Gator Bill, I think you are on the right track, but assuming Ohio State and Michigan have a really close game, how far does the loser fall? It will be interesting to see how all this plays out. I just hope we are not one of the disappointed teams! Don
"I have nothing against Florida. I will admit that MCG's refusal to admit that they have ever been defeated gets annoying, but I have no malice toward them." Wow...where in the he** do you get that conclusion Corey? I have been present at many UF defeats where we indeed got beat. My most recent was in 2004 when I was at the LSU-Fla game and LSU drove for the winning points in the final 2 minutes to pull out a three point win. I was at the Sc-Fla game yesterday and if that kick goes through absolutely the Gamecocks deserved the win. Then of course there are the TV games like Bama last year where we got ours asses handed to us. Your comment is unfounded. I will say however that the Sugar Bowl defeat to Notre Dame was complete bullsh*t and never really happened in my book. There is no friggin way that ND legitmately dominated the second half vs. Florida like the scoreboard showed. I don't know what Holtz and Bettis were up to but they obviously cheated Florida out of a much deserved victory in that game and in my mind Florida is now 1-0 vs. the Irish.
ND would have never won that Sugar Bowl if the refs hadn't taken the game from the Gators. The line judge's cat was born in South Bend.
Anyone ... <t>Besides me looking forward to the LSU/Ark game soon? Both can play. Wonder where it is played this year?</t>
I didn't see very much of the So.Car./ UF game but guys over on the Inside Texas board were saying the refs screwed So.Car esp on one particular play were So.Car was called for movement on the OL. Nobody on that board could agree that any So.Car OL even flinched. What's your opinion? Did UF get the better of the officals calls in that game?
I saw that call, Terry...it was righteous...the SC guy flinched...it was huge...without it they are on the Fla. 7 yd. line for a chip-shot game winning FG.
Thanks Don, and I do think the loser of the OSU and Michigan game will be in the mix for the 2nd sport. However I would bet that whichever team wins would not want a rematch!
Terry, I was at the game and not in a positon to see the movement you talked about, but am watching the replay on tv right now and will see it in a few minutes. However I can tell you that the Gator linemen did not even head downfield after that play and were acting like they knew there was a penalty. Whatever, I'll take it as it was called.
There was definitely movement by the SCar o-lineman....the call was correct. The real gift to the Gators was the spot given on Leaks' run up the middle late on 3rd and 7....a proper spot and Urban and the boys are facing 4th down. Will those poor Gamecocks ever stop getting hosed by the officials....?
Hey Terry, if it's fourth down then we bring in Tebow, make the short yardage and run more time off the clock before scoring! :lolTGhe Terry, the replay I just watched did not have a replay for that play so I can't comment. But like I said our DL acted all along like it was movement and just stayed at the line of scrimmage.
It was a flinch clearly seen and was properly called. It wasn't even caused by in and out movement of "fake" blitz defenders. A strategy used by another team I know that seems designed soley to cause such penatlties. On the Leak spot I just watched the replay (still down in Jax) and the spot seemed close but accurate. Tebow on 4 inches to go was almost automatic anyway more than likely. Otherwise UF had yet another long return by Brandon James called back by a block in the back that was very ticky tack and only was close because the SC player saw he was getting blocked and turned his shoulders away from the blocker at the last second. That rule needs to be changed if it is not already in place. Otherwise, the refs did well and yes SC was penalized more but I don't think was a clear disparity of calls either way.
Bill <t>The AP is out with ND behind Arkansas. I know it doesn't matter, but in a sense, it does.

ND had 4 teams ranked ahead of them lose, and fails to move up 4 spots in a week in which they win (again) on the road and even with some style points this time.

We've been going thru this garbage all year. Granted the AP doesn't count for squat this year but that is a microcosm of what we've seen. Since we've lost its been all about ND sucking. No one mentions that ND turned the ball over all game long and several of the scores were given to Michigan at the hands of our offense. That isn't making an excuse, our boys got their ass kicked. But it seems like rather than own up for a beating, its better to rationalize and marginalize what happened on the field....so you can concentrate on the press kit.

