Just what we needed.

A group from the city of Austin has applied to the NCAA to host a college bowl game.

The news was reported Wednesday by ESPN.com, which cited unidentified sources.

The game would pit teams from Conference USA and the American Athletic Conference. The report said Austin was one of four cities that applied for a bowl game, meeting the Wednesday deadline set by the NCAA.

It’s unclear where the game would be played.

Lance Aldridge, the new director of the Austin Sports Commission, did not return messages Wednesday left by the American-Statesman. The University of Texas is not believed to be involved.

If the games are approved — a decision would be made later this spring — there will be 43 bowl games, including the two playoff games. That would mean 84 teams would qualify for bowls. ESPN said its network would not be covering any new games.

Outstanding! I believe every HS team deserves a bowl. Hell, if they add enough, maybe the Cougars will make more than one a decade.
