today Carson got his first direct camp invitation..... from Auburn. I thought for sure it would have been UTMartin or South Alabama or Jacksonville State but nope. It'll be great since there will be other smaller schools there as well. At the same time... Auburn... ugh ps Don't get me wrong, if he was lucky enough to have that chance I'd be all about some War Eagle. I just thought it was funny. Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be finding ways to try to pay for all this.
It's just a camp invitation, but then again, not everyone gets those either. These are basically "can't turn down" type of things, so I will make sure he's there. Carson's best friend, Josh, is getting these offers from just about everyone (except ND and Alabama, although I am sure Bama isn't far off). It's just crazy how the world has gone from 'catching the eye of the scout in the stands' to 'come here now.'
Also lost in the family pride is how totally insufferable Auburn fans are... I'm gonna have to let KP fill you guys in on that. It's pretty bad. I do know that Carson hit it off with Philip Lutzenkirchen's dad when he was on campus giving a speech about life advice and his foundation. (Lutzie 43) Maybe that was the connection..?? Either way, he's pretty excited.
Corey, that is exciting to get the invitation. The possibility of a college scholarship far outweighs the cost to your psyche of putting up with Auburn fans. Hopefully Alabama will invite him but I know that the real prize would be the Notre Dame invitation.
I'll be honest, if he's lucky enough to get an offer to go some place, I'll be their biggest fan. He's a weird kid. He'd go to Stanford just as quick as he'd go anywhere. I'm not sure his grades would merit that, but he'd go there. He's really just a babe in the woods opening his eyes for the first time. It's really fun to watch. He doesn't even see the forest through the trees, but every day presents something new and exciting for him that just opens his eyes a bit wider. Just the day before he was telling me how excited he was about Troy football. Then, he got the Auburn invite and it's got him all fired up. Still, as you know, good grief are those Auburn fans insufferable... The upside is that we could have pity party tailgates where we could drink enough (maybe) to be surrounded by tens of thousands of them.
Well at least the Auburn campus is easy to find. Take I-65 South to Montgomery, turn left and follow your nose.....sorry old joke.
Wow, that's great for him Corey! Even if it just gets him exposure for some other schools you gotta be pleased. I'm already feeling the sting of college and it's not pleasant... Pray for that scholly offer!
