Now these are rankings that count: The top 50 public universities in the US as ranked by Money Magazine. 1.University of Michigan-Ann Arbor 2.University of California-Berkeley 3.University of Virginia-Main Campus 4.Texas A & M University-College Station 5.University of California-San Diego 6.University of Florida
Very good, where does the Univ of Texas rank? Where does UF rank in the USNWR, for all "national" universities?
Texas ranks #23 in best Public colleges On the USNWR for national universities (both public and private) UF ranks # 47 Tuition $6,313 enrollment 33,720 Miami ranks #51 Tuition $45,724 enrollment 11,273 Texas ranks #52 Tuition $9,830 enrollment 39,523 Notre Dame ranks #18 Tuition $47,929 enrollment 8,448 Out of state enrollment runs about $20,000 higher for the public universities, I'm not sure about the private schools.
UF is quite an educational bargain for in-state students. Just getting in the place is the tough part. After I went there they closed all those loopholes... lol.
It's really an exceptional bargain for in-state students and surprisingly hard to be accepted these days. The only option my son had to gain entrance was to go two years to a State College (Junior College) and then once completed it is automatic acceptance. If you are planning on going right out of high school the required GPA is all but impossible, at least from my Gene Pool. As my field is loaded with UF Grads (Ag business) the comments from them is they would have never been accepted in the 80's, 90's and early 2000. I take exception with their tuition cost mentioned as we paid more than that but not much more. Offspring has one more semester remaining at UF (12 credit hours) before he graduates. The original idea was for him to graduate last spring, then in summer A, then summer B, now he guaranteed us this December...I'm a little slow but I am starting to see a pattern here...And I'm sure it has nothing to do with the 21 year old girlfriend who still has two more years to go....Hmmmmm
Florida has an outstanding community college system. My nephew and niece took advantage of it for two years before seamlessly transferring to - ahem - FSU. Both are doing very well in their chosen fields.
Haha I second that. Going to a local community college also saves a lot of money and makes all the sense. The 4 year degree is still from UF.
REC, is that the joint Engineering program with Santa Fe your son is in? If so I had two grandsons in that program and it's great. They students actually get a Florida ID after the first semester and are eligible for a lot of stuff as a freshman. Both those grandsons were in the marching band their freshman year and are on track to graduate. Will you be going to any games this season?
I'm sorry Kes I was negligent in putting Wazzu up there, if you would not have given us a beat down in the last bowl game I might have mentioned it..
No Bill he attended South Florida State College, Santa Fe is in a class to its own when it comes to Florida State colleges. They are literally an outreach program for UF and I have met several students who attend both Santa Fe and UF. I know a majority of kids who bypass their local state college and attend Santa Fe because they offer so many classes tied in with UF as it is almost seemless, I can't say enough good about the college. Funny that you asked me if I will be attending any UF games this season, my son has been visiting this week before UF classes start on Monday and I asked him to work on getting us tickets to attend together as hopefully it will be his last hurrah as a student. My wife and I went with him and his girlfriend last season to watch the Vanderbilt game and roasted, good gosh it was hot. My wife said thanks but no thanks to walking and roasting in the stands ever again, I believe at one point on our way back to the vehicle she said just leave me here to die... But since her life insurance was not paid up I decided to wait on her... 8) If and when I go I will message you to possibly say hello to you..
Dave, Sid I agree that the community college or State college as they want to be called now are fantastic in the State and not given enough credit. We were able to enjoy our son for an additional two years at the house while he attended our local college and matured. It also gave him more time and less pressure to decide which major he wanted to pursue...To top it off his class size was 20-30 students compared to the 300-500 he would have encountered in the first two years at UF.
"My wife and I went with him and his girlfriend last season to watch the Vanderbilt game and roasted, good gosh it was hot." I was also at that game... and I agree it was absolutely brutally hot..... and so hard to watch anyway with Treon bumbling around back there.
Yeah, Treon didn't help passify the heat did he, it was a very, very long game without much in the way of offense...But a win is a win..Last game before that was Randy Shannon as the Canes coach and this QB who was built like a linebacker named Tebow.. Miami lost...
Ralph here is a suggestion on how to get your wife to a game and get back in her good gameday graces! http://und.cstvauctions.com/auctiondisplay.cfm?auctionnbr=101405
Ralph, the program that I am talking about is a UF program but in conjunction with Santa Fe. It is a way of admitting more students to UF. They are accepted into this program through UF and the move to UF is seamless. As long as they are making the right progress and take the course they need to take they are automatically in. Also at the end of the first semester they carry a UF ID with all the rights and privileges of a therein. It is a way of increasing the number of students that can get accepted to Florida. As I said two of my four grandchildren at UF got in through this program. The other two got in because they had the grades. One grandson is on a full ride through Air Force ROTC. My three kids who graduated from Florida all went the Community College route first. A financial decision on our part as well as they probably didn't have the grades to get straight in. We had three in college at the same time so it helped us a lot. You going to any games this year, either Miami or Florida?
Bill you have a lot to be very proud of Hopefully one or two in Gainesville and a couple in Miami, I really want to check out the revamped stadium in Miami and give support to Richt.... Newly named "Hard Rock Stadium" I just don't know which games they will be yet....
That actually sounds like it would be a lot of fun and with the parking pass included I may be able to talk her into it as she has family in Benton Harbor just up the road.....I'm not entirely sure that my Cane jersey would be welcomed though or if I'm even brave enough to wear it in South Bend..
