So FSU pays the bill for what Jamies Winston did to that girl. How about that attny/client split...she got assaulted again it seems to me. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/14644864/florida-state-settling-lawsuit-jameis-winston-accuser
It seems to me that there is a VERY large rug this has been swept under but in a court of law no guilt has been applied. I am sure that Winston has sold an outstanding amount of jerseys for FSU and look for a contribution to the University from him in the future , the Winston athletic center or something similar.... Justice it seems is for those of us with smaller bank accounts and priority....But one look at American history, are we really surprised...
What this does not do is stop the Government Title IX investigation. But I agree that attorney/client split sure looks strange. It was also a lawsuit about how the complaint was handled not whether the rape occurred. That lawsuit still continues against Winston.
Just to explain what happened here. This lawsuit was not filed by an attorney who took the file on a contingent basis. If the plaintiff were to recover she would not only receive an award but also be awarded additionally actual attorney's fees. Unlike attorneys who represent individuals through insurance companies and who charge very reasonable fees these attorneys who represent individuals in cases where attorney's fees are additional damages request fees based on a rate that's very high. For instance let's take 2 attorneys in this case who put in a total of 1000 hrs. on this case  they request a fee of $750 an hour. If the court goes for it voila $750,000. In cases like these it really doesn't matter how much the Plaintiff gets as long as she prevails. If so her attorney will get "actual" attorney's fees. You can see why FSU might have made an economic decision to turn off the meter.
Didn't want to start a new topic for this little piece of information. It used to be called the Fulmer Cup, the team with the most arrests wins. This is from the boys at Saturday down South. 5 year totals, doesn't include the 2015 season. Glad to see the Irish in the bottom of the list. http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/sec-football/college-football-arrests-2015/[/img]
BTW did you guys see that viral video of Missouri QB Maty Mauk doing a line of cocaine? Now he's apparently had some problems with substances as he was booted a couple of other times by Gary Pinkel, let back on one time then booted again. It's clear that somebody at the party that he was at snuck this cell phone video and probably got paid by somebody for it. Made some bucks ratting out his buddy. Johnny Manziel has had this happen more than once, and so have other athletes and celebrities. The cellphone video has ruined more than a few of these people. I don't get it why supposed friends think it's ok to sell you out for some money.
Regarding the Fulmer Cup standings, it's a little misleading. Some university communities like Talley go out of their way to keep players (starting players) from being arrested. The Winston case is a perfect example.
If you care, here's an article written when this list came out (which does not yet include 2015 data): http://www.seattletimes.com/sports/wsu-cougar-football/is-washington-state-really-the-worst-behaved-team-in-college-football/ If you're really interested in seeing a more thoughtful ranking of thug/criminal behavior, check out the 2015 Fulmer Cup: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheFulmerCup/comments/3jz8i4/the_2015_fulmer_cup_awards_for_criminal/ And here's the discussion of how Rutgers ran away with the win: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheFulmerCup/comments/3jifpk/multiple_5_current_rutgers_football_players/cupkpsq Here's the spreadsheet for all of the teams: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1fEneR_nof3KxZQUbMnfVoGUiXD9mQ1aCc3_Umhhsg5s/edit#gid=1 Quick hits: 69 - Rutgers 44 - Auburn 29 - Indiana 25 - LSU 20 - S. I didn't know the Fulmer Cup was that closely followed, spreadsheets, and it's own section on Reddit! Interesting stuff, SEC and Big10 are the leaders!
Seems the real cost to FSU so far is about $1.7 million of which the boosters will cover $1.3 million. However there is still the Title IX investigation by the government. Bosters to cover $1.3 Million of Lawsuit against FSU
I'm doing the cucaracha over here as Miami is no where close to the top on the list, all it takes is 15 years of being irrelevant and you become saintly....
