For what it's worth the Gator players seem to be unfazed by the Grier story this week: http://www.gatorsports.com/article/20151013/ARTICLES/151019888?tc=cr I'm going to buy in to that and keep my hopes for a Gator W in the bayou where they were. I look at the offensive struggles for 3 quarters against Tenn, the 14 points eeked out at Ky and the 14 offensive points scored at Missouri and it is diificult to say that Treon Harris cannot at least duplicate or possibly even exceed those numbers. The 6-0 streak has been much more than just Will Grier. I like the team's attitude and I think we have a chance Sat. night in BR.
LSU will be without the FB that has helped make Superman unstoppable this year. Has Treon Harris played since Grier was named the starter? How did he play when they split the duties?
Treon has had no significant playing time since Grier was named starter but in the first game he was very very good.... completing a high percentage of his passes and running the offense so well that I was beginning to wonder in the second game if we shouldn't have gone back to him. So maybe he is really improved from last year and working in a more cohesive offensive system with more productive receivers. Like the Gator LB says to him in the article he just needs to protect the ball first and foremost and give the defense a chance.
MCG, don't forget that Harris started about half the games last year so it's not like we are sticking a true freshman with no playing time out there. I believer there is a very good chance that Treon handles the situation very well.
Wish I could forget most of what Harris did last year in that moribund Muschamp offense. That is why I have the trepidations I do about him replacing Grier. Oh well..... at least it's not Jeff Driskel.
What a difference a coach can make speaking of Driskel: comp% yards Ydspp TDs Ints passer rating 2015 LT 61.0 1812 8.1 11 3 142.8 2014 FLA 53.8 1140 5.4 9 10 103.5
MCG, while I agree with you about what a difference a coach can make I don't think you made your case with the comparison you posted. The difference in the level of competition from last year to this year is far do different to prove your point.
I think you have to consider the surrounding cast at La Tech also. Even so La Tech lost in triple overtime at Kansas State this year. Driskel was 30 of 51 for 314 yards with one TD and no ints. He also rushed 42 yards for 2 TDs. Pretty good game vs. tough competition on the road. That said I feel a lot better that Treon Harris is stepping in for Grier in Baton Rouge instead of Driskel stepping in.
After watching the game and seeing how the Gators fought hard, never gave up even tying the game late in the third quarter after being down 28-14 halftime in a place like Death Valley I reached the same conclusion that the national pundits seem to have reached post game.... that these Gators are back... and for real. Jim McElwain looks like a home run hire for Jeremy Foley. Also... if I can draft Leonard Fournette next year in my NFL fantasy draft you can bet your ass I will.
I told everyone after the bowl game that 'we don't have anyone like Forni and neither do you' and I meant it. I haven't seen one of those guys since Walker and Jackson made it seem like the super back would last forever.
Although I of course didn't watch any of the LSU/UF game, reading the recap was pretty impressive for the Gators to go into Death Valley at night and almost pull of the upset. Looks like unless the bottom falls out you guys should win the SEC East easily. Georgia looks like a shell of the former team they were to start the season. 9 points vs Mizzou? I know Chubb is a big loss, but they still have a young stud back in Sony Michel. So you guys might get another shot at Alabama or LSU.
Back a few weeks ago I thought that "having another shot" at Bama or LSU in Atlanta would be pointless for UF. Not now......
