Getting ready to head out of here over to Orlando for what should be a defensive slugfest between Michigan and Florida. I just hope that Bama's powerful domination of MSU gets into the heads of both teams. Speaking of Bama their offensive strategy last night looked eerily similar to how they managed to pull away from the Gators three weeks ago. That's twice in a row so I think Clemson may be looking for that over the top stuff in the NC game. So expect Henry then to run over the Tigers for 200 yards.... Anyway.... Gators defense and and combo of Callaway and Taylor wins this thing today.... 20-17 Gators!!
Embaraasing. Defense played like some it's stars were declared for the NFL..... Oh yeah that's right.
Bobda...that's too funny. I'd say Michigan is back. I never expected them to score 41 points on that Gator defense. I really thought this would be a very low scoring game. I did pick UM to win, because I thought they would score a TD, I wasn't sure Fla would.
Very impressive win, Bobda. Great season for the Gators, Dave and Bill. Had Crazy John over and he watched his Wolverines in one room and I watched the Buckeyes in the adjoining room.
Two first year coaches yesterday..... two tremendous differences in the results yielded on the field in Orlando. Michigan didn't pay JH enough. We may be making too much out of Jim McElwain's success. We were five 4th down conversions by Will Grier away from going 9-4 and we were taken to OT by FAU not to mention a missed FG away from losing to Vandy. Tennessee appears to be a much better team than UF right now and is there anyone here who thinks the Vols wouldn't have given Michigan a tough game?
Bobda, well done by your boys.....expected them to show well, but didn't expect the a$$ kicking that we witnessed. Yep....and I think that is a great thing! Not a chance for Urbie and his staff to get complacent with Harbaugh on the prowl in AA. Epic battles to come.....
BT, Thanks! Suspect Urban and Harbaugh will take this afternoon off to savor their victories and then hit the recruiting trail looking to get the jump on the other guy.
Well until the Gators get a QB they are going to have to win with defense. Michigan had a QB, huge advantage. What are the Gator prospects? True freshman doesn't seem like a good thing unless he's the #1 overall QB in his class or something like that. It would seem like McElwain would bring in a JUCO or a Graduate Transfer who could upgrade the position and start right away.
UF has a transfer Qb Luke DelRio who is highly thought of by the coaches and a highly rated recruit Feliepe Franks coming in. In any event I think Treon is done as Qb at UF. On a bowl side note my son and I met and tailgated a little bit with former UM defensive end and only 4 time All American Mark Messner from the mid 80s era. Very nice guy with a beautiful wife and kids and a whole lot of Michigan friends with him.... Including ex-WR great Anthony Carter. Best part of the whole day...
Del Rio began at Alabama, went to Oregon, now at Florida? Building up his frequent flyer miles? Cool tailgate party!
It was a cool tailgate Kp..... lots of fun talking about Michigan games of old with Messner. We especially discussed the 1986 game vs. Ohio State when he was a senior and my only game attended ever in Columbus. He brought up the fact that it was the one where Harbaugh pissed all of Buckeyeland off by predicting a Wolverines victory. Also he said that recently he received a facebook message from then Ohio State Qb Greg Frey jokingly "forgiving" him of a late hit on the Qb during that game..
Well the Gators jumped into the Graduate Transfer game with Austin Appleby from Purdue headed to Gainesville. Stu? What's his upside? http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/14506361/purdue-boilermakers-quarterback-austin-appleby-transferring-florida-gators
Good kid...potentially a very good QB...never really lived up to the hype that he came in with but he certainly can play and how much of that lack of great sucess was due to the rest of the team and coaching is always subject to speculation. I expect that he will compete strongly for the job.
Congratulations Stu very good win for Michigan and a very poor performance by the Gators. Fortunately this season is over and looking back it's a small miracle we won 10 games. Appleby is very intriguing as is Luke DelRio. I kind of image one of them will be the starting QB for the Gators this year.
I look at the Tenn miracle and the fortunate wins over Vandy and FAU and see potential disaster next season. Of course the other side of the coin is the blasting we gave Ole Miss when we had a Qb. This team really really limped in the to the finish.....kinda of like the 1999 team did with Doug Johnson. In 2000 the Gators won the SEC with a very very good team. Maybe this one will come together next year like that one did.
