First, what is Labor Day La·bor Day noun a public holiday or day of festivities held in honor of working people, in the US and Canada on the first Monday in September, in many other countries on May 1. So what ya cooking this weekend? Yeah I admit I am a workaholic but I love to shop for groceries and cook when it makes sense....Today was baby back ribs on the grill, corn on the cob and mustard greens cooked with bacon and onion....My stay at home bride of 31 years thinks I'm nuts as I find it fun to buy groceries.... Tomorrow, hmmmm, not quite figured it out yet...If it rains multiple inches as expected I will run out to the farm to run pumps, my water man is on vacation enjoying the NASCAR race this weekend....Either way I win as work is rewarding and fruitful......
Taking the holiday next week to coincide with my mother's side of the family, family reunion. Will be making our 2nd 2300 mile round trip motorcycle ride of the year. Working all week this week but modifying my schedule to give an early departure on Friday. Normal shift is 08:00 to 17:00. That will be my shift on Monday. On Tuesday, 06:00 to 15:00... Wednesday, 04:00 to 13:00... Thursday, 02:00 to 11:00... and Friday, 00:00 to 09:00. This change in schedule gives me more of a presence for Asia than I can normally give. Here is the fun part. Cindy does not want to make the trip in one day. She is going to bed at 20:00 on Thursday night to get up early enough to leave at 04:00 Friday morning. She is going to go as far as she feels comfortable with a destination to be somewhere between Monroe, La and Jackson, MS. I will go to bed at 09:00 on Friday morning to wake up by 17:00 to load up the bike and leave by 18:00. This should put me in Jackson, MS by 04:00 or to Monroe, LA earlier. We use "Find Friends" app on the iPhone to be able to find each other. I can determine where she is with that app. I'll wake her up, take a shower, and we leave by 05:00 to be in Chattanooga by 14:00. I love being a road warrior again... especially on a bike.
Johnsonville brats on Hawaiian King rolls Baked beans with molasses and brown sugar with thick bacon on top Homemade potato salad. Ice cold IPAs
Steak on the grill (Rib Eye for me, small filet for my wife) Cowboy Beans (a tasty recipe obtained from a friend, using dark & light kidney beans) Corn on the Cob Tom, sounds like a great trip. Cross country motorcycling once was on my bucket list. Now at my age, I just say, be careful. I know your machines are very safe, but I still say, be careful. All: I'm hungry just reading what everyone is having.
You guys live a much more exciting life than I do, retired or not..... 8) , thanks for sharing. Today did turn into a Labor Day as we received 3.5" of rainfall last night and I had to make the trek to the grove..It could be worse, 30 miles north got an astounding 6" in one hour washing the world away....We did attempt to plant a new block of seedless tangerine trees this morning until another round of showers halted our efforts... Not everything was work related as I had guest from Tampa bass fishing today, and on last count they had caught 32 bass ninety minutes into their visit...If you like fantastic large mouth bass I can hook you up literally.... Gotta go, for some reason I'm craving wienerschnitzel.....
Salad at Potbelly with an oatmeal chocolate chunk cookie for desert! Hey Ralph is that one of those Burmese python's from the 'glades to right of the new trees?
Dave within our property we have 500 acres of reservoirs where we "stack" our water into, this is mainly for water removal to dry out the grove but in winter I can flood the grove as well. Anyway, along with these we also have a serie of canals that eventually feed the reservoirs that maintains an incredible Bass population.... This Bass population is like something from a stocked trout farm as almost every cast it seems brings one in. The only rule I have to anyone fishing is its all catch and release unless it's over ten lbs and the person wants to mount the fish. It's not unheard of for the Tampa guys to spend 6-8 hours out here but to catch 65 bass in the process. You'll appreciate this, on Monday a guy brought his brother visiting from Detroit fishing and the brother caught a 4.5 lb bass the first cast, the guy was elated to say the least. I don't guide the fishing as I am either working doing something else or doing my best NOT to be at the farm for a change, my wife gives me hell for never being home. Our farm is all private and gated so in essence the fishing is not open to the public which keeps the fishing top notch. During our peach season the wife of Roland Martin was collecting our cull peaches to feed the hungry and brought her husband with her on one of the visits. He took one look at the reservoirs and asked if he can film one of his fishing shows on our property. I don't charge a thing Dave as I permit my friends to fish as they won't take advantage of me, I consider you a friend and would love to meet you and your sons one day. Now I have to be honest one of the guys from Tampa is an executive with the beer distribution company and loads me down with all the beer I want and then some. But your cost (at least for a minute so I can get a picture) is you have to wear a Hurricane hat to fish out here....
I hope Dave takes you up on your generous offer......and I hope you post the photo of him wearing the Canes hat.
Can this be fished from the bank Ralph? I have a couple of friends in Bradenton that love to fish and we all three go a few times per year. We'll all three wear Canes caps..... how about that?
Yeah most if not all is done by fishing the bank, just watch where you step and keep the top water baits ahead of the Gators.... It's a deal on the Cane hats....
That's about a two hour drive for me.... but sounds like it would be well worth it. If we can do this on a Saturday or Sunday I'm willing to give it a try. I'll buy you breakfast before we get started. Would ideally like it to be later in the fall when the temps cool off a bit.
