Somebody on ND nation said "Watch the Beavs screw it up big time. Looks like it. They only lead by 8 in the fourth.
Crap I wanted USC to be undefeated when we played them. Not that this changes the importance of the game, we still need the win no matter what they do from here on out.
Ha! The Condoms almost won this one too, because Oregon State doesn't know how to win these kind of games! It was only the Beaver's 3rd win against USC in the last 39 years and their 33 points on the board was the most they've scored againt the Trogs since 1914! Hoo ha! No more weeks off for Troy, which has Stanford next week, then Oregon, Cal, Notre Dame and UCLA back-to-back-to-back-to-back. They did have 6 sacks today, but were near the bottom of the Pac10 sack stats before that... Kudos to former Bruin QB Matt Moore who transferred to Oregon State when Drew Olsen replaced him as the starter when he was hurt. He guided the upset and looked good doing it... I figured that USC might lose 2 of their final four. Now it looks like 3 of their final 6... ..................JO'Co
JO'Co, USC has been flirting with losing for several weeks now. I think it finally caught up with them yesterday. How good do you think W VA is with their lack luster schedule? I can see them being our opponent in the NC game, assuming we get by Michigan. Don
I read <t>an interesting point made on a Pac10 board by a USC fan.<br/> <br/> His point was that Carroll's ego had gotten out of control and USC has gotten away from the formula of success that led the to McKay-like greatness. The poster surmised that rather than go grab another great OC and admit that Chow was the heart and soul of the offense, he would take control of the situation on offense by hiring from within and taking full accountability for them. In that regard, he is seen as a coach who is 'there' for his assistants. At the same time, the guy wont admit a mistake and replace the people that he put his neck out for.<br/> <br/> The poster pointed to the fact that USC has gotten progressively worse as the season has gone on. That would indicate that the more Carroll has interfered with the offense, in an attempt to rest his defense, the worse they got.<br/> <br/> I found it interesting, and I think it does bear some sliver of truth. However, I think much of it also has to do with USC being so young and/or inexperienced at key positions.</t>
Corey... <t>I like your last comment on SC and what is going on with them. No USC fan here but admire the great job PC has done since he got there. How does any program keep up their pace year after year? Sooner or later a few things go wrong and these type programs lose a couple. Frankly they scare me to death with their talent and while they may lose a couple more I worry to no end what they can do to the ND defense if they click.<br/> <br/> How about those Halloween uniforms Oregon State wore yesterday? So bad.<br/> <br/> How about Wash St clocking UCLA in LA yesterday. That game really surprised me considering how well the Bruins played in SB. Hangover loss?<br/> <br/> Tye still losing in Washington, man I'm glad he is out of SB.</t>
How many coaches downfalls have to do with loyalty to their assistants? I think it happens a lot. Mack Brown is painfully loyal to Greg Davis, and was pushed very hard to dump Torbush, I think it was one of those things where he was put in a position where one had to go and he deep sixed Torbush but only because of the pressure. Tyrone was loyal to BillyD when asked to replace him, but not so much as to offer him a job at UW. Bobbah Bowden is understandedly loyal to Jeff Bowden, but Jeff is way out of his league. There are lots of examples.
 re: West Virginia Its so hard to guage those Big East teams, because they don't play anyone except each other. The Mountaineers look fast enough on offense to be for real, but I have serious reservations about their defense being able to stop any really good team. I also doubt their ability to pass if they fall behind. I'm not convinced that the three undefeateds of the Big East; West Virginia, Louisville and Rutgers belong in the Top 10 at all! I guess we'll just have to see more... re: USC The Trogs have been devastated by injuries in a year when they were young. That's why they haven't improved as the season went along. At some positions, like fullback and safety, they've completely run out of players! Yesterday was the first day in weeks that they had both Smith and Jarrett in the lineup at WR and that Rey Maualuga has become so flaky and untrustworthy that Carroll has benched him. re: USC assistant coaches There's no question that PC's current staff is nowhere near as good as the one he started with. That staff included people like Norm Chow, Ed Orgeron and Eric Bienemie. If the roof collapses on his operation at the end of this season, he'll clean house or move on IMHO... re: UCLA UCLA is still talking about the Notre Dame game. So is Michigan State. Confucius say: "Man who feel sorry for missing the bus, will get run over by the next bus." re: Pac10 USC, Stanford and Arizona State may be spinning their wheels, but three Pac10 teams have improved dramatically since the beginning of the season: Cal, Oregon State and Wazzoo... re: Wazzoo Its always difficult to analyze Wazzoo, because they don't recruit in the same places as the other schools. They get kids on their roster from places like Idaho. Has USC or UCLA ever had a player from Idaho? If they have, I don't remember it. They take players from small towns that nobody has ever heard of and they take chances on some kids that others won't waste their time with. The only way that you can figure out what they have is to see it on the field and right now they look pretty darn good and they've looked better & better with each game. They're one of those teams that you don't want to play in a non-BCS bowl game, because they're good enough to embarrass someone...
