YES, we're talking FOOTBALL here. Spring ball is starting up. We've made it to March this year with no major problems or hits to the program. We lost some coaches and gained some good ones too. We apparently have a battle for starting QB which should play out over the spring and we have a hell of a lot of returning starters coming back which leads me to believe we may be on the brink of a really good season. Go Irish!
Very important Spring for the Irish. Team is poised to be very good next year if they can come together this spring/summer. Need leadership badly, need Golson to seize the moment, need the RB Greg Bryant to have that light bulb go on, need the OL to solidify, esp Quentin Nelson. Need the Defense to get healthy and stay healthy!! That's all!
Practice report... 1st team was Golson with Taurean Folston at RB. 2nd team was Zaire with .....C.J. Prosise at RB....that was surprising to me given that I was really hoping Greg Bryant would have the light go on for him this spring...of course this was just the first day and there is a long way to go.
8) Relax... Everything will be OK. When Golson creates three turnovers in the first quarter and we go down 21- zippo against Texas, Kelly will put Zaire in there for the rest of the season and everything will work out just fine...
ND <t>I can't help it, I've lost all faith in Golson. He may look good in practice but come game time he will be one turnover after another. Sit him on the bench and let Zaire start. If Zaire can't handle it so be it but I'd rather take my chances on him first. I can guarantee if he starts vs Texas, we won't get down 21-0.</t>
Golson throws one of the best balls I have ever seen at the college level. The rest of his game, not so good. In the parlance, he has "scared eyes".
Well a pretty sucessful Jr. Day. Tony Jones Jr. RB Julian Love DB John Shannon Long Snapper...supposedly one of the best in the country. Haskins the highly rated QB from Maryland supposedly had a great visit and while he didn't commit, he is going to make another visit back and bring his Mom. So things look good that we can get him...of course as we have found out keeping top rated QB's is another story.
ND <r>Getting Jones was great. Looks like a RB with some power.<br/> <br/> <URL url="http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1649458/tony-jones">http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1649458/tony-jones</URL></r>
:?: I'm going to reserve judgment on Tony Jones. What worries me is the fact that he's from Beaverton, Oregon. Most years there are ZERO Div-1 players in the entire state. Even Oregon and Oregon State have years where there's not a single Oregon player on their teams. I wonder what's different about this guy?
Re: Golson Like most if not all of you, I'd rather see Zaire running the offense. However, Golson would be good to have as a backup just in case. Of course, he'd be moving on if he weren't playing with the first team this spring so I think Kelly is just doing what he has to do to keep his backup QB happy. My guess is as good as any.
Hey Joel, the SEC is going to require their members to schedule at least one non-conf game with a power team. Good news...Notre Dame qualifies as a Power team...as does BYU and of course ARMY (Ghost of Red Blaik is smiling) http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/03/19/sec-says-notre-dame-byu-and-army-will-fulfill-power-conference-scheduling-requirement/
I didn't know Jones was from Oregon. He's going to HS at the IMG Academy in Fla and is listed as a "top" Fla recruit. Maybe that's why he left Oregon...looked around and said I'll never get noticed here, to many tree's and hippies.
I guess ND fans forget a guy by the name of Jeff Faine. He too was from Oregon and went to HS in Florida.
ND <t>Oh yes, Mr Faine. We could always use more like him. I'm not really particular. As long as they can pass admissions and play great football I'm just fine with them wherever they're from. Even the west coast!!!😃</t>
Quotes to make an Irish fan smile. Brian Kelly said @CoachSanfordND has given the QBs a better focus on fundamentals than in previous years. Brian Kelly said both Quenton Nelson and Alex Bars will have to play. Just have to find the roles for them beyond LG. Kelly says Alex Bars plays like a junior while Quenton Nelson is physically overwhelming at the position. More praise for @JerryTillery from Brian Kelly: We have a tough time blocking him. “He’s just a unique player,” Kelly said. “One that I can’t remember that I’ve coached. He’s running with our first group and continues to impressive. Today in our 3-on-3 drill he was…they had a hard time blocking him. He has a unique ability at such a young age to use his hands.” BK: "Far and away, the story is (EE DT) Jerry Tillery. He's just a unique player. One that I can't remember that I've coached." BK says #NotreDame has been working with backup QB DeShone Kizer as holder. Hunter Smith and Malik Zaire split time there last year. BK says the coaching staff is very confident with Durham Smythe as a pass catcher at TE. Luatua is second TE -- more of a blocker.
