Very nice win by the Irish. I thought that the O Line had their best game of the year. Zaire has the legs and arm to be a real threat at QB. That D needs to get healthy and needs depth.

Good win for Notre Dame. I didn't get to see much of it but I followed it online. It looks like the 2 qb system worked today. LSU's defense is not as strong as previous years but I didn't think this would turn into the footrace that it did. It's always good to finish with a win.

I can't believe we won. Ever since the USC loss it's been non stop Kelly hating online and "run the damn ball".

This doesn't make up for the collapse at the end or how poorly we played vs UNC, Navy and Northwestern....but it does give us some positive vibes going into the off seasons and should give us some momentum going into the home stretch with recruting.

    Go Irish.

Oh yeah we need to start a fund to get Carson to all our big games! :)

You guys should give Kelly credit for this - he changed up the offense to play against LSU's "weakness" - a running QB.

BUT... your OL was the key. They did a great job of getting a nice push most of the time.

    Good game to watch.

Bet Corey and "the boy" had a great time.
Wonder if they ran into any drunk LSU fans?
Um... if they ran into ANY LSU fans, you can bet they were drunk, so that was a stupid question.

I never questioned our resilience. I knew from the outset that we had a chance to win if we cleaned up the problems that surfaced late in the season. Obviously, we did that, and we didn't flinch, even after 3 huge plays for TDs, which we overcame with steady, solid OL blocking, ball protection, and a strong effort from a young but talented defense.

Make no mistake. This was a very good win vs. a solid, upper level SEC team. It was a momentum builder going into the winter months.

    :D

LSU had the best defense in the SEC. On the broadcast they showed stats that LSU was #1 in virtually every defensive category; including total team defense...

The Irish seemed to have no problem moving the ball or controlling the clock. On their first drive, they drove the length of the field and used up half the quarter on the clock....

Malik Zaire is the Irish QB. He showed no fear. He attacked his opponent relentlessly. He made no turnovers. He broke down crying at the end: grateful that he had FINALLY been allowed to show what he could do...

Everett Golson is a good backup QB. Barring an injury, however, his days as the starter are over. In the game, on a 3rd down, his response to an LSU blitz was to toss the ball up for grabs. Will Fuller saved him that time, but I can't even imagine Malik doing anything like that. Malik's response to oncoming LBs is to use his 230lb, tank-like body to bulldoze them...

How about 6'8" 320lb RT Mike McGlinchey? Holy cow! I agree that this game was the best performance by the OL all season and one big reason for that was McGlinchey the Monster sealing off the world on the right side. Zaire's quickness was another reason that the OL looked good. He was out of the backfield and creating things so quickly, that even Hegarty couldn't mess up the plays..

Safety Elijah Shumate had the game of his life. He was everywhere...

Nyles Morgan is still lost out there, but his potential is off the chart...

Notre Dame was bigger, faster and more physical than LSU. If these Irish kiddies ever grow up, they could be pretty good.

    Speaking of great young players...
If I never see that Leonard Fournette again it will be too soon. This is his first year of college football and he was easily the best player on either team. The Irish had no answer for him and he was the ONLY thing that kept his team in the game. Without him, this game is a rout...

Corey reported over the phone that Les Miles was the first guy back on the bus. He was just sitting there...grinding his head into the headrest with his eyes closed. Do you think he was in a hurry to get out there?

    What JO'Co said!

BTW, watch that ICON Video that went up a little while a go...makes you feel good. Also please note Folston taking charge on field in the post game celebrations. We need to have great leadership next year if we are to have a great year.

couldn't agree more. Golson's downside is more that his up. Just one other simple thing I noticed on Zaire. When he runs he tucks the ball away.. Why could Golson never do that?<br/>

Did not see this coming. The Irish manhandled the Tiger defensive line throughout. A lot of that had to do with the double TE formations which Kelly hardly used all year. Hello!

I believe Morgan and Schmidt will be formidable next year. Could have the best four man set of LBs in the game.

Zaire is an obvious upgrade. He comes from a very small Catholic Alter HS in Dayton, Ohio. About 800 students. strong football but in the second smallest division in the state. Goes to show you that good is good.

If Day comes back this defense could be spectacular.

Nice win guys. It messed up my bracket worse that it was already messed up but I am glad for my Skybox friends.

Seems Miles gambles may have caught up with him this time.

    But the better team won.

Saw it....I believe we had some other players who stepped up and showed leadership yesterday too and it was a big part of the win.</r>

And therein lies Golson's greatest weakness. He exudes uncertainty. He has had a "deer in the headlights" persona throughout.

Zaire has much more command presence.

I was mildly surprised to see us get the benefit of the review on the fake FG try. That was a redemption of sorts. I also was impressed at how Corey Robinson tried for the two catches he couldn't hold onto. He showed some nice acrobatic moves for a big guy.

I'm happy for Brindza to end his college career on a high note.

Was at work so I missed a good game it seems.

Congrats Irish but from what I hear I'll bet there are some ticked off and hungover LSU fans with regard to the bad review.

Missed calls on the field suck for sure but bad reviews are rare.... and almost inexcusable.

But.... I don't really give a rats ass about LSU so enjoy the bowl win ND.

    :D

    - LSU didn't lose on a bad review. They got their arse kicked.

    - If it wasn't for some trick plays, a super freshman, and a kick-off return, LSU would have been shut out.

    re: Malik Zaire

My favorite Malik play of the day was on Folston's TD. It looked like a naked sweep to the left, (but wait!) the guy out there blocking for him was the QB: Malik Zaire. One of the most difficult skills in this game is blocking in space. Most players can't do it. Most linemen can't do it. You have to maintain your block, without help, and without holding or grabbing. The ability to do this is usually limited to LTs and pulling guards. It's what makes them so valuable. Watch the replay. Watch Malik clear the way (on the goal line!) for Folston. This kid may be the best blocker on the team too!
