Polls should be out later today, don't really expect much change in the top 10 if any. Everybody won. Stanford will fall out and Texas A&M will jump up into the top 25 of that I am sure. Arizona State might fall out of the top 25 but more likely they'll fall from #15 to #23 or something like that. Wisconsin will also likely drop and maybe even out of the top 25, not sure who else will jump up maybe OK State or Miss State. Skybox Teams in action: Miami vs Fla. Atlantic Oregon State vs Michigan Home debut for Harbaugh, will be shocked if it's not a win. Hawaii at Ohio State Wash State at Rutgers Middle Tenn at Alabama Okalhoma at Tenn big big test for Butch Jones. Arizona at Nevada Ball State at Texas A&M Rice at Texas " why does Rice play Texas" who said that? South Alabama at Neb Notre Dame at Virginia. Indiana State at Purdue. Big games obviously the Tenn/OU game and the Oregon State/Mich game. Some early conference match ups.. Kentucky/So.Carolina Georgia/Vanderbilt Wake Forrest/Syracuse. Other than that everybody pretty much has a schedule win.
Tennessee better have been sandbagging in the area of DB this past week or this one is going to get ugly fast. My ray of hope is that our DB Coach was suspended for last week's game which explains little to no adjustment especially between halves. He is back this week against OU. Offense should not be a problem... Defense? I have concerns!
Stu, I watched the Purdue-Marshall game on Sunday. Very disappointing loss for the Boilers. If you saw it, you know what I mean. They let a chance to make an opening day statement slip through their fingers.
ASU, Stanford and Wisc dropped from AP poll, as predicted A&M makes a big move up, and Utah and Miss State make a move as well. In the coaches poll it's Stanford and ASU with Utah and A&M replacing them. Other than that not much has changed.
Texas OCoord no longer will call the plays....to be replaced by Jay Norvell the WR coach. QB competition is wide open.
What's the vibe for Rice? I expect you'll win, but gosh your QB's are BAD. Can we expect to see a steady diet of Grey right, and left?
Bill the last two seasons UF has played it's way into irrelevancy. Unfortunate but true. Hopefully McElwain can get the thing turned around.
The Buckeyes and Hawaii do not excite me this Saturday, maybe the was dance prior to the game by the Rainbows? I am more interested in how Tom Herman has the Cougars prepared for Louisville on the road. That could prove to be a very interesting game?
On Sunday if there is any real story out of the Alabama/Middle Tenn St. game, then I am probably not a happy camper.
Sumlin was on this morning on local radio and the host asked him about using both Kyler Murray and Kyle Allen and while he wandered all over the place trying not to say something that he'd regret or have to eat later it does seem like he's going to try and play 2 QB's this year. He shouldn't have much of a problem with Ball State at Kyle Field. Aggies should blast those guys and have lots of opportunities for backups getting a lot of work. But you know what they say, if you have 2 QB's.... Of course at Texas we have no QB's! Now that OC Watson has been demoted and only works with QB's, and OL Wickline also no longer involved in play calling and Jay Norvell former OU OCoord is the man the speculation is that Jerrod Heard will be the starter vs Rice. He's the Kyler Murray of Austin, won a couple of State Championships, very speedy, but unknown if he is ready to be a thrower in college. But a lot of people look at Auburn and their QB wasn't really much of a thrower but they had such a great running game that he just had to make the throws that were there didn't have to really beat you with his arm. Of course that brings us to the currently non-existent Texas running game. Oh boy...if Strong doesn't beat Rice life gets tough he's got a pretty decent CAL team coming in next week.
Some food for thought in this NYT article, an interview of Notre Dame President Fr. John Jenkins. http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/eye-on-college-football/25295793/brian-kelly-return-of-notre-dame-michigan-series-trending-up I hope we don't end up with a semi-pro model for college football or any college sport, and as painful as it would be I'd back him in Notre Dame leaving that model and going to a more Ivy League Model. I do support the full cost of attendance, although I'm a little confused by the wide difference in the money kids are getting, at some schools it's upwards of 6K and at a lot of schools its more like 2K. I'm not sure what he's suggesting when he says this though. I am definitely not for college athletes having agents who would arrange commercial deals for players. It would seem like it would lead to players resenting coaches decisions on their playing time as it might impact their earning capacity and cause them to transfer to a school in a different market and where alumni might hire him for endorsements and such.
Here is Coach Kelly on the Rich Eisen show responding to the comments last month by Gary Pinkel, Dabo Swinney et all: The entire video is 10 minutes long. The segment I'm citing runs from 4:10 to 5:35. FYI, immediately following that segment is a discussion of ND-Michigan getting back together. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/2PqQYo4OIJg" frameborder="0"></iframe>
I left out LSU/Miss State as a big game this weekend and also another really big game that won't get a lot of play, but Boise State vs BYU could be huge as if Boise State beats BYU they have a good shot at going undefeated and maybe snagging a playoff spot. That'll ruffle a few feathers. Can you imagine it if ND and Boise State make it and thus only 2 of the 5 Power 5 conference champions make it as well. The committee has shot down any thought of going to an 8 team playoff, but conference champions getting shut out...that'll get some attention. Can you imagine if 2 SEC West teams go undefeated and till they meet and then the loser plays a great game and loses by a whisker and goes on to be a 1 loss team while the winner finishes undefeated and SEC Champ and both teams get into the playoff...
Sid...same ol' same ol'. Saw some good things...improvement even. A game that most predicted us to lose anyway. But dammit...you gotta play 4 quarters. You can't coast. You can't start playing "not to lose". You can't change up what has been working for you (until they stop it). Same ol' same ol'
Will Grier getting the start for the Gators this week, he didn't start last week. So what's up? Did he just play that well and the other guy not? 61 points is a lot of points. I read that Dantonio has named Levon Bell an honorary capt for the Oregon game. Does he know that he's on suspension for DUI and Drugs? What's the message? In the off season Dabo Swinney and Gary Pinkel went off on Notre Dame not being in a conference and in a radio interview this week Kelly was pressed on that and said well when those coaches stop playing FCS opponents they can talk about schedule strength and stuff. On the subject of FCS opponents..B1G schools can't schedule them in the future and Dana Holgerson said after this year WVA will no longer schedule them and thinks everybody should stop scheduling them. Bottom line there are plenty of "patsies" out there in FBS without putting the Citadel or Liberty or Wagner on your schedule.
