WFAN in NY said today Golson is leaving because the schedule ND is playing this year (being as weak as it is) will hurt him draft time.
Joel, maybe he can go straight to the NFL and play for the Deflatriots. They'll need someone to fill in for Brady for a while.
The target is a school where he can play through a bowl and never attend a class. He's probably looking in the right place.
CoachD on Zaire I think this link is not a pay article, but it's a very good read on Malik's strengths and weaknesses. To distill it down, Malik has the it factor.
The players follow this guy. The coaches believe in this guy. The alumni and subways are all behind this guy. He beat LSU convincingly on a neutral field without making a single mistake. I don't have any other questions...
So Golson, according to Bruce Feldman, is blocked from any school on the Irish schedule and several B10 schools. Conventional wisdom is of course that his knowledge of the playbook would hurt the Irish if he transferred to any school on our schedule, and I think most schools feel that way. I of course being the skeptic wonder if he could remember any of our plays! I don't really get blocking him from any B10 school though, Michigan has like 10 QB's already on the roster, Ohio State has 3 Heisman Trophy Candidates, and Michigan State has a great Sr. QB already. Penn State has Hackenberg who's been declared a high first round pick, I don't know who Wisconsin has to tell you the truth and the rest of the B10 aren't likely to really matter if he goes there for 1 year.
Well there are a lot of things ND does differently but this is one area that they pretty much do it like everybody else. I doubt if very many transfers were not given certain teams, specifically teams on our schedule, that they could not transfer to play. Dayne Crist transfered to Kansas I doubt if he could have transfered to Southern Cal. Gunner Kiel transferred to Cincy, I doubt if they would have allowed him to transfer to Southern Cal or Stanford. There have been a couple of cases where ND gave kids a no restriction release. There was an OL who transferred to Fla, but then it's not like they were going to be on our schedule. We had a couple of kids transfer to UCLA, but then we don't play them. We did have a kid who ended up at Stanford but when he left ND he went to a Jr. Colllege and graduated and then to Stanford so we didn't really have a say in things.
You can bet that none of those 10 were on our schedule. I wonder if we'll ever know who the 10 are, I guess if he visits all 10 then we'll know. Georgia, FSU and South Carolina are thought to be the schools he's most interested in playing for his last year.
I read that article about the porn star. She made a huge play for the Ohio State QB Braxton Miller when it was rumored he might transfer. Looks like she's moved on the the next candidate. Gip.....screen name Crab Legs....LOL!
Swarbrick addressed the issue about ND blocking Golson from some schools. He said Golson gave a list of schools he was interested in and all were fine with ND. They were most concerned about him going to an opponent on this year's schedule. Apparently SEC rules would prohibit him from transferring to a school in that conference. His disciplinary suspension makes him ineligible.