BTW-just so you dont think that I am picking on the SEC-I honestly think Wisconsin is getting screwed too. I honestly think they'd pound teams like Texas.

here's the now meaningless AP
1 Ohio St. (64) 11-0 1624 1
2 Michigan (1) 11-0 1561 2
3 Florida 9-1 1436 6
4 Southern Cal 8-1 1433 7
5 Arkansas 9-1 1331 11
6 Notre Dame 9-1 1302 9
7 Rutgers 9-0 1212 15
8 West Virginia 8-1 1075 10
9 LSU 8-2 1074 12
10 Louisville 8-1 1028 3
11 Texas 9-2 965 4
12 Wisconsin 10-1 930 16
13 Boise St. 10-0 805 14
14 Wake Forest 9-1 777 18
15 Auburn 9-2 751 5
16 Oklahoma 8-2 746 17
17 California 8-2 595 8
18 Georgia Tech 8-2 563 19
19 Virginia Tech 8-2 413 20
20 Boston College 8-2 350 22
21 Maryland 8-2 309 23
22 Tennessee 7-3 276 13
23 BYU 8-2 216 25
24 Nebraska 8-3 197 NR
25 Clemson 8-3 57 NR</t>
 This is ridiculous. Arkansas is the worst team we've ever seen out here. In both of the last two years, including this year, USC could have made the score anything they wanted to against those guys. How many points got tacked on the scoreboard anyway? Wasn't it something like 122 points in two games? Southern Cal tried to hold down the score both times and emptied the bench. They have walk-ons like McDonald who have never played against any other team but Arkansas, because they're at the end of the depth chart. If there's any justice in the world...and I've learned not to expect it in the BCS...This season should come down to a final four: winner of Ohio State-Michigan plays the winner of USC-Notre Dame. Those teams earned it on the field and all the rest looks like hype to me... .............JO'Co
Surely you jest about Wisconsin getting screwed. Have you looked at the Wisky schedule? 09/02 at BGU W 35-14 09/09 W Illinois W 34-10 09/16 SDSU W 14-0 09/23 at #6 Michigan L 27-13 09/30 at Indiana W 52-17 10/07 N'western W 41-9 10/14 Minnesota W 48-12 10/21 at Purdue W 24-3 10/28 Illinois W 30-24 11/04 Penn State W 13-3 11/11 at Iowa W 24-21 11/18 Buffalo 12:00 PM So far they have played 1 really good team and one average team (PSU)..that's it the rest of it is a collection of mediocre teams. It's not surprising that they are 10-1. They would not beat Texas Tech, OU, Neb, would have a hard time with Texas A&M, not beat KState. They are definitely not being screwed..any more than undefeated Boise State. Terry
Corey, I agree with the bias vs. ND. We are a lightning rod program. Always have been. What puts more emphasis on it in 2006 vs., say, 1993, is the prevalence of talking heads on TV, radio and the internet, hence the overabundance of opinions. It's a fact of life that I've learned to live with, which makes me much more attuned to what we do on the field each Saturday. As Coach Holtz says, all we need to be concerned about is being the best team in the stadium when the game is over. However, I am not surprised to see Arkansas move up as much as they did after watching their very convincing victory last night. What I don't understand is how Florida is #3, although I believe they should be ranked in the top 8. I actually thought #6 was a best-case scenario for us and am pleasantly surprised to see us there. Everything will shake out over the next few weeks. All we need to be concerned about is being the best team in the stadium the next two Saturdays.
While on that night in the Hills the Trogs surely made the Hogs squeal. They have steadily improved and they look to me to be as deserving of being in the top 10 as anybody else who has 1 loss. I don't think they are the same team that USC played in the opening game. Teams do improve over a season sometimes, they are one of them.
Easy, Terry. I know you are smarting. I don't know about Wisconsin, but the Texas team I watched last night is overrated at #11. And don't tell me about your injured QB. You scored 42 points. It's your defense which made KSU look like a top ten team.
After watching KState tear through Texas' defense like a hungry deer through a cornfield, I think it is safe to assume that Wisconsin would rip Texas into little itsy bitsy pieces if they met.
TOK, you've got to stay out of that medicine cabinet after a tough loss....I've seen that Wisky team 3 or 4 times this year and that's a good football team. I don't know anybody that wants to make a living taking on this Badger team right now.....surely there are not 11 teams in the country playing better football right now...
Good point, Sid. People talk about the Irish defense, but Texas doesn't just have two losses; that's the second time that their defense has been blown off the field...
