taking two weeks in September and we have the Moparfest event on October 7, 8, and 9.
Sorry you guys won't be there but that will give gipper more chances to work his elbow as we toast absent friends. 8)
So who's familiar enough with the Ft Myers area to suggest some meeting places for the Skybox crew????
I'm having a brain fart on what's best for everyone on the meeting places. Please correct me if I'm wrong in this...Scott you and Kesley are staying in Sanibel correct? Stu who is coming down that weekend is in Naples? And Gipper is driving down to visit (What days are you thinking gipper). Once you get on Sanibel your not going to want to leave, plus the toll for the bridge is $6.00. But we need to meet up somewhere and Ft.Myers is probably the best spot. What are you guys thinking about? There is a pretty cool restaurant called Iguana Mia that may work. There is also a sports bar called Bokampers in Estero (Just south of Ft.Myers) owned by an ex Dolphin player that may work for us sports fans, plus its next to a pretty nice mall if the ladies so desire. And there are a hundred more options if these don't work for you... http://www.bokampers.com/estero/ http://m.simon.com/aboutmall.aspx?id=1202 http://www.iguanamia.com
I'm planning on driving down Fri morning. Stu has offered to put me up. I'm bringing my sticks but would like to be a part of the safari. I'm not bringing any firearms so I probably might have to be a scorekeeper.
There's always Doc Ford's Sports Bar on Sanibel.... a pretty cool spot for a gathering. Downtown Ft. Myers at the marina waterfront area has some cool places to choose from too.
Scott, I'm actually going up to Annapolis for business that week and won't be returning till the 14th. Sounds like fun but I'll have to just enjoy the reports.
Trying to rack my brain...most of my hangouts are a little south of Ralph and where you guys will be on Sanibel...I'm more familiar with the Fort Myers Beach and Bonita Springs area. There's a place on San Carlos Island (just before you get to the main bridge to Fort Myers Beach) with a couple of good restaurants (same owner for both). One is Parrot Key (we really like it there) and the other is Bootleggers Waterfront BBQ (with 40 TV's they are promoting themselves as the place to watch football. http://www.saltysamsmarina.com/home I have some great restaurants but they are closer to where Gip and I are located and would be more of a drive for y'all. My favorites are Coconut Jack's (Bonita Beach), Charlies Seafood Grill (right across the street from my place...y'all could come over for a drink then we could go to dinner) or Matanza's Inn located under the bridge on Fort Myers Beach. But I don't want you guys to have to do all the driving. There is a great cigar bar in Naples; also it is in the Mercato Mall with TONS of great restaurants right there. http://www.burnbyrockypatel.com/ There is a cigar bar farther north at Gulf Coast Center (closer to the rest of you) but I've never been there; http://www.worldfamouscigarbar.com/ Looking forward to seeing everybody. Gip, I've got a buddy (an attorney BTW) down there that wants to have us over to his course in Naples to hit the little round ball around...I sort of figured we'd do it during the hunting expeditions, but if you want to try to do both we can try to do a bit of scheduling once the guys figure out when they are going out to slay the pigs. I've been to the Doc Ford's in San Carlos...it's nice but I think my wife likes the food there better than I do. I've been to Iguana Mia in Bonita...wasn't all that impressed but maybe it was just a bad night. I'll go anywhere. I'm not very familiar with the downtown Fort Myers area.
Ralph and I are trying to come up with a sched that will work for everyone. We will prob hunt Sat and Sun so there should be an opp for Mike to play some golf and watch us scare pigs... I was thinking we'd hunt in the morning on Saturday and spend the afternoon/ evening watching ball and enjoying some face time and a cold one with the whole crew. Its wide open so any ideas are welcome.
Stu I was telling Scott that I'm up for anything that makes it easier for everyone visiting out of town. It's been 20 years since I've lived in Ft.Myers and I defer to you and others..Everything you listed sounds nice.
