ND <t>If he wants to go, let him go. Too much talent on hand and coming to try to keep someone who's heart is somewhere else. good luck young man.</t>
Tonight Jackie Young became the all-time highest scorer in Indiana history - boy or girl - surpassing Damon Bailey.
I saw that some think that report by the BYU reporter is wishful thinking. That Luatua is happy at ND and nobody has heard anything about wanting to transfer. I guess we'll find out, since he's still enrolled and all I expect he'll go through Spring Drills. Could still announce this summer that he will not be returning. Irish women beat Syracuse handily last night.

It stands to reason that a girl would be the all time leading scorer. Coaches have no mercy in girls basketball. They only stop pressing the action when the final buzzer sounds. You routinely see 50+ point scoring differentials. Its like all girls basketball coaches are Billy Tubbs.
George, that's a gross generalization based on a few glaring examples. I've seen situations like that locally, and it's disgusting, but it's not the norm, far from it. There is not the same level of parity as in boys/mens BB, but the game is highly competitive, and even the average players are very athletic and talented. You have two sons, so I'm guessing you've not been a follower of girls' HS basketball. I followed it when my kids were in school 20+ years ago, and I follow it today because of a granddaughter who plays at a high level. My son, who is a good judge of talent, has seen Jackie Young in person, and he says she is an outstanding athlete who is unselfish and makes her teammates better. She's not just a scorer. She is is an all around player and a leader by example.
I will stand by my observation which goes back to the girls teams when I was in high school. I have always found that, particularly in high school, the girls have no problem running up scores against the weaker teams. I don't know if they view the game differently or whatever and I don't really care but if guys did it, the game would probably end in a brawl. This was not meant as a slight against this young lady.
I don't really know about the HS game, but the college game the haves are way in front of the have nots. Just look at the margin of victory for UConn womens teams. Used to be that way for the Lady Vols as well in Pat Summit's great years.
Well it's kind of hard to tackle with 1 good arm...maybe that's why we saw the Joe Schmidt we saw this year. As Prister says it will bring into question why a healthy Nyles Morgan didn't play.
The criticism has no validity unless - and this is a common trait of armchair QBs - you think you know more than the coach(es) Who knows what they saw in the two players that caused them to decide in favor of Schmidt? It's entirely possible that they saw more value to the entire 11-man effort in his leadership than in the unpolished physical ability of Morgan. I don't know what they were thinking, but I'm glad he was on the field.
I wish Joe could have been healthy for the season and had a great senior season. He was clearly a team leader and the whole walk on to captain was another great story. I was a big Joe Schmidt fan, and still am. He's going to be a success in life no matter what he decides to do going forward. As far as arm chair QB's it's of course not just ND fans, if there is a team out there playing a sport there is a guy/gal on the sidelines who can see things that the coaches can't see and know more than the coaches. Just the nature of the beast. Of course sometimes they are right! Nyles will get his chance to show us what he can do this fall!
I saw Morgan play last year against LSU. Earlier in the game, he was lost in space. At halftime, they adjusted his role so it was binary. This, or that. He was incredible. He either sold out to stop the run, or blitzed and was a huge problem for LSU. They couldn't get him in space because we rotated coverage to Jaylon Smith. It was a very clever idea and I am positive that was 100% Uncle Rico's doing. If Morgan has learned the system and can make the calls, he'll be a monster. He's not like Jaylon, he's more hammer than sickle.
Wow! I knew Crable was a monster LB, but I had no idea he was that phenomenal. Also, I believe we played 1 or 2 less games per season when he played. I could be wrong, but if I'm right, it only enhances his amazing record when compared to the phenoms of today like Te'o and Smith.
Big win for the Irish men, but a big loss with the injury to DJ, they are saying it's a hamstring. He's our best player and we will need him if we are going to make the NCAA tournament. On the upside other than a convincing 27 pt win vs a bad B C team is the play of freshman Rex Pfleugger, he's playing great defense and starting to show a little offense. Irish women play VA TECH tomorrow if they can get to South Bend.
At the risk of being labeled an armchair QB, I think Uncle Rico's defensive scheme is too complex. Too much thought slows athletes down. Instinct gives way to indecision. There are too many great athletes on this team to be giving up 30-40 points per game.
