So there's hope for this Florida recruiting class that is way.... way behind. I suspect UF will be signing up about 8 or 10 players who are 2 to 3 star recruits this year.
Stu, Purdue has received commitments from the Mr. Footballs from Indiana (RB) and Kentucky (QB). That's something.
Feelin a little better about UF recruiting: http://247sports.com/Bolt/Florida-USC-could-close-2015-class-with-a-bang-34446665
All 3 are Fla kids who probably always had UF high on their wish list but didn't want to get involved with Muschamp, now that the situation is settled they can revisit UF and maybe make a commitment. USC is definitely going to finish fast, they are off of probation and with the crushing of Notre Dame and Neb in the bowl game they have some mojo back and will be the old USC recruting machine. If Sark has them back in the top ten and maybe even the playoffs it's back to the Pete Carroll days of recruiting domination on the West Coast by USC.
Dave, The Heisman winner this year was a 3 star recruit with 2 offers. Matt Ryan was a 3 star recruit Santonio Homes was a 3 star recruit Sam Bradford was a 3 star recruit Darelle Revis (known colloquially as Revis Island in the NFL) was a 3 star. Richard Sherman (leader of the Legion of Boom) was a 3 star recruit. Javier Arenas was a 3 star. Those are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head right now. You get the point. Trust your staff.
to give your day an additional boost (and because I have a few free minutes to kill) The 2 star recruits I can remember off the top of my head. -Case Keenum, Mike Iupati, Eric Weddle, Sean Witherspoon, Alex Mack (just ask Browns fans how important that guy is) and a little fella who has done okay by the name of JJ Watt.
Encouraging.... cause that's where we're headed except for possibly 2 or 3 major 5 star players as mentioned.
Let's not forget Notre Dame's preeminent five star player. Carlos Pierre Antoine. Compare him to walk on Joe Schmidt.
Another 2 or 3 star recruit who had an exceptional career was Braylon Edwards. I believe he may hold the school record for yards and TDs.
The thought occurred to me that the Gators do have a hotshot recruit at the Qb position: http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Will-Grier-137369 Rivals #2 dual threat Qb. With a coach that knows offense... and cares about it... maybe this kid will produce.
Hey Corey have you heard of this kid? Don't know where Edgewood Academy is in Alabama, is it around you? Prince 6'8" 245 runs a 4.6 in Tennis shoes...wow.
Terry, Edgewood Academy is a private school in beautiful Wetumpka Alabama. I heard about him but he is supposedly very raw. A lot of athletic ability but not much has been said about him for the obvious reasons.
I'm glad KP stepped in to answer that because I had no idea. I had to do some digging just to find out what level that was, as I had never even heard of the school. (I heard of the streak, not really the school) I dunno dude... tiny little school that I've never heard of and players too good to be true with Nigerian transcripts that magically bump the kid up a grade?? That seems pretty fishy to me. To be honest, I had heard of the school because of their winning streak but I never seen them at any other events (including wrestling, which is odd, because you see everyone at those things). They play AISA football, which is just terrible. They seem to be killing everyone they play, but the teams they play are really bad. I mean that as kindly as I can put it while remaining honest to you. That isn't to say they can't have talent. Some of the best players in the history of Auburn/Alabama have come from tiny little communities that play Class A, AA or AAA football... but even those 3 are way higher than AISA. I'll ask some guys tomorrow as I have to make the rounds and let everyone know my son can compete again even though it looks like he has the plague. I'd bet you that KP's assessment is spot on.
I had 2 nephews that went to Edgewood about 20 years ago. It was/is very small and like a lot of small private schools around here, the sports programs are small budget. Baseball and basketball are usually not too bad but football is too expensive. Anyway, they play other small private schools so the level of competition is questionable, but if this kid is 6'5", 250 and runs a sub 4.6 40, someone will probably take a chance on him anyway.
KP, So what you're saying is that they've kept their academic integrity and not gone all "Madison Academy" on us?
Corey, Actually what I am saying is that they are a small private school in a fairly poor part of Alabama. The folks that attend this school are not connected, not rich, and the school cannot afford to fund the facilities or the equipment or the scholarships to support a big time football program. It should be noted that football powerhouse Prattville (Prattville public school system) is about 10 miles away.
ahh yes, then they are certainly the anti-Madison Academy.. although MA does have nearby Bob Jones and James Clemens.
