Here is an unscientific list of prominent baseball players who just might have used PEDS and/or steroids and gotten clean away with it. There are ten guys on this list and many are not the usual suspects. Some are "sacred cows". I am amazed that Big Papi is not listed. http://www.answers.com/article/1187...param5=10151977052091186¶m6=6032486223737
I don't know. This caught my eye because we all concerned about the sanctity of the game. I thought it might be of interest.
It's definitely thought provoking, but as I read through it (which I always do enthusiastically with anything you post, Godfather), I became increasingly annoyed by the writer's lack of substance and downright pull-it-out-of-his a-- approach to each player. For example, suspecting Nolan Ryan because, among other reasons, toward the end of his career he was on the same team as Jose Canseco. So were 23 other guys. In the end, I wasn't impressed.
 This list is crap. Nolan Ryan? He was pitching in MLB in the 1960's and throwing over 100 mph as a teenager. He pitched into his mid-40's, because he would ride his stationary bicycle 10 miles after EVERY game and practice... I stopped reading after #3: Mike Sweeney. I know his father very well, and I used to coach his brother. They're a Mormon family. They don't even drink coffee...
My ex-brother in law is a Mormon. Elder in the church, tithes 15% of his annual salary. Also, a womanizer, an abuser and ultimately abandoned his family of seven. He also could not take a punch. Being a member of that cult is not a suitable defense. Neither is riding a exercise bike. Who was a bigger gym rat than Roger Clemens? He and Ryan had very similar production at an age where moist pitchers are long retired. Yet one is revered; the other reviled. I guess we will never know for sure.
Suspects are known in this...2 HS football players in Texas targeted and took out a ref they were pissed at during a game. I doubt if anybody here has ever seen anything even remotely close to what happened here....The Safety lowered his shoulder in to the ref and knocks him to the ground and the other safety spears him. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/RNCrs63JeuM" frameborder="0"></iframe>
re: hit the ref We had a similar incident here about twenty years ago. A linebacker for Fontana attacked a referee in a playoff game with Loyola. The kid claimed that the referee was making racial remarks at him during the game and also claimed that same ref was laughing at racial remarks made by the Loyola coaches throughout the game... The investigation was a quick one. Defending the referee and the Loyola coaches was the principal of Loyola HS: a priest who was African-American. He had stood near the coaches through the entire game and heard nothing of the kind... The kid was just angry, because his team got it's arse kicked.
I can guarantee one thing here: They were coached to do that. High school kids are the acorns that don't fall far from the coaching tree.
  Now that you mention it... The entire Fontana coaching staff was fired after the investigation and the program was down-graded. It has never recovered. Thank God for the administrators in the FSD who did their jobs.
Whoa.... hold on. Mike Sweeney is not a Mormon. I know Mike VERY well. He was not a roid boy. His build was gradual over time. I've literally known Mike since he was 14 years old. His a workout fanatic and always took care of his body. Half of the things I relayed to you over the years that most dismiss and the others roll their eyes came from Mike and a series of other guys who were in the Royals system at that time. I'm not a big name dropper and would never have brought this up, but to put Mikey on a list of suspected dopers is grade A ********. When I was looking to get in touch with my old Coach, it was Mike who put us back into contact. There isn't a better guy and he's honest to a fault. Additionally, he doesn't have a 'roid' build. If Mike was using PEDs, he wouldn't have spent so much time on the DL or been moved to DH. By the by, he's Catholic and I promise you he's got a jaw that can take a punch. Mikey may be a sweet guy, but he'll trade haymakers with anyone. He runs a few charitable foundations now, does some motivational speaking, and runs a Catholic baseball camp. http://abcsportscamps.com/sdcatholicbaseballcamp
in addendum, Mike, Coach Castro, and myself came to the aid of "Bubba" at that restaurant bar that was right around the corner from Ontario HS on Mountain Ave. I have no idea if it is still there. I can tell you that Mikey drinks. I know his kid brother Richard drank. I also know that when those Mexican gang members started picking on Bubba, Castro (a former cholo in his playing days at Ontario before being drafted, seeing the world a bit and growing up.) gave those 'home boys' ample opportunity. Bubba's a bonafide war her several times over serving as a tunnel rat. He fought for the Marine Corps until they sent him home an injured war hero. He then joined the Army and served another 2 tours as a tunnel rat. He's crazy as all get out but he's a tiny little man and at the time he was in bad shape, late 40s but still the heart of a lion (and the head of a pin, ask JOCO). Castro tried the homeboy approach that didn't work, then he flatly told them 'Those two big Irish motherf*ckers aren't like the those little blancas that you pick on in school, they'll f*ck you up. Bubba began talking sh*t about this being ******** and he's a war hero and all he wanted to do was have some drinks and play trivia. He finished his sentence right as the cholo hit him. At that point in time, Mike and I flew past Castro and throwing punches and elbows at anyone who moved near us. We literally cleared out the bar. I saw Castro throw a 5'9" man like it was midget tossing. We beat them down and then literally threw them out of the place if they hadn't run out already. When the cops showed up, they found us all side by side at the bar drinking and playing trivia. The police asked the owner what had happened and he said 'nothing bad.' We were a little touched up, but you don't fight an entire bar and not get hit, but we looked nothing like those little gangster bitches who must have run and called the cops. Point being, Mikey is the guy you always want on your side. He's a standup guy and their line about his hitting was pure BS. Mike was drafted as an offensive catcher (Piazza was popular then) with the idea that one day he'd probably move to first base.
Well exqueeze me! I knew he was very religious, and for some reason I thought he (Big Mike) was part of that Mormon bunch at Ontario. My bad...
That's what I get for assuming. There used to be a bunch of Mormons at Ontario HS and I thought the old man (Big Mike) was one of them. Oh well...
Nah, you're right that there were a ton of Mormons playing for me but they weren't one of them. The Sweeney's were really tight with the Borba family that you know so well because they needed each other down there... Not just personally, but for business as well being that they were some of the few Catholics down there. You're surrounded by Afrikaans with their crazy ass Dutch Reformed Church and the Mormons with their Crazy Ass Religion Corp. It can be lonely. Anywho, the dad (big Mike) is a dick but he never really wronged me. I once said that I'd rather have 1 team of 18 kids from the same city than 1 super team made of of kids from 18 counties. He thought that was ridiculous and how Bob Beck is friends with him I will never know. Bob always sees the good in people. I admire that, because I am almost incapable of it. Anyway, Mikey is different than his dad. Richard was aptly named after his father. Mikey is more driven but is a goof and a kinder person. I didn't mean to come off like JOCO should apologize for anything. The rest of that is right on. What enraged me was the suggestion that Mikey is one of the Juicers. That speculative POS article offered absolutely nothing but baseless innuendo and an astonishing lack of knowledge about the game itself.
