In today's basketball it would be unheard of for a Nat'l Championship team to return intact. Horford, Noah and Brewer all 1st round NBA picks, and likely would have been 1st rounders if they had gone after the 1st N'tl Title. What's your take on Donavan leaving UF, he seemed to be experiencing diminishing returns after those 2 great years when conventional wisdom would have had him contending for N'tl Title and top 10's most of the time. Sort of like Calapari and Coach K. He's clearly a great coach, just look at OKC once he got his feet on the ground there.
Billy D took UF to 5 NCAA appearances in his last 6 years with the school.... going to three Elite 8s and one Final Four. All that was after the back to back titles of '06 and '07. Very few college coaches can claim even that in 5 of 6 years much less the titles. And that is while competing with Calipari and Ky. in the SEC East. Ky. is one of if not THE top brand name in college basketball with a long and storied tradition and Calipari's one and done embrace has combined that tradition with the best talent and it has paid off for the Cats. For my money.... '06-'07 in this century is certainly present day basketball.... and what those guys did is not likely to ever be duplicated.
