To be fair they traveled all the way to Fayetteville and pounded the crap out what at this point might be the best SEC team, certainly no worse than the 2nd best SEC team. They might not do that now, as Ark is a better team. But that just makes it a better win to the computers. I can certainly see them as the best 1 loss team, they beat a much tougher opponent easily at home where as UF struggled and needed some luck to win against an unranked opponent. Edge USC. I see you are now going to be a ND fan in a couple of weeks, eh!
Why so surprised? USC pasted previously #21 Oregon 35-10 while Florida barely squeaked by a mediocre and unrated South Carolina team thanks to #94's blocked extra point and field goal. Plus, early in the season USC hammered the team that that currently is ranked #7 in the BCS poll and that Florida likely will play for the SEC championship. Who would you pick as #3 and why? Over the next three weeks, each of the top 8 teams in the BCS poll has a chance to move up or down with big game wins or losses. I hate USC but based on the season to date they deserve to be ranked #3.
The stat that jumps out at me is Rutgers having a higher computer ranking than Ohio State. Maybe the software was downloaded from Trenton...
Big 10 very weak this year despite really good UM/OSU teams. Big East up this year, maybe BE is the #1 conference!! BTW given what we have seen of the Texas defense since the Ohio State game, maybe really and truly that wasn't all that good a win for Ohio State, since then they really haven't had to play anybody good, Iowa was supposed to be good but they weren't...maybe this is the year Lloyd gets a piece of that sweatervest!! Terry
Of the six computer rankings that are used, Rutgers was 2nd by four of the six and 3rd in the other two. Apparently there are gearheads all over the land that think these kids can play......
USC has benefited from a cupcake schedule the past 3 years. Granted ..they were a very good team..but if they had been playing in the SEC or ACC.. they would of had 1 or 2 losses in each of those seasons. I dont care how many points they score against the likes of Wash.State..a 1 loss sec team definately should be ranked ahead of a 1 loss pac-10 team.
But for some reason i don't see this as the final line up. It's still going to take a lot for USC to run the gauntlet of CAL, ND, UCLA to finish. I think it's likely that if USC wins out they are in, if they don't and either Ark or Fla wins out they are in, for ND to get in I think Ark needs to lose to LSU and then beat Fla in the SEC championship game.
Oh Man! TSS82 has just fired a big-ass torpedo straight at the the PAC 10 Armada. This thread might be a fun spot for lurkers with a taste for unbridled mayhem and blood
Oh boy! <r>Well Bob, apparently the O'Connor clan is asleep on guard duty, otherwise the fireworks would have started already. <br/> <br/> I've got my popcorn, and a soda. Now I'm just waiting for the counterstrike.<br/> <br/> <E>8)</E></r>
You're talking about the same SC that went into Auburn and cleaned their clocks, gutted Arkansas this year and beat Va. Tech. a couple of years ago? You SEC guys are so full of yourselves.
TSS82 is FOS! Name the last SEC team to even be able to stay on the field with USC? It hasn't been during Pete Carolls tenure.
The only SEC team that I can even remember winning a game out here in recent years was Tennessee's last second victory over UCLA when they had Peyton Manning in a game that Tennessee Tom and I attended. Arkansas, Florida, Auburn, Alabama were all pounded flat as a cheese pizza by the locals the last time they were here. What else you got? Send it out here...
Florida has an all time winning percentage of .667 vs. the Big 10, .591 vs. the Pac-10 and only .555 vs. the SEC.
more fun with numbers <t>USC couldn't play in the SEC? well ok:<br/> <br/> 2006: AT Arkansas-USC 50 Arkansas 14-I know lots of people like to point that Mustain had become the starting QB but as we've seen, come crunch time, Arkansas has gone back to Dick at QB.<br/> 2005: AT USC- USC 70 Arkansas 17<br/> 2004: BCA Classic: USC 24 Virginia Tech 13 (later that year they mopped Oklahoma 55 to 19 for the NC)<br/> 2003: AT Auburn: USC 23 Auburn 0-I'm pretty sure Auburn didn't cross the 50 until late in the game. I'm not kidding.<br/> 2002: AT USC: USC 24 Auburn 17<br/> <br/> You're right. They wouldn't stand a chance. I kid of course, you see, because its obvious that you need a good press kit more than you do an offense or defense in the SEC and of all the teams in the Pac10, you don't want to mess with USC's press kit either.<br/> <br/> You guys do seem to share a lot of moral standards though. You should play them more often.</t>
oh <t>in case anyone wonders why Virginia Tech is relevant in the listing. That year, they were the ACC champ and beat Miami. A Miami team that pounded Florida that year in their bowl game. VTech did lose their bowl game to Auburn in the Sugar 16-13. So I included them to show that they are every bit as 'southern' and every bit as worthy as any SEC foe.</t>
That Pac-10 percentage is based on 11 games, but if that's relevant you might as well include Florida's percentages of .458 against the Big 12, .333 against the Atlantic 10 and .286 against Division IA Independents. USC is .625 against the SEC, BTW. Florida was .557 going into this season.
Bill, Not trying to pick a fight with you... I jsut reacted to TSS82's indignation that USC is ranked ahead of UF in the BCS. I think USC would beat Florida by a miinimum of 16 points in a matchup. I fear they will do the same thing to my Irish in two weeks. There is an undercurrent in some of the postings here that the SEC birthright is an assumption of superiority over other conferences. I just think some of us don't see it.
