I didn't see him play in person, but I lived in South Jersey across the river from Philadelphia from 1956-61. He was Mr. Eagles. A two-way player who never wore a face mask until they became mandatory. He has to be one of the toughest guys ever to play the game. R.I.P.
I saw the time he almost killed Frank Gifford on NFL Films. The players on both sides thought Gifford was gone. It was the most famous tackle in NFL history.
