    TOK,

Another sign of his WW status is that he is a big fan of daytime TV " judge shows"!!

One good thing about moving to Milwaukee is that they don't sell the Detroit Free Press there.

The above article sums up the general feeling in CFB I believe of Harbaugh to Michigan.

And the article below sums up pretty well what Harbaugh might mean to Urban Meyer, Ohio State and the rest of the Big 10:

Since Michigan is a Public University, I assume the details of his contract are only a freedom of information request away. It should be an interesting read, it had to have been the most 1 sided contract negotiation in history..ok maybe the Versailles Treaty was more 1 sided. But Harbaugh held all the cards, Michigan didn't eve have a deuce in the hole.

I agree Harbaugh had a crushing grip on Michigan's family jewels.

Fail on this hire and the UM program would have remained mired in mediocrity because there was no other WOW factor available.

Hey he still has to get the job done..... but most believe that he will.

the return of the morning star will be something to behold. I wonder if he'll take the same approach that he did at Stanford? He loaded up on linebackers and linemen while hand picking quarterbacks who he felt could become elite. He didn't really chase a lot of skill guys, I suppose he figured they'd come in time.

He didn't bother with Cal the way other coaches rightfully do with a traditional rival. He circled USC who was the king of the college football world. He then set out to destroy them at every turn. A guy with an endless motor like that isn't someone you want chasing your tail.

I'd look for an increase in grad rates, and physicality immediately. Then again, he doesn't have the same limitations he had on him at places like USD and Stanford. He can now go get that big DL who is a borderline qualifier. Yup, it should be something to watch indeed.

    from the above SI article
Can you imagine being this guy's AD? hahaha well, you see Jim is uhhhhh.. well, Jim is real intense... ummm he's a good family man, well, this time around... uhh yeah, I got nothing.

Of all the countless sins Carroll committed, his undoing was simply being in Harbaugh's way.

I know it may sound trite and concievably unfounded but.... is Urban Meyer ready for this?

Harbaugh will target Ohio State like no Michigan coach has since Bo.

The sparks will fly much to the enjoyment of the rest of us.

Just a couple of late thoughts on this thread
Just how big a pain in the ass is Harbaugh that the 49ers are letting him go by "mutual agreement?" The guy has an incredible won-loss record by NFL standards.
Just how attractive is a coaching position that takes an 8 million salary to lure a coach to take it?

Various writers reported that Oakland was willing to spend 12M a year to secure his services so it seems as if the Michigan job was attractive enough for him to forego getting an extra 4 million a year.

Re his leaving SF, this seems similar to the power struggle that took place in Dallas when Jimmie Johnson was fired after winning 2 Super Bowls. Jones acknowledged that Johnson was a great coach but felt that the internal turmoil created by Johnson's abrasive personality outweighed the benefits Johnson brought to the team. My guess is that nearly all Cowboy fans today disagree with Jones' decision and that the SF fans will be similarly unhappy with how things turn out there as time passes.

Breaks up due to ego, personality conflicts, and turf battles seem more common in professional sports than college sports. I don't recall Harbaugh's job ever being in jeopardy at Stanford because of his personality and when he left, those in power at Stanford were sorry to see him leave which makes sense given that in 4 years he turned a 1-11 team at a school with demanding academic requirements into one of the top 5 teams in the nation. I suspect Saban and Urban drive those who work with them to near madness but as long as they keep winning, their employers will retain their services.

The thought that crosses my mind is how many elite, ethical college football coaches can one name who could be described as having genuinely nice, non abrasive personality without an overwhelming ego? Probably Bobby Dodd, Osborne and Ara make that list but it seems that the great majority of the top shelf coaches cause an inordinate amount of sleepless nights and ulcers amongst co workers in the AD department.

While I'm not sure York could really do much to keep Harbaugh from leaving for college, I'm not sure that he would have been "mutually agreeable" to letting him go to another pro team without receiving compensation. For a team as talent poor as Oakland, losing a draft choice or two is not very desirable. And while signing with Oakland might have allowed him to stay in the Bay area, there's some talk that they may move again to LA. And even if they stay you're never sure that you'll continue to coach there, just ask Gruden who we know was traded to Tampa. The Raiders tried to sign Gruden again a while back and he chose to stay with Ditka at ESPN rather than take the job with a team that once was sued by a former coach for his pay.

Report citing M's AD states that H's salary at Michigan is 5 million a year.

Suspect there will be few FOIA requests put in mailboxes today.

I'm not sure if I'm surprised or not, that is a lot of money. I wonder if there are side deals of some sort that result in his total compensation being 8M but "only" 5M/yr coming from Michigan?

Terry, it wouldn't surprise me if the extra income from his weekly TV show and endorsements would raise the total by up to $3 mil. I recall that when Holtz was at ND, I saw his total annual income. If my memory is accurate (not a certainty), his extra income was not much less his salary. That was 20+ years ago, before all the current-day "advances" in compensation structure.

    TOK,

He gets an extra 3M by coaching the hockey team

(Jim is the middle kid, top row. Brother John is on the far right, bottom row. Based on the picture, my guess is that the predictions for his future when he was a wee, very intense lad ranged from future Michigan head coach to future Michigan Unabomber)

We know that schools have contracts with apparel manufacturers for uniforms. The coaches wear items by the same manuf. on the sidelines. Do they get paid for that?
As far as the Michigan coaching job, there is a TV show called Michigan Replay that the head coach appears in every week.
I'm sure that some coaches also receive monies from booster clubs. That like the TV money shouldn't be obtainable in a FOI request.

Too early to buy gear for next season. And the Walmart khakis are a lot cheaper. Plus, the dogs at the dog park will pick on Lloyd if his owner is not wearing appropriate Wisconsin winter gear.
