Former Wazzu rowers Lisa Roman and Nicole Hare will be competing at the Olympics in rowing for the Canadian team.
Twenty Three former or current Longhorns will be in the Olympics. Dominated by track and swimming athletes...we do have one woman rower but after that picture of the WSU rowers I won't bother to post her photo...it's not a pretty picture. http://www.texassports.com/sports/2016/6/8/rio-2016.aspx
Haven't watched a lot of the coverage, but I did watch some swimming and gymnastics yesterday. 1. Apparently USA Gymnastics are very good, Simon Biles is a flier that's for sure. I never get how the judges figure out the scores, esp since they don't get to watch in super slow mo to see every flaw. 2. Also I guess Michael Phelps can still swim.
My brother was a swim coach at a high level for many years. He used to say that he didn't follow any sport where you had to rely on another person's opinion for your score (gymnastics, diving, etc.).
My guess is the TV ratings for women's beach volleyball for male viewers in Islamic countries increases when their country plays against an infidel nation.
That's a pretty popular view. I would further argue that those activities, while athletic, are not sports. Without an objective measure, how can it be?
The swimmer from IU backed up her pre race talk with a solid win over the Russian girl who had been banned for drug cheating. Wouldn't back down after the race either.
Pac12 athletes are dominating the Olympic. Of the Top 12 Universities who sent athletes to the games.. 1. Stanford 2. CAL 3. UCLA 4. USC 7. Oregon 11. Washington. Interesting to see that Princeton is on that list. That Stanford which has 36 Sports and 900 athletes enrolled and annually dominates the Directors Cup, is the leader is no surprise. http://fortune.com/2016/08/09/stanford-olympics-athletes-college/
Also, I'll give Phelps his due...he's the greates Olympic Swimmer ever and it's not even close. With the way that athletes are able to stay fit longer I wouldn't be shocked if he's at the 2020 Olympics. But that posing and struting in the pool last night was just him be a dick IMHO.
Swimming is a sport full of dicks.. We just happen to have the biggest and most talented dick of all-time. Le Clos is the one shadow boxing in front of Phelps in the Green Room. He kinda earned the mockery.
So Ryan Lochte has issued a sort of apology, yeah he said he was sorry for what happened...but he still said he had a gun pointed at him and he's not owning up to the whole kicking the bathroom door down and bascially being the one who caused the problem. http://www.cnn.com/2016/08/19/sport/us-swimmers-olympics-robbery-questions/index.html
Really a stupid thing he did and a reflection on the Olympics and the United States. He will not get any sympathy from me!
Has anyone ever listened to Lochte speak? He's not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed. I bet he's a lot of fun to hang out with, he's just not very good at this role model thing.
CONGRATULATIONS to Kyle Snyder, junior at The Ohio State University and on the wrestling team. I believe Kyle is the youngest individual at age 20, to win an Olympic Gold in freestyle wrestling. He has won just about any award that is out there, but this has to be his best effort to date.
