I wonder what kind of surprises we are in for this week? Who really is the best team at this point? The B!G TEN Conference is looking much stronger as a whole! Bitter disappointment for the Irish after almost winning the game at Clemson. Kelly is being criticised for his play calling at games end. Big 12 Conference is well represented with TCU and Baylor. The Tide is back on track.
Of course. That's what chameleon fans and talking boobs do. They focus on the negative and miss the big picture. They naively assume that another play call would have worked. I prefer to focus on the character of a team that didn't fold after making every mistake in the book and facing the grim reaper. Despite the ugliness of our play, we clawed back and had a chance to tie at the end. It didn't happen, so we move on.
I think the results of Alabama vs. Georgia have given the Gators a nice blueprint for continued SEC success the rest of the season. Stack the line vs. the elite running games of LSU and Georgia and dare their mediocre Qbs to throw against our superior NFL caliber secondary. Play the way they should against the rest like Missouri, SC and Vandy and take care of business. Now the trick is can the team be inspired enough by the coaching staff to get out there and do it every Saturday.
Big Games for Week 6 Washington at USC...doubt if USC has any trouble with the puppies. LSU at So. Carolina ...So. Carolina is a mess, Superman might get 300 yds. Baylor @ Kansas...another 70 point explosion. Baylor backups get a lot of playing time. OU and Texas...used to be called the Red River War, this year it might be the Red River Massacre. Stoops loves nothing better than to hang 60 on Texas. Don't let your children watch. Maryland at Ohio State...Michigan trounced them last week, I think the Buckeyes do the same. Ga. Tech at Clemson...Ga. Tech has been very disappointing this season. They had a great year last year and finished strong with the QB coming back and a lot of other players. I doubt if this is the game that gets them going. Georgia at Tenn ... Don't know what to think here. Tenn has been close in all their losses, are they due? But Georgia is bound to be a wounded Dawg and dangerous. Navy at Notre Dame...hopefully having already played Ga.Tech will help the Irish vs the Navy triple option that has given them a lot of trouble since Paul Johnson installed it there. We should win, I'd be surprised if we don't win, but mainly I hope that we don't lose any linemen/linebackers to that chop block that option teams lose. This was the game that ended Joe Schmidt season last year. Northwestern at Michigan. Northwestern having a nice season and everybody agree's Pat Fitzgerald is an excellent coach. But he doesn't wear Khakis! Ark at Alabama....Tide looks like they have finally settled on a QB and he's settled as the starter. Offense/Defense now clicking. Piggies have no chance. CAL at Utah...last 2 unbeatens in the Pac12.
Skybox Games. Wisconsin at Neb....a must win B1G game for both teams and for AJ's mental health! Minn at Purdue ...Boilermakers like Texas are looking at a really bad start if they don't win. Oregon St. at Arizona...Wildcats after 2 losses to very good teams need to get it turned around, they still could end up with a great season. Wazzu at Oregon...so which Oregon team will show up? The one that scores 60 points or the one that gives up 60 points? I'm sure the Pirate would prefer that one with the bad defense. Fla at Missouri...have the Gators found the formula? Will it work if they take it all the way to Missouri? Miami at FSU ... FSU seems to be struggling on offense, but still wining and undefeated. Miami's coach could really use a big win.
I have to say that if Texas loses and loses badly to OU, as I expect that they will...Charlie Strong is in deep do doo.. Sure right now nobody but fans and media are after him... But this season is looking more and more like a season that could be historic in terms of losses. Looking at the schedule I can see only 2 games that we could win right now, Iowa State and Kansas. The rest we'll be underdogs. a 3-9 season just will not sit well. There are a number of things to consider though. 1. Texas has an interim AD, I think they will let the new AD make the hire if Charlie is to be let go. That will mean he will be coaching next year. The new guy will have time to survey the coaching world and come up with a list of guys. I don't think Saban, or Urban or Harbaugh are coming. So it'll be somebody else. 2. This bad year will make recruiting hard, not as much for 2016 as much of the class is already in, but the 2017 kids might hang back in a wait and see mode before signing on to Texas. 3. Strong has all but fired Shawn Watson the OCoord, so you have to figure he'll be gone and need to be replaced. Norvell the current guy calling the plays can easily be awarded the title, but then you have to hire a new guy, and it's tough sometimes to get top guys to come when the coach is on the hot seat and it could easily be a 1 year job and then you are looking for another job. I'm not sure what'll happen with our OL coach Wickline who is embroiled in a lawsuit with Oklahoma State. Big Mess to say the least.
