One thing I'm learning about Charley and I guess it's a Joisey thing, that is if you ask you will get an opinion. While you can say it's refreshing and all, but the more he is "refreshingly honest" the more ammo he gives the media when they want to take a shot and the more ammo he gives his recruiting opponents. Just look what the media did with his comments on the Irish getting jumped by Tenn and Fla. If you watch the video of his press conference he's just responding to a question, and it was sort of a light hearted exchange. He didn't come to the presser to complain and I guarantee you if the reporter doesn't ask that question he doesn't talk about it. For a guy who was not allowed to talk to the Press, which as I understand it is pretty much the norm for NFL assistants and definitely for Belicheck and Parcells assistants, he sure is making up for lost time. It will be interesting if RU does run the table, to do so they will have beaten both WVA and Louisville who were deemed BCS worthy, so if you take those two down how are you not BCS worthy? We really need a playoff.
Don't forget this is just Charlie's 2nd year, still relatively new and like you stated he's been seen but not heard. Give him a little more time and he'll have a little more saavy with the media. He'll know better what to say and what not to say. As far as his comments about the polls, I don't recall the media jumping all over him, maybe something on the message boards, but nothing that I can recall in the media. I thought his comments about the Big East was right on. If you can't play for the championship as an undefeated team, why even bother playing your schedule. I agree about a playoff. That will happen someday.
I fail to see where his comments are anything but reasonable observations by a reasonable person. There is nothing attention-getting or out of line or politically incorrect in what he said.
Excellent product placement with the Super Bowl ring, though. I'm sure it wasn't lost on the high school athletes. 8)
