At the risk of being labeled an armchair QB, I think Uncle Rico's defensive scheme is too complex. Too much thought slows athletes down. Instinct gives way to indecision. There are too many great athletes on this team to be giving up 30-40 points per game.
Godfather, I give you a pass when it comes to expressing your knowledgeable opinions. I definitely don't consider you an armchair QB. Funny. I don't think of anyone on Skybox to be an armchair QB, probably because I've learned through our many, many conversations over the years that there's a lot of knowledge of the game among the members, and where ND is concrned a genuine interest in the success of the program. The folks I consider armchair QBs tend to be negative types who are more interested in displaying what they think they know than the success of their teams. They tend to engage in what I call second guessing after the fact and don't show much fundamental knowledge of the game. I don't know anyone here who is like that. George's and others' critique of Rico's defensive schemes are based on knowledge that I don't have, so I'm not qualified to chip in my 2 cents' worth. My only conjecture was that the coaches had valid reasons for playing Schmidt over Morgan. What those reasons were is anybody's guess.
Showtime program on ND and Maryland basketball leading up to the 2015 tournament. I liked it a lot thought it was very well done. One thing I didn't know was that DJ was living in a foster home and then moved in with a family, that he still lives with in South Bend. They didn't really go into what his situation is exactly, but it was one of the best parts of the show, that and showing Pat Connaughton's game at BC last year and all the friends and neighbors who came to the game..it was a lot. Good stuff on Jerian as well. It's an hour and a half, I didn't watch it all in one sitting, easy to pause and come back to it. I have to say between this and A Season with Notre Dame Football...kudo's to Showtime. http://www.sho.com/sho/reality-docs/titles/3419440/hoops-u#/index
Per a source close to the situation on the player's end (so not Notre Dame's end), Irish tight end Tyler Luatua has a desire to transfer from Notre Dame. He has yet to speak face-to-face with Brian Kelly about it, but he's planning to do so with all of the paperwork already filled out. Luatua has contemplated transfer in the past, but Kelly has talked him out of it. Anna Hickey Recruiting Analyst Twitter
I saw something that indicated that if Luatua leaves that maybe Chase Hounshell will be back for a 6th year. He's trying to get approved and had apparently already talked to Chuck Martin at Miami about playing his last year for him. Smythe, Jones, and Weishar at TE should be enough if we don't have any injuries. If Hounshell comes back and Luatua leaves then Chase can resume his role as blocking TE. But hopefully all the TE's including the young pup Alize Jones will be good blockers next year. Also..on the women running up the score, I see where UConn beat SMU by 53 this weekend and the Irish beat Va.Tech by 39. I don't think either Geno or Muffet are big on RUTS but they have so much more talent that even playing the reserves a lot you still end up with these big margins.
West Coast kid, who wants to be closer to family, granted Provo is closer but it's not all that close. It can't be the weather, pretty darn cold in Provo with a lot of snow as well. I'm sure being mormon he's drawn to BYU, I don't blame him for that. Bottom line is that I'm sorry he's leaving but we should be just fine. I still wonder how many trips home to see his sick grammy Eddie Vanderdoes has made from UCLA?
Well Corey Robinson will be going for the trifecta next year... 1. Student 2. Football Player 3. Student Body President. Sid, Gip...you ever heard of a football player being the Student Body President? Any scholarship athlete ever been Student Body President? http://ndsmcobserver.com/2016/01/hold-robinson-president/
Like Sid I don't ever recall that. I'm sure that it requires a substantial time commitment. I hope he doesn't spread himself too thin.
According to one poster Ken Adamson was the 1960 Sr. Class President, but that would have been before Sid enrolled I think. Captain of the 1959 Irish football team, and 1960 heavyweight Bengal Bout champ. Also started at guard on the very first Denver Bronco team. Later he was president and CEO of Capitol Coor's Distributing Co. located in Sacramento. Definitely not a jock under achiever.
