A program built on a pedophile empire. Someone needs to explain to me, real slow, why they deserve to have a football program. This is the greatest candidate for death penalty that I can think of, and I don't even want to hear anything about paying players compromising the integrity of the game. They are, rape state and deserved to be booed loudly and continuously wherever they take the field. And to think, we got soft and let them 'off the hook.' Disgusting.
This was the dark secret that Tod Jeffers always hinted at. He knew what was going on too. Everyone protected JoePa...even Tod who hated him.
I agree with you Corey..... what a disgusting empire it was. There is nothing about a Paterno legacy that isn't completely tarnished and trashed as it should be after all of this. Hard to believe he was such a demon... but apparently he was. But was is the key word.... I suspect anyone associated with the old empire has been purged out of the Penn State family and what you have left are people who were oblivious to the whole thing and completely innocent. I never believe in punishing the innocent just to make amends for past misdeeds by those long gone from a program.
I would agree that current Penn State players and coaches have no connection to the past transgressions and things should move on at this point. There has been a recent movement by former players to get Joe's Statue reinstalled in the stadium. That should never happen. Also I do think the NCAA was premature in releasing Penn State from it's original punishment. They should have stuck with the plan. But they did so at this point any new revelations pretty much have to be just that, no new punishments. I do wonder though what will be the repercussions for Tom Bradley and Greg Schiano who it is now being revealed that they knew about Sandusky and did nothing as well. They have of course refused to comment on the new allegations.
These are legal issues. What these men did was illegal and they should all be held accountable in court. I don't think the bumbling NCAA should be involved though.
I rarely say this, but I believe the NCAA should be involved. If this doesn't constitute an unfair competitive advantage, I don't know what does. This entire program was built on the backs of raped children. Penn State was nothing before JoePa, and they should return to nothing. I don't want to hear about the current players, because without the hiding of child rape, none of those players would have a mystique to buy into at Penn State. The hammer should be dropped on this program. I'm talking Wizard of Oz, drop the whole effing house right down on top of them, kinda penalty. There's nothing good or new about what's there now. These are the people who simply purged the old to protect the legacy. If you think I am kidding, please do see all of the movements to return JoePa's statue. We gave that son of a bitch his wins back. Why? The whole institution coughed up control to an emperor who let children be raped on his watch. He wasn't an amicable old coot who just didn't know any better. He believed he was the best head coach in college football. He had the best defensive coordinator, in his mind. (that was the pedobear) He did everything he could to protect the next win, literally, at all cost.
Corey, child sexual abuse is an emotional issue. What if it had been murder, or bank robbery? The NCAA just does not have the wherewithal to address these issues. They can't investigate them, they can't make intelligent decisions about simple infractions. I say leave it to the courts.
I see what you're saying, but what happens when the entire program is built on the backs of monsters? Involvement with law enforcement, in a negative way, is a sure fire way to get the NCAA looking under your sheets. Part of what Oklahoma was hammered for was the 'lawless nature' of the program under Barry Switzer. If Oklahoma was lawless for having players riding around shooting their guns out the top of T top Corvette's, what the hell describes the situation in Happy Valley? This certainly seems like a clear cut competitive advantage was gained.
On last note, since we seem destined for all things moving forward, I would like to see Penn State stripped of their past. I'm talking about taking away JoePa's wins, dating back to at least 1976. Additionally, all national and conference titles should be vacated. Some things can't be forgiven, some things need to be black marked in history. The JoePa empire is certainly one of them. If you don't start with them, there's no point in anyone having a major scandal anymore. We just let these programs do whatever they want, but dear God don't pay them... Fine.. but Joe Pa and his empire needs to go. I think that's fair.