 Texas players were Tweeting that they're transferring out of there at HALFTIME of the last game. This was reported on TV during the other games last Saturday... http://deadspin.com/texas-player-tweets-about-transferring-during-halftime-1734485681
It's a bit of a mess around the Texas team right now that's for sure. The one kid who got on his phone and sent that tweet about transferring to A&M was re-tweeting something that was tweeted to him, apparently he retweets just about everything somebody tweets to him. But there are other issues as well with Sr's calling out freshmen and the reverse. Winning is the only real cure. Not sure that's going to happen this weekend.
Heisman Watch .. No surprise that Superman at LSU is still in the lead. He's having one of those years. The rest of the ESPN Top 5 are.. Boykin TCU Elliot Ohio State Chubb Georgia Garrett Texas A&M.... If Garrett gets into the conversation seriously I guess I'll have to drag out all of Scott's old arguments against Manti' Teo!
Myles Jack the outstanding UCLA linebacker who was injured recently, has withdrawn from UCLA and will enter the NFL draft. I'm sure he's doing this so that he can sign with an agent who will front him the money to get into the best rehab program and so that he can focus 100% on that rehab and proving to NFL GM's and doctors that he is ready to go and committed and maybe rescue his 1st round daft status.
The Texas / OU game is the light at the end of my tunnel. There is no doubt that both Texas and Tennessee's seasons are over. Who has the fortitude to gut out the rest of the games? Can Texas play OU closer than the double overtime loss they put on Tennessee?
I like the chances of the Vols staying within 2 TD's of Georgia more than I like Texas chances of staying within 40 points of OU. Stoops loves to run it up against us (or anybody really) He'll have the Starting QB in late in the game throwing on first down to see if he can get to 70, I swear he'll do it.
I'll take the bait. The play was Kizer in a straight run between right guard and tackle. He needed about two yards. His offensive line had been neutralized at the line all night. If he had sprinted out something may have developed; with this call there was only one option. We traded athleticism for brute force when the latter had not worked all night.
I realize that touting future Gator wins vs. Missouri lately has been more like stomping on Superman's toe.... or poking a grizzly bear in the eye etc. but I just get the feeling that UF's defense is going to school the young freshman Qb Lock in the game at Mo. on Saturday. He will be more like Jameis Winston melting in the face of an NFL pass rush than he will be Tom Brady manhandling one. I'm poking the bear..... UF 37 - 14 over the Tigers of Mizzou.
They were talking about the Missouri/UF game on College Sports on XM and they said Missouri has a really good defense and might be a very low scoring game. Also first big road game for the Gators, and it's a long road trip to Missouri!
I always underestimate Missouri. But I think UF will have a short field at times.... the kid Qb hasn't seen pressure like he's going to see and I see turnovers happening. I say UF gets 17 points off turnovers and the O manages 20 points on it's own. UF managed to beat Kentucky in Lexington and that's no gimme game this year.
Kelly and Kizer both say he had a pass option on the play, but it looked to me like he never considered that and was going to run from the moment he took the snap. I was surprised, at the run myself and would have thought to throw the ball but if that had failed everybody would have complained about that call as well. But as somebody already said the game was really lost early in the 1st qtr when they went up 14-0 in a flash. It's done though, and I'm glad our team bowed up and made it tight at the end and never quit. As Kelly said, if you told me before the game we were going to turn the ball over 4 times, I'd have said we lost. I never really thought we'd be undefeated, and if we were it mean that somewhere along the line we got lucky and got a win we didn't earn. Ball bounced our way, sort of like the Pitt game in 2012.
